He should've taken it apart from the jump. It's not like the seller didn't try pulling it out. Yanking it out by force isn't ever going to be a good idea.
Nice vince. Couple of months ago I picked up a wii at a flee market with power and sensor only for $15. It had a rattle. Took it home, disassembled it before plugging it in because something was loose in it. And it turned out to be .11 cents and dime and a penny lol. Everything looked pretty clean so plugged it in and it worked with no issues. So now I own 2 wii consoles.
For all your great videos and fixes I can't believe you're just trying to yank out the discs at the beginning and didn't go straight to dismantle. Very weird TBH!!! Love you're channel anyways..keep up the great work!!!
the mod ship is a 12f683 microcontroller made by microchip and used commonly in consoles like the wii U PS1 and PS2 it basically tricks the console into thinking the cd inside is genuine usually consoles have at the beginning of every game "special code" or signature that you cannot copy from original games or if you copy that code from the original cd to a blank cd it will get it wrong !!! that microcontroller mimics that bit of "code " or signature and injects it directly to the data lines from the drive to the cpu the result is the cpu receives "genuine " signature from the drive, witch in reality put by the chip ,assumes its the real thing and decides to play the game !! at 53:50 tooth can see the missing tooth on the second pin in the big plastic rail !!! if youve just seen it you could've just glued it back in place or maybe that's what's jamming it
That ic does just a wee bit more than stated above This is what is does: Automatic detection of the region, for the regionfree fix (the first time an working Wii game is used) Run gamecube originals Run gamecube backups Partial regionfree support for gamecube games (originals and backups) Run Wii originals Run Wii backups Partial regionfree support for Wii games (backups only) (must be patched to same region as Wii) Support for DMS, D2A and D2B!! configurable Speedfix Support for alle media: DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW Configuration DVD for setting up your region Support for 12F629, 12F675 and 12F683 chips (the installation for the 12F683 is the same as the 12F629) Source for above wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/WiiFree
For the Wii, drive chips are also REALLY old hacks. Like, well at the start of the life. About 12 months in, we got Twilight Princess savegame hack, IOS hacks, and then piracy over USB mass storage / SD card. Didn't think there'd still be a Wii with one of these in existence...
that chip have the code of the wiikey chip i made many installations in the past using a 20 cents pic programming wiikey code in it and installing in wii, i cannot see the dvd drive version in you video. but for what i see must be the version (dont remember anymore the name) where you need to make hole in the dvd chip itself to solder the wires.
While I don't need to take my Wii a part, your videos helped me not be scared to take my systems apart. My Vita battery was nackered. I decided to watch a few videos and dove in and took care of it. 20 minutes later my Vita had a new lease on life. Thank you friend.
How do you fit 2 disks inside one system??? Wait, let me say that in an other way..... WHY WOULD YOU EVEN PUT MORE THAN ONE DISK IN IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!??!?!?!?
Seems like the under side was a dodgy copy of toy story, and the top one was an original mario kart game, someone was trying to get pass through DRM protection on the console
Oof the hurt you could hear the wii disc tray gears shredding and Vince still continues to force the discs no hate Vince I love your channel and this series
It's not the scratches on the shiny side that are the problem with Mario Kart. You can see that there are huge gashes on the label side, which surely killed any chance of that disc ever working again. Interesting mod to get the drive working though. Gotta love that ingenuity.
No matter what anyone says Vince, at least you tried. You certainly deserve 10 out of 10 for effort 👍🏼 Also, old Printers are chock full of plastic cogs etc. Maybe see if you can pick up an old Printer for free and take it to bits? They are often given away and you might get lucky?
If anything it's possible the modchip is meant to help ripping the disc to an external drive, the Wii can even with 4.3 firmware still be softmodded with a SD-card and an external HDD. From what can be seen it's also Gamecube compatible, so it's basically "2-in1" console.
Keep it up! Finally a real world “try to fix it” with real world outcomes. It either works or it doesn’t. Not like other channels where EVERYTHING magically works again...in just 2 minutes with intro.
Nintendo fan like you. Enjoyed your efforts. I like fixing things too. Googled around and found that broken gear is a 'double reduction' gear. Thanks for the new glue tips too.
Glad you got it working, reminds me a little bit of my first car, it cost me next to nothing, but I used it to learn (this was when cars broke down and you could fix it with a pair of tights). Every part of it broke, and my best botch job was the horn fix I managed for its mot.
Vince mate. I have an aromatic car but I would like to convert it to a manual gear shift. I think you are the best man for this job. Wire will be provided . My kids and I love your channel. Thanks.
Not only is Mario Kart Wii a good game, but despite the circumstances of Nintendo's servers for the Wii getting shut down and the game being 10 years old on a relatively underpowered console, Mario Kart Wii still has a very strong community (all you need is so basic homebrew knowledge). I can see why it would be expensive
Well, even if the first part of the video was pure pain to watch, I gotta appreciate the tenacity and creativeness of your solution for the disk drive. You tried damn hard and it was a pretty good video, probably could do with some editing while you were trying to figure stuff out, but was an interesting watch
I don't know if initially if he was more interested in the disc than the console he constantly kept saying how valuable the Mario Kart disc would be. When you hear the mechanism crunching you should immediately pull the power plug out. You probably could have saved the machine and yourself a lot of time just taking it apart in the first place. If you really don't know what you're doing it's always best to take it apart so you can see what's going on
You may push the working gear into a kind of modelling mass. Let the mass get hard, pull the good gear out, and fill it up with epoxy resin. let it get dry. Flat out tha backside and push it into the faulty drive again. it may will work out ;)
Vince should have used his brain instead of his muscles to get those discs out. He broke the Wii and the Mario Kart disc. Just watching him trying to force the discs out while the wii is crying "STOPPPPP!!!!" is pretty sad. You can hear the gears breaking. He was going to open it up to clean it anyways, but he wanted to be lazy and instead made it more work for him at the end.
Yep. He probably did it for the long play time but instead of it being a 10 minute video of removing the face plate it got dragged out with the broken gear problem.
I’m all for criticism, but there’s a difference between criticizing a person’s actions and assuming you know why they did those actions. He clearly has no idea what he’s doing, as he constantly says. My bet is that he just wasn’t thinking, but what do I know. He may have done it on purpose, but I think there’s a far bette explanation. Long videos don’t get as much play time anyways, so to purposefully drag out a video for this long would more than likely lose people’s attention than anything else.
damn watching these old video's shows how far you have come in these 2 years. that first 10 mins or so was torture. JUST TAKE IT APART lol :P:P keep up the good work
Jonny Biggs hi can you help me with my old wii, it wont turn on, first nothing at all, but after few attemps it has red light, but when i turn it on it doesnt turn green, it turns black again and back to red :( do you know what should i do? Thanks
I've done impressions of smaller things like gears into and used baking soda (not powder)/super glue mix to effectively pour/cast pretty good copies (usually requiring some cleanup around edges, and drilling out the center hole, tho, but not a huge deal). Otherwise I second finding a local makerspace that either has a similar gear or could print one for you. Aligning yourself with such a place could be a great source of additional information and expertise as well as oddball parts. :)
If this happens to anybody out there. DO NOT try to pull the 2 disks out of the front. Just take the machine apart. Too much damage could occur trying to force the disks out.
That MarioKart disk is damaged on the data side. The label side of the disk was scratched, which is the side that holds all the data. The silver side of the disk (where it reads the data) can be scratched badly and back and still run since the plastic there is fairly thick.
Great videos. Watched your sega gamegear attempt to fix. Dont listen to the haters, your videos are good because even if you don't fix the device you end up posting the video to show what not to do. I've learned through your videos and sometimes done things i regret or been to excited and broken plastic molding etc. My point I'm trying to make is that you act on camera how most of us are off. You don't cut mistakes out which help us all out. Great chanel
Excellent comment. I've watched a lot of Vince's videos and recently looking at some of his older content that I've missed. You hit the.nail on the head with those words. Yes, we can easily shout at the screen what to do or not to do, but mistakes are often how we learn. We're all human and nobody is perfect. It's been great seeing how Vince has improved over the years. I love fault finding, tinkering and repairing and I love following his journey. Something I can totally relate to and learn along the way. Keep the content coming Vince.
The mod-chip on the disk drive might be a region-free chip. Granted, there's really no reason why you need a mod-chip now, considering it is so easy to softmod a Wii. Also, I love your workaround for disc drive at the end. If you have access to a 3D printer, you should be able to recreate the broken gear. If I lived in the UK, I would totally be willing to make and ship one, however shipping from the US is going to be ridiculous considering Wii disc drives aren't that much.
It might not get better than that ;-)) - This video was untypical for you. Really hurting the first minutes and a weird wire at the end ;-). I love your videos, Vince, you are a hero! So inspiring and encouraging :-)). Thank you and keep on the good work!
You could soft mod the wii to play backups on it. Then you wouldn't need the drive. Ideally, just soft mod it then attach an external hdd to it and play backups and also install emulators and even a media player. You just use the faulty drive to copy the disk to hdd. Give it a go, you'll be surprised how easy it is.
This is where u wish u had a 3D printer lol .Brilliant vid, loving these troubleshoot/repairs where u don't know what the issue is at first, makes really interesting watching.
I would want to keep the pull loop Wii, just to test that mod chip. That Toy Story Disc might be a second copy of mania. I also didn't see any homebrew (you would need software that could actually play a DVD). This makes me think the Toy Story DVD was a game and not a movie.
Thanks for not cutting the beginning of “The Blue Danube” off I hate when people do that. I have to take one apart too, but I’m waiting on a nice set of tools I ordered that has all the bits for every game system. It was my wife’s but it didn’t know it had quite working and I’m getting a signal but the screen is fuzzy. I bought it for my wife, but unfortunately she passed away in August of 2020. But I want to restore it myself and keep it either way.
Agreed, I use my Wii primarily as a retro games console now, really easy to mod and stick emulators/roms on it. A flash drive with ISOs is also really easy to setup on it too, haven't used the disc drive on my Wii in years.
Yeah, I've seen a few Wii modding tutorial videos that make the process WAY more complicated than it needs to be. If I find the video I used which made the process pretty simple I'll post it here.
crossxfuse you can watch Tech james complete guide on modding a wii. its just easy, just connect it to the internet and change the wpa2 depending on your router settings. and if youll get stuck on the letterbomb, update your wii software to the latest again.
i find it neet too wach you work . i love my electronics and still am finding ideas of what too look for thanks too you . keep up the good work and try too keep learning all you can.
you can mod wii's really, really easily, so even if the drive is nadgered, you've still got yourself a very neat little toy if you check out homebrew, not to mention you can play backups if you spend a little bit of time getting it working. If it's all down to that one gear, you should be able to get somebody to 3d print it anyhow, or replace that gear if you can get a really cheap busted-ass wii from the 'net.
of keeping it on one you choose two which tells me you are unable to think for more then 1 second so now your speech is reduced to 3 words, good to see what the english language has come to :(
cliffopoo11 it’s a joke everyone says that these days 😀 I’m was really tired of people saying that, but now I realized how stupid that was for me to say. Sorry! Have a nice day / night 😃
Love your videos vince, the modchip allows you to play copied discs, usually from any region,as others have said get a gear 3d printed,i reckon the toy story dvd that was stuck in it was probrably a back-up game rather than the movie
Love the channel and videos, Just a thought, I wonder if you could make a mold using the good cog into something like plasticine then use epoxy to basically make a new cog?
take the working cog out of the drive and take it to someone with a 3d printer and some 3d imaging software. I'm sure they could 3d print a new cog to size. as for the disc a rebuffing machine might help.
Yeah the tape trick should work! That's a great idea bro. You probably went to the hardware store and specifically bought those 2 rolls just to use to try and get the disc out. Spending more on tape than the broken Wii is even worth in the first place. You should have been involved in space shuttle engineering.
You know, you could cast your own gear from silicone and resin? It's super easy and cheap to do AND it's amazing fun! That would solve your problem garunteed! No pullstrings?? Good video though!
Hah, it's so cool to find modchips in used consoles sometimes. This Wii must have been one of the launch ones, they had drives that went faulty pretty easy, and how soon software mods were made, making this hardware mod not the best choice. That chip looks like it just spams the lockout chip with the data that legitimate discs would haves. This would allow you to start any game of any region, or even burned games. I guess that DVD-R of Toy Story that was in it is a burned game, which may still be working. Unfortunately that SD card has been wiped clear, as well as anything that was on the wii, it looks like they did a factory reset, which also erases the SD card. I absolutely love the cable to get it working though haha, happy for another successful repair !!
If the disc is scratched on the underside check up if you can find any place that can grind the disc. As long as the upper part is not damaged, it may help :)
Vince you could try measuring the gear, and making a 3D model of it. After that you can send it to some 3d printing company, or a pal of yours who has a 3D printer. That would be the cheapest way to fix it. You could also buy a 3D printer yourself.
certain models you had to cut into the plastic package of that chip cause they cut the pins to stop the wiikey modchiping i had to do the same to mine lol over 10 years ago wow long time and yeah homebrew launcher bootmii is on that sd card gears you can make molds and use scrap ABS and acetone make a slurry and pour make 2 halfs glue i had to make a slider part inside a analog slider on a mobile device that way what you did you should have filed it level inbetween the 2 good teeth then used a file or xacto knife and reform/sculpt the new
also, about dvds, any wii can play DVDs using dvdx, mplayer-dvdx or even WiiMC, no need for physical mods to the drive. The only thing you might need a modchip for is playing physical disc backups or out-of-region discs from the system menu directly. (you can read a PAL disc in an NTSC console and back it up using a dedicated dumper or a USB loader, and then play said backup you dumped over USB just fine)
You could try making a mold of the good gear with a mold making kit from a hobby shop. or using modeling clay for the gear and baking soda superglue for the copy.
A tip you could try to fix the broken gear using the dremel is to cut the gears in two. So you seperate the small gear that is attached to the larger gear. That may give your dremel some more room to make those fine cuts and then just super glue the two gears together again.
you actually can buy spare gears but if i count right... this amount of tooth are not very common... 11 to 27 not sure about the dimensions ... just stop trying to fix the broken... maybe its easier to make a copy of the good one. make a negative fill it with the UV-glue and let it harden unter the sun... it may work...
Guess the Mario Kart CD worked with no need to pull the wire it just move a little bit and the CD is in place!! And you are awesome in fixing things may be faults will not fixed but at least you do all you can 👌
I repaired a Super Smash Bros Melee disc once and it felt so great to get such a valuable game working! Sold it for $80 on eBay! (Paid $38 for a lot of 40 games and it was in it) Wish they were worth that much now!
The top half of the wheel does not go down, it is magnetic and hanging with a spring around its axle, between the wheel and its back plate. When the drive wheel lift up through the CD Center, the hanging wheel magnetizes to the axle of the drive wheel, capping it and helping the CD stay flat while rotating, due to its width and weight, and spring loading behind it...
I don't think i've shouted 'just take it apart' more in my whole life.
i know right. Even i was shouting "just take the fucking lid off"!
I KNOW I was yelling at my screen to just take it apart and not mess with it 🤦🏻♀️
Me too 😮💨
Me too!
It was nails down a chalk board for me, lol
Watching that first 15 minutes was like torture. Clearly you just needed to jam in a FOURTH disc, then it would've REALLY been fixed.
Ben's Boring Videos I like Vince. I do, but sometimes the things this man does... oh lord
He should've taken it apart from the jump. It's not like the seller didn't try pulling it out. Yanking it out by force isn't ever going to be a good idea.
same to me
Personally, I enjoyed the struggle.
he should have tried a fifth disc ;-)
Nice vince.
Couple of months ago I picked up a wii at a flee market with power and sensor only for $15. It had a rattle.

Yeah he’s very knowledgable so that surprised me but as @CabinDoor said it had to be intentional in the interest of the video
the mod ship is a 12f683 microcontroller made by microchip and used commonly in consoles like the wii U PS1 and PS2
it basically tricks the console into thinking the cd inside is genuine
usually consoles have at the beginning of every game "special code" or signature that you cannot copy from original games or if you copy that code from the original cd to a blank cd it will get it wrong !!!
that microcontroller mimics that bit of "code " or signature and injects it directly to the data lines from the drive to the cpu the result is the cpu receives "genuine " signature from the drive, witch in reality put by the chip ,assumes its the real thing and decides to play the game !!
at 53:50 tooth can see the missing tooth on the second pin in the big plastic rail !!! if youve just seen it you could've just glued it back in place or maybe that's what's jamming it
Thanks for the detailed information. I and others reading this will understand what the microcontroller does now. Thanks for posting :-)
That ic does just a wee bit more than stated above
This is what is does:
Automatic detection of the region, for the regionfree fix (the first time an working Wii game is used)
Run gamecube originals
Run gamecube backups
Partial regionfree support for gamecube games (originals and backups)
Run Wii originals
Run Wii backups
Partial regionfree support for Wii games (backups only) (must be patched to same region as Wii)
Support for DMS, D2A and D2B!!
configurable Speedfix
Support for alle media: DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW
Configuration DVD for setting up your region
Support for 12F629, 12F675 and 12F683 chips (the installation for the 12F683 is the same as the 12F629)

Wii's are so easy to mod using an SD card turn it into an awesome emulator machine
He has a wii u if he mods that he can play Gamecube, Wii, Wii u, and emulators. Punch composite video in the face.
Brownie brown that is true but Wii u is much harder to mod
Someone already did the true hard work. We simply have to survive the long list of instructions. Doubt People like Vince would fail.
be sure to check out the nintendo homebrew discord! There are some lovely people there willing to walk you through your wii u homebrew.
DarkSpawn but my homebrew isn't working so...
What a crappy way to ship a console , just throw everything in a box without any bubble wrap or anything so everything gets destroyed inside
Gamer Guys stop asking everyone to subscribe you 3 year old
Wiis are pretty durable
They should mention the shipping is defective too....lol
@@eddystudios3242 hmm. Now where has he asked to subscribe?

Sure that would be possible

Yeah nah, sorry Vince

Jonny Biggs hi can you help me with my old wii, it wont turn on, first nothing at all, but after few attemps it has red light, but when i turn it on it doesnt turn green, it turns black again and back to red :( do you know what should i do? Thanks
Not worth the trouble. Wiis are ridiculously hard to work on and cheap enough to buy to easily replace.
everybody is a critic. i like the effort you put in to figure out the problem. most would just throw out. "its not my job to fix it" lol
idk but maybe theese gears are also in normal DVD drives? Maybe in an old IDE/SATA one?
I've done impressions of smaller things like gears into and used baking soda (not powder)/super glue mix to effectively pour/cast pretty good copies (usually requiring some cleanup around edges, and drilling out the center hole, tho, but not a huge deal).
When Vince was yanking the disc out of the drive the Wii sounded like it was crying and screaming, felt really disturbing watching that
Was just scrolling for a video to watch from you great video keep up the good work 👍👍👍📺📱
lol lol a
i think the first bit of the video shaved 20 years off my life. im surprised the disc drive tried to work at all after that abuse, love ya vince
I sure love "faulty wii with music"
Same
same
I like the mii music
Brute force should always be a last resort when it comes to electronics and moving parts. I hope you learned from this experience.
it's just a stupid wii... as far as i care a hammer would suffice... and sometimes it's funny to see Vince make more problems for himself :)
@@ExecutorQ3 i get your point, but he purchased this Wii to try to fix it. Reading my comment years later, I do realize how petty it sounds.
My favourite channel! Keep them coming
You can still mod the wii to play backups
Yeah softmod it is really easy now to play backups from an external hard drive.. I have about 300 games on mine,
Jamesthecool 25 Wdym backup games
Heart & Crafts damn thats a lot of games
I would want to keep the pull loop Wii, just to test that mod chip. That Toy Story Disc might be a second copy of mania. I also didn't see any homebrew (you would need software that could actually play a DVD). This makes me think the Toy Story DVD was a game and not a movie.
"Oh hold on a minute..... I might just be able to pull them out, using a bit of force"
Nice job..been watching uour channel for a amonth now..and this is the best repair working you have done..cheers
Toy Story Mania is in 3D if you have the right glasses
Thats why it was always in red and blue...
Best series on RUclips!!!!
Maeve Butler agreed
Maeve Butler especially if you like to see stuff ruined in a long winded way.
I knew that the chance of the wii being modded somehow was very high when I saw that DVD-r of toy story.
the funny thing is if your disc tray breaks just mod your console
Agreed, I use my Wii primarily as a retro games console now, really easy to mod and stick emulators/roms on it. A flash drive with ISOs is also really easy to setup on it too, haven't used the disc drive on my Wii in years.
I've tried to mod it before but its too complicated for me. I got far into the process but then messed up and got tired of trying
Yeah, I've seen a few Wii modding tutorial videos that make the process WAY more complicated than it needs to be. If I find the video I used which made the process pretty simple I'll post it here.
Crossxfuse - This guide is a pretty good one: ruclips.net/video/_OZxffQMeJE/видео.html
crossxfuse you can watch Tech james complete guide on modding a wii. its just easy, just connect it to the internet and change the wpa2 depending on your router settings. and if youll get stuck on the letterbomb, update your wii software to the latest again.
Well done on fixing it, Vince 👍 who knows maybe someone will dig a noose hanging from their console
You didn't damage it. When the previous owner stuck two discs inside, they most likely broke the motor that ejects/inserts the disc into the drive.
i find it neet too wach you work . i love my electronics and still am finding ideas of what too look for thanks too you . keep up the good work and try too keep learning all you can.
you can mod wii's really, really easily, so even if the drive is nadgered, you've still got yourself a very neat little toy if you check out homebrew, not to mention you can play backups if you spend a little bit of time getting it working. If it's all down to that one gear, you should be able to get somebody to 3d print it anyhow, or replace that gear if you can get a really cheap busted-ass wii from the 'net.
U did good. U tried all day but in the end it works, so good job.
I must've yelled "JUST TAKE IT APART ALREADY" like 74 times.
Absolutly same here ;-)
Ik i did its common since disk stuck take the system apart tht made me mad when he started yanking the disk.... Then it was mario out of all games
+My Mate VINCE If you haven't found out yet, the mod chip at 42:38 is just to play games from other regions.
there is something oddly satisfying about this love it
you would look cooler if you tried to insult me all in one post instead
of keeping it on one you choose two which tells me you are unable to think for more then 1 second so now your speech is reduced to 3 words, good to see what the english language has come to :(
cliffopoo11 it’s a joke everyone says that these days 😀
I’m was really tired of people saying that, but now I realized how stupid that was for me to say. Sorry! Have a nice day / night 😃
it is satisfying af though :)
cliffopoo11 I know, because my Wii has a broken disc drive and it’s been that way for 6 years
Love your videos vince, the modchip allows you to play copied discs, usually from any region,as others have said get a gear 3d printed,i reckon the toy story dvd that was stuck in it was probrably a back-up game rather than the movie
Love the channel and videos, Just a thought, I wonder if you could make a mold using the good cog into something like plasticine then use epoxy to basically make a new cog?
you can probably measure the cog and buy it anyway, you just won't find it on ebay under "wii gear", but you can probably find it under " gear"
take the working cog out of the drive and take it to someone with a 3d printer and some 3d imaging software. I'm sure they could 3d print a new cog to size. as for the disc a rebuffing machine might help.
Who needs watch movies when you can watch this. Great work! 😌
I could literally throw on one of your videos and your voice could lull me to sleep lol
Not sure how I ended up here... but this video is really good!
This poor wii ;v; At least you've learned from this experience!!
I like your fixing brockcin game control and music you playing in the background while you take the game control apart
try to find local or online place that do 3d printing, and send them gear from working one so the can make u duplicate
snowballs159 facts
Zack Burkhart mind sending a link for Vince? Would maybe help getting a part 2 in this.
Cannè only Vincent know the size.
Thanks so much for the comments and really helpful information :-)
Get discs out - homebrew it - put on tons of emulators and roms/isos - job done.
no, no emulators, no isos and roms, get games that you can play online and add wiimmfi
If the disc is scratched on the underside check up if you can find any place that can grind the disc. As long as the upper part is not damaged, it may help :)
Vince LOVE THE LONG VIDEOS PLEASE DO MORE PLEASE THANK YOU 😊
Possibly that chip bypasses region lock and that COD disc is NTSC?
Vince you could try measuring the gear, and making a 3D model of it. After that you can send it to some 3d printing company, or a pal of yours who has a 3D printer. That would be the cheapest way to fix it. You could also buy a 3D printer yourself.
i don't know why i like ur video! best white noise for me!
certain models you had to cut into the plastic package of that chip cause they cut the pins to stop the wiikey modchiping
i had to do the same to mine lol over 10 years ago wow long time
and yeah homebrew launcher bootmii is on that sd card
gears you can make molds and use scrap ABS and acetone make a slurry and pour make 2 halfs glue
i had to make a slider part inside a analog slider on a mobile device that way
what you did you should have filed it level inbetween the 2 good teeth then used a file or xacto knife and reform/sculpt the new
also, about dvds, any wii can play DVDs using dvdx, mplayer-dvdx or even WiiMC, no need for physical mods to the drive.
And you are awesome in fixing things may be faults will not fixed but at least you do all you can 👌
could you not get a new cog 3d printed using the cog off your working model
Just as project I wonder if you could make a mold of the good gear, in say modeling clay or playdoh and cast it in epoxy?
Why not invest in a 3d printer and easily print these parts out and perhaps any broken parts you may come across in the future.
I repaired a Super Smash Bros Melee disc once and it felt so great to get such a valuable game working! Sold it for $80 on eBay! (Paid $38 for a lot of 40 games and it was in it) Wish they were worth that much now!
Wait why would you put 2 disks in a console in the first place I mean ???
The top half of the wheel does not go down, it is magnetic and hanging with a spring around its axle, between the wheel and its back plate. When the drive wheel lift up through the CD Center, the hanging wheel magnetizes to the axle of the drive wheel, capping it and helping the CD stay flat while rotating, due to its width and weight, and spring loading behind it...
Little did he know, he forgot to turn his camera off and was playing spongebob for almost 2 hours
at 1:17:56 you didnt pull the string... how come its working that time?
