  • * I actually used 3 taps and 2 out lets.
    See how I built the chainsaw mill • How to build a big cha...
    I have used the oiler a few times now and am very happy with the results, I can notice that the chain and bar have more oil on/in them. I have been using clean sump oil (I mean clean) in the oiler and normal bar oil in the power head and it seem to be working well. It is winter here but in summer i will try using bar oil in the oiler as well (in these colder months I don't think the bar oil would flow through the secondary oiler). I was interested to see if the bar oil/sump oil mix would diminish the properties of the bar oil? So far I can't see any negative effects.
    This oiler holds 500ml of oil which is about the same capacity as the 090 oil tank. To make a bigger oil chamber simply increase the size of the PVC pipe used.

    The current position for your drip is just before the chain goes around the bar tip. If you move it to the side if the tip where chain is going along the bar and you should get more oil going into the cut. As it is some is being flung off the chain as it "goes around the corner".

    I got a 8mm bolt about 25mm long drilled a 2.5mm hole down the centre then a hole from the side to the centre. Drilled a hole in my bar so that it delivers the oil to the chain inside the bar…I don’t like the fact that you use waste oil as it’s the viscosity of the oil is what makes your bar and chain last longer but each to their own opinion. Nice job on the tank.

    Yes, this is right, for me I just stuck a magnet on a nut and the hose goes through it so I can adjust the hose when I change the bar.
    I also saw that your chain is at 35 deg angle

    Nice oiler and mill. I have a bandsaw mill but have been in the market for a chainsaw mill design and I must admit yours is simple, effective and to the point. I have quite a few large oak and pine that wont even get on my mill and want to slab them for table tops. Glad I saw and subscribed to yours.
    Keep up the good work.

      If your in the market for a good chainsaw mill check out the acton chainsaw mill i find it to be one of the best mills around www.actonchainsawmill.com

    Nice job 👍 saves drilling holes in the bar better
    Set up than Grandberg oiler not sure 🤔 about using sump oil.

    Nice! Thank you for sharing details of your build.
    I have a word of caution. Your mill is clamped over the sprocket in the tip of the bar. I just burned out my sprocket this way. I'd hate for the clamp to come loose on the bar and ruin my chain. From now on, I will clamping the mill away from the sprocket.

    Nice! Just got a huge pecan log to mill, but I need to add this before going further. Thanks!

    you probably don't want the oil drop right on the bend and get flung off immediately.

    Ive made my own chainsaw mill,and for setting the thickness of board to be cut I drilled holes up and down my vertical post for a pin to go through and and the main frame that clamp to my bar, have you noticed any slippage on yours where you welded a nut and bolt to tighten your desired measurement, whether for bar length and or thickness of slab due to the vibration from your saw? .great video too .

    Having watched your vid I will try using a veg oil bottle wrapped in foam and attached with a bunjeee as I can't be bothered with all that fabrication. Thanks for the tips.

    I need one of those oilers on my 024. It never feeds enough oil.

    Great build and really nice video work. I just built a chainsaw mill based on the Norwood Porta Mill. I have Black Walnut to slab and the oiler on the saw just wasn't doing the job. I need an auxiliary oiler and your video will be a great help. Cheers and thanks!

    very nice mate, howcome old sump oil and not proper bar oil? cheers.

      G'day Sheever, the sump oil is new and very clean, came out of my Maloo (0w-40 full synthetic oil). Bar oil would be best but I don't know how well it would run through the oiler just under gravity.

    • @big_sheever9619
      @big_sheever9619 6 лет назад

      Okay so you could just use brand new sump oil? yeh i thought that bar oil would be too thick and not really run through, ive heard of people using just cooking oil aswell. I just got a brand new 880 and building a mill atm so keen to get out and cut me some solid redgum slabs up the bush. Do you use a skip chain or full come and ripping or cross cut? cheers mate!

    • @mtarrant3
      @mtarrant3  6 лет назад +1

      Yer, you could use brand new motor oil for sure. I haven't tried cooking oil so can't comment.
      On my 5 foot bar i use a skip tooth ripping chain.
      On my 3 foot bar I use a normal cross cut chain most of the time (full come).
      For the 3 foot bar I have both types of chains, ripping and cross cutting, and I cant really tell the difference between the two when I'm cutting or in the finish.
      Redgum is a beautiful timber and should make for some awesome slabs. Chainsaw milling is hard work but the results are definitely worth it.
      A couple of tips; I double up on the hearing protection - so ear plus and ear muffs. I also wear anti-vibration gloves even with AV saws like the 880 and definitely put a hand winch on the mill.
      Good luck with it mate.

      alright awesome will do the double protection and look into some of those gloves. Also i did buy a winch which i will be mounting onto my mill when its finished. Cheers mate youve been a great help!!
