I have this exact TV! I found mine on the street, in the rain on my way home from work at 2am. I rescued it, dried it, repaired the liquid damage from being left in the rain, and it works beautifully! So I shipped it off the USA from the UK as I am moving there in 2 months. These things are really durable because it also survived the 4600 mile journey
I'm looking for that... good clean. 👌 Work has gotten in the way of me watching these as they come out but I just saw this and I'm glad I did! You finally got a screen fixed! Epic! Can't wait to see what else there is in store.
I have to give you props for your willingness to try. I was very much the same growing up. Now I do it with everything I own and I find working on stuff really interesting. And why not giveaway the Switch that doesn't dock? I doubt anyone is really going to complain about getting a working, albeit handheld only, Switch for free. I know I wouldn't. I suppose the only thing I would say is when working with a reflow airgun, try changing the nozzle over to one with a narrower outlet. You can concentrate more heat into the area you want without affecting other components around it too much. A slight increase in temperature and a little longer application would help to reflow the solder and repair any cracks that may be in the joints. Again, good job on giving it a go. I look forward to more fun projects that you choose to take on.
Love the repair videos, but I noticed you don't use flux when you solder. I think if you used flux you'd get a much better soldered joint with less chance of ending up with a dry joint .
Manufacturer of this TV is Vestel. IF this TV is a smart TV, you can use Vestel service codes for extra features. For example, in the menu screen, press 4725 and it's open service screen
That spot is likely a slight pressure spot. It's is likely an original screen used by Nintendo that was rejected for that reason. Many original parts with defects are sold on the secondary market.
Could the heat from the soldering iron when adding the heat shield have caused the pixel damage on the new screen. Perhaps soldering the heat shield on before fitting the board would have been my approach. Im no expect either though.
Thank you, Sir! I find it interesting how the PCB had another unpopulated HDMI port. Might be able to find an interchangeable one the next model version up?
Vince if you want a new HDMI port on your TV,you can buy a new port and solder it on the siurcate board because there is a drawing of a HDMI port to solder your new HDMI port on
I have a dodgy HDMI port, but mine is opening like a venus fly trap, I've thought about cracking TV open pushing it back together and soldering it shut, I've googled HDMI ports but that only ever turns up PS4 and Xbox One replacements.
Unlikely. Those displays that are available for sale are: 1. Overstock, left over parts after the production of the device it was designed for ended. 2. Rejects, new parts that failed quality control, like Vince's display. 3. Salvaged parts from scrapped devices.
i have the same tv branded as Siera also has the same firmware and the same issue in all but the 1st port, it has 4 hdmi ports, no scart and i never got around to fix it, i have a question: does it get really hot when its working its odd cause i just noticed does yours do the same ? any way thank you for the great content.
Hi, it definitely gets warm as I notice it when I reach around it to turn it off at night. It is probably not as energy efficient as the newer TVs. I wouldn't say my one gets really hot (just nicely warm). Thanks :-)
Hot glue would have been better in cause you ever need to replace the HDMI port, It's going to suck when you need to repace it cause you'll have to cut or chip it off.
I wonder if it would, the older that TV becomes the more difficult to find that same board to replace cause most T.V.s and part production are only about 3-5 years. By that time buying a whole T.V. maybe be cheaper. Cost effective not so sure, time effective maybe?
I guess that is true!.. in that case (to future proof) - it might be worth buying a spare main board now! - there seems to be a couple available doing a google search on the make and model of the tv (Hitachi L42VK04U)... price seems to range from c£18 to £24.90 (make offer) on our favourite auction site!..
Hot glue isn't really strong enough to provide mechanical fixing, it would probably do and be better than nothing, but epoxy provides added strength. Its not /too/ hard to remove most epoxy's - a blast with a heat gun, which you'd need to remove the HDMI socket without risking PCB damage, will soften most epoxy's enough for removal.
Hey Vince can u show what to do if your Nintendo switch doesn't connect to the internet my doesn't work didn't know why so plz help me, I don't have a router I use my phone's internet
Always try if the thing you repair is properly fixed before putting glue on that. If the HDMI still not working well and you have to replace it, removing it will be much more problematic. Greetings
A tip: When you deassemble something and you've fixed it, test it before you put is back together because if it is still not working, you dont have to open it again.
The bulk capacitors in the (relatively high current) power supply can hold a nasty charge for hours after the power is disconnected. That said the only realistic chance of getting zapped is if you touch the hot side of the power board, which was left screwed to the chassis here.
Jason james When I was saying power terminals I was referring to the transformers and that side of the board. But, the best idea probably would be to just let it sit for about a day if you are working on the side with transflrmers. Because as you said it can store for hours the charge, and that if someone also does this they can read this.
I personally dislike the older 2ds. Me and my siblings got one for Christmas when they were released, within an hour of using it mine was dropped onto a soft carpet floor and immediately stopped working, the next day my brother's system wouldn't turn on and my sister couldn't press any of the buttons on hers
The nintendo 2ds white and red is more beautiful than the back and blue one i got a 2ds with black and blue,BUT i am gonna buy the white and red one so no worries for me i think.
The black screen that have nintendo screen is IPS screen and it is the best screen and the white one it is TN screen and it is the worst screen that you can have on a nintendo 2ds it can be seen on new nintendo 3ds and new nintendo 3ds XL easy
I'm in love with these trying to fix videos. You're my favorite channel by now. I need more videos
Ive been wondering how to fix a hdmi for months but was waiting for you to make a video on it . Good job!
I really enjoy these repair videos. Your quickly becoming my favorite channel. Thanks for another great upload!

All the content that you put out is wonderful, keep up the good work!
Brilliant keep the goodness coming, fast becoming my favourite RUclips channel
Useful for those people with this problem(my friend). A good yt channel for game systems

I love how you mark the parts, great video
Hi Vince Keep up the good work👍
Manufacturer of this TV is Vestel. IF this TV is a smart TV, you can use Vestel service codes for extra features. For example, in the menu screen, press 4725 and it's open service screen
Great work again. I love fixing things as well.
That spot is likely a slight pressure spot. It's is likely an original screen used by Nintendo that was rejected for that reason. Many original parts with defects are sold on the secondary market.
Great Work Vince.
I've got a suggestion for a Fix it video.
You could repair an RC car
Just a general tip the Wick acts like a heatsink if you leave it on the roll, better to cut a small length and use some tweezers :)
Thanks for the tip :-)
Could the heat from the soldering iron when adding the heat shield have caused the pixel damage on the new screen. Perhaps soldering the heat shield on before fitting the board would have been my approach. Im no expect either though.
A couple of good fixes there.
You should try to transfer any games from the broken 2ds xl to that 2ds, love your videos
Thank you, Sir!
I find it interesting how the PCB had another unpopulated HDMI port.
Might be able to find an interchangeable one the next model version up?
Just Found ur channel Love The fix it stuff and that soothing UK voice LUL
Vince if you want a new HDMI port on your TV,you can buy a new port and solder it on the siurcate board because there is a drawing of a HDMI port to solder your new HDMI port on
Late reply but you saw the tv only supported 2 hdmis meaning the hdmi driver chip only supports 2 hdmi ports!
i love your fixing videos so please do more of them
I love these fixing vids
OMG this video is sooo GOOD 😍
I have a dodgy HDMI port, but mine is opening like a venus fly trap, I've thought about cracking TV open pushing it back together and soldering it shut, I've googled HDMI ports but that only ever turns up PS4 and Xbox One replacements.
Another great video, keep it up m8.
Great video as always please do loads more of fixing stuff videos
Love it when its a through hole component that's stopped working. So much easier to fix than those surface mount buggers :D
I always wonder whenever your handling elec bolt power isnt it a good idea to put on elec gloves to provent getting stock?
Suggestion: Can You Do 3DS next?
The 2Ds and 3Ds are basically the same
slightly different hardware. The boards aren't really the same at all
do u need to fix one if so whts wrong with it
I love these videos keep on doing these :D
Hi mate loving the vids but do you actually sell any of these and if yes how can i find them ? The link to youre ebay shop doesnt work
good ole Rachel Riley. Really the only reason to watch Countdown.
Apart from avoiding the capacitors, are there other protective measures you could have taken to prevent contact with high voltage electricity ?
I hope you've sorted out that cable management by now! It's nearly as bad as mine :)
Nice job on the tv bro.
Is there a manufacturer that makes IPS displays for a 2DS? Great video mate.
Unlikely. Those displays that are available for sale are:
1. Overstock, left over parts after the production of the device it was designed for ended.
2. Rejects, new parts that failed quality control, like Vince's display.
3. Salvaged parts from scrapped devices.
Good old countdown!!
2 videos, twice the views, more organization, no?
good video anyway
Doctor DOOF the lack of organization is why I love this channel so much. And the accent it quite pleasant.
A.James Reilly I'm saying I watch partially because his voice is soothing to me. Similar to how a lot of people like Bob Ross's voice.
@A.James Reilly I was wondering if that was just me.
is there a way to replace the analogue control stick on the 2ds to have more of a grip?
19:44 Nintendo 2ds stylus unboxing! 😮😮😮
I have the same white 2DS with an original nintendo screen and mine has that brighter line of pixels too
i have the same tv branded as Siera also has the same firmware and the same issue in all but the 1st port, it has 4 hdmi ports, no scart and i never got around to fix it, i have a question: does it get really hot when its working its odd cause i just noticed does yours do the same ? any way thank you for the great content.

do you perhaps know which power brick is the right one for a pal gamecube? and if there any alternatives?
great work pal.
Love the video 🤙
Replacement screen looks sharper
I like your accent
My mate vince is that the switch over there?
2:20 I tried wobbling my number 2's - not a pretty sight.
How many things did you buy. Also switchbru video soon?
Hot glue would have been better in cause you ever need to replace the HDMI port, It's going to suck when you need to repace it cause you'll have to cut or chip it off.
at that time... it might be more cost and time effective just to swap the boards out...
I wonder if it would, the older that TV becomes the more difficult to find that same board to replace cause most T.V.s and part production are only about 3-5 years. By that time buying a whole T.V. maybe be cheaper. Cost effective not so sure, time effective maybe?

Do you think you can do a video on the ps4 white light of death?
Useful video
My mate vince i have a 3ds that works good but the headphone jack is broken can you make a video on how to fix it I don't have screwdrivers for it
Always try if the thing you repair is properly fixed before putting glue on that. If the HDMI still not working well and you have to replace it, removing it will be much more problematic. Greetings
the mettle piece is either a ground or shield maybe both
A tip: When you deassemble something and you've fixed it, test it before you put is back together because if it is still not working, you dont have to open it again.
What is the external input for
dose that tv has an cable-card slot
What screw driver do you use for the 2ds and 3ds?
Wow I love your videos my chum Vincent
These videos are fun!
Buy more faulty 3DS systems.
Awesome! 2 for 2 this time.
how does one person have so many connector issues?
If you were worried about being eletricuted you could just disconnect the power terminals(the board with the transformers)
The bulk capacitors in the (relatively high current) power supply can hold a nasty charge for hours after the power is disconnected. That said the only realistic chance of getting zapped is if you touch the hot side of the power board, which was left screwed to the chassis here.

awesome Job :) Weolol done!
You should get an HDMI switcher, i use one branded Portta
Hdmi 2 is a little bit pushed out of the TV
Sense you fixed it will you resell?
Is that dead rising 4 music!?
I personally dislike the older 2ds. Me and my siblings got one for Christmas when they were released, within an hour of using it mine was dropped onto a soft carpet floor and immediately stopped working, the next day my brother's system wouldn't turn on and my sister couldn't press any of the buttons on hers
OI BRUV nice job on the tv
Much appreciated try to.... Series.. thanks.
If i sent you a non charging 2ds board would you want to fix it? You can keep it. Its hackable too.
The nintendo 2ds white and red is more beautiful than the back and blue one i got a 2ds with black and blue,BUT i am gonna buy the white and red one so no worries for me i think.
great video..ty.
I have fixed a few crt TV's and yea pressing the power button a couple times drain's the power
Thank you!,,
zgskskajsuuuh
do you perhaps know how to reball a ps3?
add a third hdmi port in the third slot
The black screen that have nintendo screen is IPS screen and it is the best screen and the white one it is TN screen and it is the worst screen that you can have on a nintendo 2ds it can be seen on new nintendo 3ds and new nintendo 3ds XL easy
Be grateful! You have Scart on your TVs. Us Americans don't... 😭
You soldered on top of the screen, this may be the cause of your bright line imperfection.
Oh yeah. Very true. I didn't think of that. I should have taken out the main board to solder it. Thanks for sharing :-)
epoxy? I thought you'd use hot glue for that. Btw, I would at least have tested a HDMI cable, if it sticks in fine BEFORE I attempt to put glue on it!
I bought a 2DS on ebay and it was in good condition
The tv has a spot for another hdmi port
16:03
Here
I have the exact same problem with my bedroom tv
you need to always prime your tip on your iron. that will stop u from scorching everything..
Nice vid, you not upgrading to a 4k tv?
Hey
Had the same problem with my HDMI on my ps3
How the hell do people damage stuff so badly
For parts, it is always what you get is what you pay. Cheaper 3rd party ones are inferior in quality than genuine ones, but of course you pay less.
