On "My Car Story" we're at Greenmead Historical Park in Livonia MI on 8-20-23.
We're looking at a 1970 American Motors Corporation AMC AMX in Big Bad Blue Paint. The car comes with the 390 CI V8 engine, has the “Go Pack performance option, 4 barrel carburetor option, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is George Burcar. George’s had this car since 1974. He shares he had this car in High School. His Dad gave him advice to always get two parts for his car as a spar and as you can see, after the restoration of this car, it looks showroom new.

Big Bad Blue was an original AMC color. I have a factory ‘69 BBB. It’s a unique shade. People think it’s Grabber Blue or Carolina Blue or Petty Blue but when compared, it’s wonderfully different.
The AMX was a pretty rare muscle car when I was a kid. You didn't see very many of them. American Motors was such a quirky company, but the Javelin and the AMX were really great cars. Thanks , Lou.

Wow! I have always loved the AMX. This car is total performance and is stunning in that color. I'm sorry to tell MODERN automakers - that color never works on stupid SUV's. The styling on this car is stunning! AMC truly did so much with so little. Great imagination! That is a beautiful interior - black with enough chrome and wood accents. That car looks brand new. Also love those Javelins that are around that car. Another great featured car, Lou! You are the best!

With simple but attractive lines, this 1970 AMC AMX 390 looks great with that Big Bad Blue color and black stripes! I like the hood air vents and the sloping rear window with those raised side edges that run down to the trunk, giving it an aggressive Fastback look. A compact but well-distributed interior, with stylized sports seats, along with the instrument panel and automatic transmission trimmed in wood (special mention for the racing-style steering wheel, with a single partition and wooden ring with the AMX logo in the center) . Congratulations to Mr. Burcar; because, possibly, it has become more shiny than when he acquired it back in 1974! Best regards, Lou!

Wonderful long haul ownership! This guy has got this AMX as right as they get. Really different color (but Grabber Blue comes to mind) and I'm liking it. The Javelin was truly the only AMC car I wanted growing up (close as I got as we had a used '73 on the lot in brown where I worked in the later mid 70's). So glad to have seen this AMX here.

Two favourite years of the AMX... 1070 (the first series, with that complex grilled and inset turn lights)... and the 1971... (with those solid tailbar lights, no dividers... and not those 4 round ones). Gorgeous example in great shape... congrats!

My neighbor had one. He was a local dirt track racer and mechanic. I was the pesky young neighbor who showed up whenever the hood was popped. He took me on many rides and Ive never forgotten the feel of that car. Also the local AM dealer was a regional drag race legend. His AMX is still around. I saw it on the webbies this last year. Cool stuff.

It’s me again Lou! I remember Peter Revson, heir to Revlon Corporation, racing an AMX at Lime Rock, CT when I was in SCCA racing (1968-1970). Sadly, Pete died in a practice run crash in 1974. My car was a 1968 Triumph Spitfire Mk 3 roadster which I bought new for $2500+tax. Thanks for the memories.

Wow! What a great AMC! They had 3 "big bad" colors available when they were introduced for the 1969 model year: Big Bad Blue, Big Bad Green and Big Bad Orange - which they continued for 1970. They were all attention grabbers - if this incredible AMX wouldn't turn your head you certainly wouldn't miss it painted in a color out of an Andy Warhol poster. Thanks for another great review, Lou.

Ahoy big brother Lou!! Oh man. This AMC AMX is freakin' EPIC, man. That exhaust can indeed "put a baby to sleep" and would also definitely have my floppy sneakers airborne and flyin' down Ave U here real quick lol 🤣🤪! Ha! I saw my buddy Mexican buddy Martino yesterday on Ave. U (he owns and operates an awesome Italian food store there. A great American story, that) and promptly fired a floppy sneaker off one tubesocked stocking foot from half a block away, which he caught like a football and threw back to me. "Keep those stocking feet up and twitching for the girls, Johnny boy!!", he said, and I do. Almost daily 😉. This blue AMX reminds me of that exchange, Lou. All American guy stuff right there, and Amen to that! That George has had her since highschool and keeps all that loving coming to her is fantastic. The way you really went over that interior, speak about those awesome "coves" along the rear sides, just shows the passion and attention to detail that you have, and why your channel is The Best, big bro. One of the most underrated cars. My father and I are in the market for one possibly!! They are so rare they were made to be a Corvette competitor, but they just didn’t sell enough. Two seater though very attractive.❤

Back in 1974 I had a 1969 AMX the orange colored one with the black stripes for speed 343. I love that car and I kick myself in the ass for getting rid of it. It was an excellent condition to buy out of price. hi myself, I like the 69 better than all the years of AMX and mine was a go package shoe with the 343 the Hearst four-speed and posse traction love the car

@@loucostabile thanks that’s my favorite car 69 AMX thank you for showing AMX hey Lou, maybe if you aren’t on your travels maybe if you could find somebody that could go for something like this but I have a 1977 Chevy Corvette that I’ve had for 34 years. It’s been garage ever since I owned it, it’s a four-speed with a 350 car drive probably 200 miles every two years. If you know anybody that would wanna trade that trade my vet and me pay some cash for AMX 69 let me know I know my car is not worth a AMX is but maybe it could pay for some of it, and I would pay the rest with cash, thank you
I was wondering, if you drive it during a rainstorm, is there a problem with water getting to the air cleaner filter?
I don't think this car sees rain anymore.
Fav yr of AMX missed my chance to buy the same car with a 4 spd, yellow around 90 for 2500
Dash and seats are awesome!! New cars just dont sound like these..and that cold air setup is kiler.

The Big Bad colors from AMC definitely added something to compete with Mopar's High Impact hues, various flamboyant GM offerings and the Grabber colors from Ford.

These are very nice cars that came to the muscle car party a little late. Sadly, people didn't take AMC muscle cars as seriously as they should have. If you mentioned AMC muscle cars in a bench-racing session, people would smile and say, "Oh, you mean a Rambler." AMC could never shake the image of making cheap, appliance-like cars for parsimonious buyers.

Those were truly fabulous cars but underappreciated at the time. Mustangs and Cameros dominated. AMX's were seldom seen even back then.

Grew up in the 70s and cant agree more Neighbor had one AMX of every color combo made at the end of our cul de sac.
Id get yelled at hanging around gawking at them
I purchased my first new car in 1969. I wanted an AMX but the bank would not loan me money to buy one and my mother was the assistant branch manager. So I had to settle for a Pontiac GTO. I had so many problems with the GTO that I sold it before it had 50k miles on it. I can't help but think theAMX would have been more reliable. My wives 1971 Gremlin sure was.

FIRST TIME I REALLY NOTICED 🤷♂️😬 What is it if you don’t mind
Mine was red, most everything else is the same-I think. I only got to drive it 40 miles, was actually a car 18 hours after I bought it.
Drove to Iowa to buy, drove it home, took it to a neighboring farm where the son had a start up body and paint shop. He was to do some paint touch up, door dings mostly. About 3 a.m. the barn burned down. 17 year old with a 3 year old AMX I had plans for, and it was gone.
