I've done several of these and it's so much cheaper than the high end primitive shops. If I don't have any extra candles to melt down I will go to Dollar Tree and get the cheapie white or cream candles to melt down and then I add some dye to them for whichever color I'm wanting to use. Also, if you coat them with a layer of matte mod podge before you start layering on the wax, it helps it to stick better and makes it a little"chunkier" or "cakey" looking. 🤗
You could. I did find it's not necessary to sand the battery candles that have the waxing feeling covering. The wax would hold better on the plastic covering on battery candles with sanding first.

I never thought about adding mod podge to the battery candles! So far, mine has held up great but I would love a chunkier look.
