2:10 --- If there was no cut, how calm and collected Knopfler reacts to see his lyrics paved on the ground, at the very spot that inspired the song. _"Good grief",_ he says, _"I had no idea."_ Meanwhile, as ordinary viewer from an irrelevant part of the planet, I break into tears. It might be Knopfler's personal geography, but that simple line ("girl, it looks so pretty to me" --might as well be "girl, you look so pretty to me") is universal and would take back anyone down the memory lane.

I used to live a few doors away from Mark Knopfler. Most down to earth rock star you could ever meet. Doesn't say much. Him and Brian go way back, both Geordies.

Watching a video where two of the most influential artists in my life are just having a bit of fun, banter and mutual appreciation of each other is basically bringing me to tears. Lemme explain. Back in the early 90's I heard Thunderstruck, then saw the music video...and for the next 2 and a half decades I have devoured anything and everything AC/DC. Then, with the advent of interviews being posted on the internet, I had to find out that one of the biggest rockers in history, Brian Johnson, is not just a charming fellow, but also one helluva cool, nice guy. The kind of guy I would donate an organ to if he needed it. Not because I am starstruck, but because he is relatable and awesome. Then there's Mark Knopfler. The man that, with his band, recorded Sultans of Swing, Romeo and Juliet, etc...and...my father's favorite, Walk of Life. That last song was such a big part of my childhood years because my dad played it all the time. Once grown up and bought the Dire Straits albums for me and collected the vinyls. And my dad passed away in 2011. So every time I hear Mark's voice, I see my dad's face clearer than I have in years in my mind's eye.
That is why this video is one the most beautiful things I have seen... ever.

      Wonderful stuff
You should have seen them both in the 70's and 80's
I was already smitten with AC/DC
      Then I heard dire straits
Coming from a jazz and blues background
      I was in heaven

Hey man, amazingly this is very similar to my story. I got into DS as a kid thanks to my dad, and not long after Thunderstruck took me into AC/DC and heavy rock realm. These were my first favourite bands. Seeing these guys together is a dream come true back from when I was 11.

A mate of mine was in a well known punk band in the Police's early days and when they played together he asked to use his amp but called him "stink" (He tought his name was stink) and he refused to let him use it because he didn't get his name right... He was told to get fucked and the amp was used anyway lol

My neck of the woods. I'm so proud to be from the North East of England. I have lots of childhood memories from right there at the Spanish City at Whitley Bay. This would of been the early-mid 80's when these two legends were flying high in their primes! My mother used to take me on bus trips there in the summer and we'd spend all day on the beach having Ice Cream and eating Fish n Chips.
