Greetings Ian! Are you still here? I may be a tad bit late but in spite of all my forebodings if you're still around and in a position to read this, I hope & pray it will help strengthen you all the more. Else, until I shall myself see you on that beautiful shore, praying this testimony will be a comfort to many a trusting: Seems like yesterday, but it has been 20 yrs since we as a family sang this song before our congregation. And so prophetically too! For, this would be the last time we would sing it together. In a matter of just 10 weeks thereafter my husband who was, like self, a servant of God, passed away. A sudden fainting episode led to his hospitalization followed by the diagnosis of advanced stage of lung cancer - actually tests revealed its widespread all through his frail body, 'doubling' they call it. Thanks to the incomparable Grace of God, he was discharged the previous day to his Homeward journey, i.e. exactly this day 20 yrs ago, and he passed away peacefully and in full consciousness the next day surrounded by family, friends & neighbors as all of us together sang and prayed at his bedside. The Grace of God continues to sustain us as we experience all His promises He made to us during those days of preparation & parting. And I, by His immense mercy, continue to serve Him faithfully along with my children who were just wee babes then. Oh, I could sing, nay shout, from rooftops the song, 'Now More Than Ever I Cherish The Cross..' for nothing could be truer! Such is the Unfailing Love & Incomparable Mercy of God amplified in our lives day in and day out with ever sufficing supply of His Renewing Grace each day. Our only prayer is that we, likewise, will remain faithful & firm to the end as we earnestly endeavor to draw more & more nigh unto Him and ready ourselves for our Homeward journey. Oh, there's this composer named Adam Young (he also goes by Owl City) and a few years ago, he wrote some instrumental scores based on historical events. One of those scores was called RMS Titanic, and one of the songs featured the tune of "Nearer, My God, To Thee." I thought that you might have heard of it! The harmonies sound similar to the arrangement in my church's hymnal, which is a tune called Bethany by Lowell Mason. It seems there's a lot of musical liberty taken in this performance, such as the addition of humming, solos and strings. And I absolutely adore it!
