  • Otranto is a coastal town in southern Italy’s Puglia region. It’s home to the 15th-century Aragonese Castle and 11th-century Otranto Cathedral, with a rose window and ornate mosaic flooring. Otranto has a beautiful harbour, and crystal clear swimming waters. It's a delightful place to get lost in the alleway streets with lots to see and do but with a very relaxed pace of life. Many Italian's pick Otranto and the Puglia region for their summer holidays.

    A day I will pass in Otranto the rest of my life... I love this place, I have friends in.
    Nevertheless I was born in Caserta and lived in Anagni and now in Ferentino (more ancient towns than Rome) I dream Otranto.

    Looking at the picturesque town, with the amazing blue sky, and wonderful blue water, especially at this time, looks absolutely fantastic.

    Beautiful video. For the record: Otranto is pronounced oh-trahn-toh, with accent on the first oh. And the other city is called OSTUNI, not OSTRUNI. For all the people who will google it and find nothing.

      Thank you for the corrections. We visited both I think on the same day and I kept getting muddled up with the names. I'm always bad with the pronunciations so thanks for mentioning it. :)

    If you are an English speaker, you should also mention Horace Walpole and his Gothic novel, _The Castle of Otranto_.

    New Subscriber. Just found your channel after search for Puglia. Really like the style of your videos. Very informative and well shot. Do have a question for you - if you had to choose a holiday home between Otranto, Monopoli or Gallipoli, which would you select? You seem very honest in your videos so thought I'd ask!

      Hello thanks for joining us and for the nice comment. I think out of the 3 probably somewhere around Gallipoli. Really liked the fact you are on the coast with a vibrant old town that has good food and drink. It's also not far from Leece which was a personal favourite for us. If you are not fussed about the coast and prefer a bustling town then Leece would be my pick.

    Hi!I'm a new subscriber.I really like the way you film your videos.Between Otranto and Gallipoli in terms of beaches,prices and food,what would you reccomend?Me and my family will visit Italy this July and we want to decide to book a trip for one of the two cities.

    • @MemorySeekers
      @MemorySeekers  2 года назад +1

      Hello welcome between the two we preferred Gallipoli but there is not much in it. The prices will be similar, but I think Gallipoli has more choices for restaurants and we just liked the feel of the place more.
      Have a wonderful time whichever you decide, you cannot go far wrong with either!
