there is a 73 for sale here in France with the big block ....and soon i intend to buy it & repaint it . I just love those cars - so rare & amazingly designed
First car I drove was my Dad's '71 Javelin SST. 360 engine. Similar exterior to the car seen here but Cherry red with the white side stripes. Beautiful thick corduroy seats. Lot's a great memories!
Nice walk around. Learned a few things about the Javelin. I have a restored 71 SST 360, had a 72 back in the day and retired and built the 71 to match. Fun car.
Always loved the first gen 1968-1970 so much better. Rode and drove them when they were new strong running cars. A shame they never got the credit they deserved.
As the owner of a 1973 Javelin, I am 2nd owner, I think these cars are overlooked. Just now starting to get some attention. A few notes. I have been asked why my Javelin has Vette front fenders. But the story is they are like that because Penske/Donohue wanted to be able to run bigger tires. SCCA Trans Am rules did not allow fender flares.....so Penske had AMC build them into the car.....front and rear. To bad the dash controls are missing the 'knobs' and inserts. Once gone they are very hard to find replacements. Thanks for showing how cool Javelins are!
Beautiful car! Some of the nicest body lines of the day! The engine was a little light on power but took upgrades really well. My buddy in high school had the 360 in his and it came to life after we gave it a cam and carb.
71-74 AMC Javelin is my lottery dream car. Now 71-72 probably. Never knew about the roof indents specific to those years. Still learning the subtle differences
Had one of these years ago when I lived in Vancouver, it had a sickly 304 in it . One day seen a ad in the news paper for a wrecked 71 javelin, been rear ended for 350 bucks . Went to buy it and to my joy it was an amx with a 401 4 speed needless to say my ol 73 javelin got an immense power improvement!!! A year later I was moving to Alberta so I decided to sell it , a young woman bought it and two days later she called me and said she wrapped it around a power pole on a wet road !!! 😢
I had a 72Jav, and also owned a couple of Pacers. Also worked at an auto parts place in Pasadena Ca.called Verbecks that had a history dating back to 1915, that had a fleet of Gremlins as delivery cars.
There still one of the best looking sport cars of that era….I had a 1969 SST 343 when I was just a kid other wise I might have been smart enough to keep it because I loved that car…✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
I bought a new '71 Javelin SST with this paint scheme (stripe) in Metallic green, white top coves, 401 V8. Sharp car that really went. The AMX V8's were all the same size externally so easy swap if one wanted more power.
Years ago my friend had one, it was silver and he let me take it for a spin and Wowowow impressive speed. The good old days when beautiful muscle cars looked great and hauled ass👏🏻
Yeah, I am a Chevy guy....but I thought long and hard, debating between a 396 Camaro, and an AMX. Actually decided on an AMX....but the dealer couldn't get one with a 401, with the colors I wanted, without waiting for it. Some people think it's ugly, but personally I'd rather have this than a mustang or Camaro from the same era. Just lowered with a nice set of wheels......and I would drive one constantly.
I like almost all American performance cars from this era, but this "Generation Javelin" was just a little too goofy looking. It definitely didn't look like a C3.
They look a little goofy without the spoiler, but with it they look similar to all the competition. Better than the 71-74 Charger, 73-74 Challenger and Satellite. Better than the non-Hatchback Mustangs, better than the big bumper Novas, 74 Camaros, 74 Firebirds. I could go on lol
As much as I 😍 the '70-earlier Javelin & AMX, the only good thing about the 2nd Gen Javelin was the 401. What drugs were the AMC designers on? That thing is as ugly as the Gremlin and Pacer.
The Javelin and AMX were truly underrated muscle cars. My buddy had a 74 Javelin with the 360 4 speed manual.

Some people think it's ugly, but personally I'd rather have this than a mustang or Camaro from the same era. Just lowered with a nice set of wheels......and I would drive one constantly.
Why do you have to block our view???
2023 and people still think it's 1973 with the white letter tires, facing out.
That’s because it looks good on old cars.
JUST SAY NO to Encephalitis
I like almost all American performance cars from this era, but this "Generation Javelin" was just a little too goofy looking. It definitely didn't look like a C3.
They look a little goofy without the spoiler, but with it they look similar to all the competition. Better than the 71-74 Charger, 73-74 Challenger and Satellite. Better than the non-Hatchback Mustangs, better than the big bumper Novas, 74 Camaros, 74 Firebirds. I could go on lol
I’m sorry……those fenders are goofy looking.
As much as I 😍 the '70-earlier Javelin & AMX, the only good thing about the 2nd Gen Javelin was the 401. What drugs were the AMC designers on? That thing is as ugly as the Gremlin and Pacer.
the drugs they were on was called Progress, they were moving Away from Slab sided cars and using Curves.
looks like crap inside :)
