Hi girls, what an unfortunate experience for you both! In our area, upstate N.Y. Finger Lakes region, the Estate business states the rules. Sounds like someone wanted to be first and set up a group of buyers like you both! Our favorite Estate sale business ruled that if you arrived early in the a.m., you signed the list, but had to remain at the sale. I don’t know how people stayed without going for bathroom breaks! Aaaahhhh, at 9:40 you missed it. An Avon Christmas Advent calendar. It was green and when you picked up the fabric pieces it fell back in the tub. It's worth $100+ on ebay. I had one when I was a kid but unfortunately it got moldy in my mom's basement. I've never found one but I always see RUclips resellers pass them up.
Oh girls! At 9:42 for a split second you had a $100 green cloth christmas calendar by Avon in your hands! These are valuable and they come with a little mouse that goes from pocket to pocket to mark down the days. Keep an eye out for these in the future!
Gosh you didn't grab that Vintage Noel ceramic at about 7:50. So collectable and go for big $$$. I collect vintage wedding cake toppers. They can go for a lot. I think the one you picked up was older than 1950s. I have never seen one with attendants on it. So cool. I would have loved to come across that!
I have had that happen to us, we went to one, put name on the list and when the company owner came out to start another person walked up and pulled a list out of his pocket (he was 1st of course ) and complained that his list was the correct one. I thought he was going to get mauled by the real list group, it was scary ! The company owner knew it was a fake list thank goodness and broke up the mob. What an experience

I live in Australia and have never been to an Estate Sale so I don't know if it gets as full on. But I really feel the company copped out and should have stood firm to honour the first list. You still scored some cool pieces. I am a huge fan and you two always put a smile on my face. Take care xox
Here on the west side of New Jersey, lol, they usually just leave out the bowl of numbers an hour or two before the sale. And not to beat a dead horse or in this case mouse...The Avon Advent Calendar!! Ahhh!
I probably would have been mad for a minute and got over it if the list issue happened to me there's just too much stuff to be bought elsewhere to get mad about something like that some of those estate people are a little sketchy you should probably avoid that company from now on
This kind of list drama is constantly happening here in Northern California. People stealing lists, starting new ones. I’ve seen fistfights. It gets craaaazy.
Ugh the estate sale stories I could share...I have learned to be polite but assertive when people are being shady in line. It's so hard for me but after missing out too many times I finally grew a backbone lol!!! Yes Jeannine I would have totally picked up that coloring book! 😍 I need to stay off of Ebay too, it's about to get dangerous for my pocketbook as Halloween approaches lol! That Casper book is amazing. I'm sorry you didn't come across any Halloween nugget buddies but Birdie was a surprise. I don't think I have her yet. That sale looked like a fun one. I love all the random toy bins and boxes everywhere. As always thanks for taking us along!
Omg! That sale was Crazy!!! I was actually on the voided list too! I was number 6 and my mom was 7, we got to the house very late in the morning the next day about 15 minutes before they opened up once we got to the line of people we found out the first list was voided and that the workers weren’t going by it! So we probably would have been in the 60-70s for numbers we just left, was definitely upsetting but could have been worse there honestly was nothing there I really needed nor wanted that badly! My friend was actually on that first list as well and he didn’t end up going in the house because he saw all the stuff he wanted to walk out the door with someone else but he found out hours after the sale ended that the first list was put out the day before in the morning by the home owner of the house the estate sale company workers had no idea that the homeowner put that list out and it caused a big mess!
This started to happen at rummage sales I used to go to. Especially ones that were two days ending in a bag sale. You would see people hiding things only to come back & grab them . Opening doors were always a mad house at certain sales. Ones in Princeton were filled with vendors.
I can't do estate sales. I don't deal well with thst kind of nonsense, aggressive people, etc. With that said, I collect Disney so would have had a ball with the happy meal toys lol. Also the Barbie so I cabin was cool!
I’m still fairly new to estate sales and I live in New York and they are extremely aggressive at estate sales. The last one I went to actually had a list that started at 5 in the morning but we had no clue. I ended up getting some things but I always get anxiety at them because I’m not an aggressive shopper lol
The fact there was a “first list” should be reason enough to allow the people on that list to be acknowledged and allowed to be the first people to enter as they were there to place their names on the list …well…..first
Wow! That does sound like a sketchy situation. I would suspect it was someone or a few who decided to “disappear “ the original list to jump the line or could have been someone with the company being shady-but you both have a great attitude and remembered to have fun with it. I’m sure who ever was responsible will pay a Karmic retribution-and because you rolled with it you were rewarded with things you enjoy plus some things you can sell🙂As always it’s great fun to watch both of you pick through the treasures-I would’ve grabbed the Barbie ski chalet and the vintage wedding cake top-I can’t resist vintage Barbie or plastic cake decorations! If I were having a sale with that much sought after advertised merchandise I would have had someone spend the night in the house. That being said, I guess they didn't because they would of seen or heard the sign going on the house. Additionally, the first name on the list would be the logical one to be held accountable if they forged the logo. Why would anyone set themselves up for that? Very shady. But, I'm glad you had a good time.
Scamy sounding to me! THE FIRST LIST should have been honored. We do NOT do that kind of thing here in KCMO, so you just get in line and wait, unless of course, you have have left a basket, or pen or some kind of marker-which I DO NOT AGREE with! You can not do that kind of thing anywhere else-maybe try that at the grocery store, license bureau, post office, and see if that works-NO, it will not, so I am apposed to that form of line-you are either there or you are not! Unpopular opinion- if the person at 4:30 am stayed there and no one else did they should have been first. I don’t agree with going there the night before and then sleeping in. The first names on the list should be the people willing to camp out. I know if I care enough to get there at 4am and camp out and no one else is there I’d be pissed if 10 people rolled up shortly before all bright eyes cutting in front lol. Enjoy your videos🤗
I think I do actually agree with you on that one now that you put it in that context. I mean so have never heard of an estate sale doing that and I had commented on here that I actually remember seeing that estate sale posted and thought nothing good can come out of them having the buyers make the list. Because somebody who does get there at 4am could also get there and put a bunch of their friends name on the list for them. No matter what hat was a dumb mistake on the estate companies part.

Estate sales are so stressful, I don’t sign up early anymore because of that behavior. Lol with your McDonald’s finds, you guys are around my daughters age…so what you are loving so did we! We ate allot of fast food in the 80’s and 90’s. I have found that the under 2 MD premiums sell really high? They are usually solid plastic no moving parts etc…and marked on the bags. After awhile you can guess which ones qualify, lol. MIB is the way to go!

I remember seeing the listing for that estate sale and thinking ummmm they are letting the buyers make the list? Something not good is gonna happen with that situation. I wouldn’t have been happy but what are ya gonna do? I came up your way on Monday with my son’s girlfriend! We went to Unique in S. Plainfield and Union and 2nd Avenue. I guess the weekends are better because I did find some stuff but not much. But it was fun to take the trip ☺️ EDIT: oh and I TOTALLY think the Estate Sale Company wussed out and didn’t want a riot on their hands and that’s MESSED UP!
How the list system works in Wisconsin is you don’t get to put your name on the list unless u want to stay…they cross your name off if you leave….1 hour before sale the company takes the list and hands out the numbers according to the list….you have 1 hour to take a pit stop or get something to eat or drink….and yes I’ve been screwed by people adding names etc
This is exactly why you Put a sign out that says 1st come 1st serve Because to me it sounds like the person that changed everything wanted it their way only
I spent a lot online for 2 Furbies still in boxes and neither worked. So disappointed but kept them anyway. I wish Cracker Barrell would sell them. They sell new versions of vintage toys and games. I still want two that can communicate. I just can't imagine that the owner of all of this thought this is where all her collectibles would end up. What is kichy?
I'm almost thinking that the first list was a decoy to give hardcore shoppers the slip. Just like y'all, the people on the list came later, thinking they had a reserved spot. Meanwhile, another "official" list got made in the presence of the estate company. It seems to me that estate sale businesses need to take the responsibility of organization and order. Maybe letting people sign up/pre-register online, to avoid a tussle on the sale day.
I would have thought the same as you guys, that the estate sale company put it out. They should have honored everyone that put their name on the list except the person who made it. idk what a weird situation.
Never heard of a list. In my area it is first come first in no numbers no list. Dealers are so cut throat so in my opinion it was done to get competition out of the way

I’ve been going to estate sales for years. I started going when I was in college in my home state of Connecticut. Over the years I’ve lived in Los Angeles, Chicago, and upstate New York, and I’ve been to numerous estate sales in those locations as well. I’ve lived in New Jersey for almost 10 years, and I can honestly say that I have never seen estate sales as cut throat as they are in NJ. I’m not sure the sale you guys went to was in NJ, but I’m just sharing my experiences. I’ve seen it all, and it’s not pretty. My guess is that someone attempted to make the original list look official by using the company logo. I bet the initial list was created by the person who created the second list knowing that he or she was planning to void all of the names on the first list. I know it sounds really cynical (like a borderline conspiracy theory), but I’ve seen and experienced similar shady practices. I’ve made it a point to avoid sales that require a list at the door because they can’t be trusted. If I go to a sale that uses the list system I go later in the day or the next day. I might miss out on some great items, but I’ll save myself the frustration and aggravation.
Sorry, I would’ve been upset. For something that sought after and offered, the company should’ve had a person manning that list. In any case- the names on the first one should’ve been honored. Not very professional IMO…but I’ve seen some pretty crappy estate sale companies that have done worse haha.
Estate Sale Companies that have not been around for a long time, are typically not well mannered or operating with integrity. I am a Realtor and collector, shady vultures in my opinion. The last Estate Sale I went to the Company had items from previous sales for sale and were not interested in selling anything at a fair price on day three...
I know someone that has rental properties and houses he has flipped and are selling in my area and they said they have been contacted by some estate sale companies and were asked if they could rent out his property for a day or two because they wanted to have an “estate sale” at his property. Wanna talk about shady lol
Omg estate sale companies are the worst! They leave you out in waitig in long lines even in winter and act like they are god and we're just little pathetic ants. Even though all they're doing is literally staging and selling other peoples stuff. They literally can't even do that well let alone manage their own list. They absolutely should have honored that first list on the door and whoever made the second list just wanted to be first 😂.

I remember seeing the listing for that estate sale and thinking ummmm they are letting the buyers make the list? Something not good is gonna happen with that situation. I wouldn’t have been happy but what are ya gonna do? I came up your way on Monday with my son’s girlfriend! We went to Unique in S. Plainfield and Union and 2nd Avenue. I guess the weekends are better because I did find some stuff but not much. But it was fun to take the trip ☺️
EDIT: oh and I TOTALLY think the Estate Sale Company wussed out and didn’t want a riot on their hands and that’s MESSED UP!

How the list system works in Wisconsin is you don’t get to put your name on the list unless u want to stay…they cross your name off if you leave….1 hour before sale the company takes the list and hands out the numbers according to the list….you have 1 hour to take a pit stop or get something to eat or drink….and yes I’ve been screwed by people adding names etc
This is exactly why you Put a sign out that says 1st come 1st serve Because to me it sounds like the person that changed everything wanted it their way only

I spent a lot online for 2 Furbies still in boxes and neither worked. So disappointed but kept them anyway. I wish Cracker Barrell would sell them. They sell new versions of vintage toys and games. I still want two that can communicate. I just can't imagine that the owner of all of this thought this is where all her collectibles would end up. What is kichy?
I'm almost thinking that the first list was a decoy to give hardcore shoppers the slip. Just like y'all, the people on the list came later, thinking they had a reserved spot. Meanwhile, another "official" list got made in the presence of the estate company. It seems to me that estate sale businesses need to take the responsibility of organization and order. Maybe letting people sign up/pre-register online, to avoid a tussle on the sale day.

Never heard of a list. In my area it is first come first in no numbers no list. Dealers are so cut throat so in my opinion it was done to get competition out of the way

I’ve been going to estate sales for years. I started going when I was in college in my home state of Connecticut. Over the years I’ve lived in Los Angeles, Chicago, and upstate New York, and I’ve been to numerous estate sales in those locations as well. I’ve lived in New Jersey for almost 10 years, and I can honestly say that I have never seen estate sales as cut throat as they are in NJ. I’m not sure the sale you guys went to was in NJ, but I’m just sharing my experiences. I’ve seen it all, and it’s not pretty. My guess is that someone attempted to make the original list look official by using the company logo. I bet the initial list was created by the person who created the second list knowing that he or she was planning to void all of the names on the first list. I know it sounds really cynical (like a borderline conspiracy theory), but I’ve seen and experienced similar shady practices. I’ve made it a point to avoid sales that require a list at the door because they can’t be trusted. If I go to a sale that uses the list system I go later in the day or the next day. I might miss out on some great items, but I’ll save myself the frustration and aggravation.
Let me guess, the owner died from a heart attack from eating all that McDonald's and Burger King meals, lol 😂
Sorry, I would’ve been upset. For something that sought after and offered, the company should’ve had a person manning that list. In any case- the names on the first one should’ve been honored. Not very professional IMO…but I’ve seen some pretty crappy estate sale companies that have done worse haha.
The sales people should have stepped up to the plate. First list should have been honored and then the list from the morning. 🙅🤷🙋

Estate Sale Companies that have not been around for a long time, are typically not well mannered or operating with integrity. I am a Realtor and collector, shady vultures in my opinion. The last Estate Sale I went to the Company had items from previous sales for sale and were not interested in selling anything at a fair price on day three...
I know someone that has rental properties and houses he has flipped and are selling in my area and they said they have been contacted by some estate sale companies and were asked if they could rent out his property for a day or two because they wanted to have an “estate sale” at his property. Wanna talk about shady lol
Omg estate sale companies are the worst! They leave you out in waitig in long lines even in winter and act like they are god and we're just little pathetic ants. Even though all they're doing is literally staging and selling other peoples stuff. They literally can't even do that well let alone manage their own list. They absolutely should have honored that first list on the door and whoever made the second list just wanted to be first 😂.
