You two are what tourists everywhere should be. Thank you for always being so kind and respectful with your thoughts and opinions, even when they're not exactly positive. I can't even begin to tell you how much I've enjoyed this series, it's helped me through some pretty shitty days. And as a Croat, I can assure you that we loved you guys just as much as you loved us. Stay awesome :)

about dumplings with plums (knedle), you should also use sour cream and cinnamon on them after slicing them apart. bread crumbs you toast first in a pan on oil and then put dumplings in them after cooking them in water. home made dumplings with plums usually are made with fresh plums, store bought dumplings are made with plum jam

Just wanted to thank you for the way you did this series. I do not mind people breezing through the land, and not getting to know her (it's a she), but I hate it when they do not make the effort to know her before presenting her to the world. And that is what so many people do. Breeze through the point of the tip of the iceberg, and then slam a title "All you need to know about Croatia" or something. You didn't do that. You made the effort of understanding the land, so this series really is about Croatia.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  5 лет назад +6

Thank you! We try our best to dig in deep whenever we can, and I'd never be so pompous to call a video "All you need to know" about anything, ever. If we don't get a chance to dig in deep on a place we make a video, we are sure to say that so our viewers understand our perspective. Glad you enjoyed the series! -E

Suppose no land could be summarized quickly, but in particular, from the plains of Slavonija, castles of Zagorija, to the lipi zale of the coast, the perfect blend of history, culture, food, and music differ so much from one end of Croatia to the other. One really must take the time as in these videos to experience all of it. I'm only Croatian by marriage and I love this beautiful nation of proud, peaceful people. Thanks for doing these videos. Hvala ljepa prijeteli.

I'm sad to see that this is the last video of Croatia because this was my favourite travel vlog about my homeland. I'm also sad that you weren't able to experience the real Croatian cuisine because there is a lot of it around. I'm annoyed by all the pizza joints but keep in mind that many tourists play safe and all they wanna eat is the play safe stuff. Thank you for visiting and all the best.

That's why it's smart to rent a place 20-30km from the town and a car to go there once or twice or just go in the Winter.
Since I'm from Croatia I honestly don't see the point in going to Dubrovnik in summer. Its just pure madness then.

Hi guys, thanks for another great video. I am a Dubrovnik resident and I can confirm everything you said about this town. I think that Game of Thrones hipe is the worst thing that could have happened to the city. So many shallow tourist that doesn't even want(or doesn't have time ) to scratch the surface of the place they visit. So according to that everything is adjusted for fast buck(restaurants food included ). Sad. You should have seen it before this GoT hipe, you would have loved it. By the way if you ever come across this place again I will make a reeeeeeal okruglice for you 😌. Best of luck, you are awesome.

Pro tip for driving long tight distances in reverse:: Don't turn your head or body, just use your mirrors. To make sure they're set correctly, use the lines in the road or parking lot when stationary and centered. Used to back up box trucks and roofing trucks with trailer in the city northeastern US.

We usually call those 'Okruglice' knedle and we basically never buy them from the store.
We pick plums from the trees, make the dough ourselves and cook, roll it in the breadcrumbs pour sugar over it and it's delicious, it's definitely not reccommended to buy the ones premade it doesn't taste nothing like when you make it yourself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knedle
Also another lovely video, I like your unique style of filming and the way you portray and explain the scenes.

Sir Arthur Evans "Through Bosnia and the Herzegovina on Foot During the Insurrection, 1877"
It is to the Latins of Dalmatia that we must look for evidences of culture and intellectual progress, and not to the Slavs. ... Ragusa, the Dalmatian Athens, has sometimes been held up as an example of Slavonic culture, but this is only partially the case, for the history of Ragusa is uniformly that of a Latin rather than a Slavonic city. The public acts were recorded either in Latin or Italian, never in Illyric, except in case of correspondence with a Slavonic power; Italian appears as the language of the records and laws as early as the fourteenth century; the pleadings in the law-courts in the fifteenth century were not in Illyric but in a Rouman or debased Latin dialect; the rules of the lay confraternities of goldsmiths carpenters and other trades are drawn up in Italian at least as far back as the year 1306, an incontestable proof that Italian was then the vernacular language of the working classes; and when, in 1435, the little republic set an example which many greater states might worthily have imitated, and instituted public schools, it was from Italy that she invited her professors.
      T. G. Jackson "Dalmatia, the Quarnero and Istria, 1887"
“The old Latin or Roman population of the cities was not however crushed out of existence by these calamities. ...the fugitives from Epidaurus settled on an isolated rock not far from their ancient home, where they founded the city of Ragusa... From this time forward Dalmatia presents the spectacle of two distinct peoples living side by side, of different race, language, customs, and aspirations, and to a certain extent with different religious proclivities. In the towns of Zara, Traù, Spalato, Ragusa, and Cattaro on the mainland, and those of Arbe, Veglia, and Ossero on the islands, were the Romans, or as they came to be called Dalmatians, in contra-distinction to the Croats or Serbs, speaking their ancient tongue, governing themselves by their old Roman law, electing their own magistrates and bishops, and preserving the traditions of the municipalities of the empire

By breadcrums with sugar they meant: Take a frying pan, melt some butter and don't let it burn, put in the breadcrums until all the butter is soaked up, but it's still a bit moist. Add some sugar to make it sweet and a pinch of salt to balance that sweetness.
Pour these breadcrums over the dumplings or better-put the boiled dumplings directly into the pan and roll them through the breadcrums mass. It will stick to it.
This way it is delicious. The way you did it looks horrific. ^^

Funniest line of the series was after the road stop by the police, Eric said "maybe I look like someone who smokes marijuana, but I've never done that." We are leaving to visit Croatia again in 2 weeks and will remember this series. Well done.

you can find "okruglice" that we call "knedle" almost enywhere in supermarkets. you have them with peaches, plums, nougat, vanilla and all kind of fillings. you should of definatly use bread crumbs. (u fry them on a a bit of oil until they turn light brown- and roll them whole in it). then you mix sugar and cinnamon and put alot of it. btw- cinnemon costs like 6-7 kunas so it is not expensive at all here. and homemade knedle r way better (they r made of potatoe dough). good luck preparing them next time :D

Been Really looking forward to this one. Like Kyde, I also Loved GOT, so I would love to visit Dubrovnik also to see where stuff was filmed, but besides that even if GOT production never came to Croatia, this city would probably Still be High on my Croatia list just due to how COOL of an ancient, walled city it is. Kinda disappointing to hear just HOW over-touristed it is, but oh well, that's the nature of travel and tourism nowadays I think. And to think that you guys weren't even there in the summer during the height of European tourism 0_o
    But anyways, some points:
    - Dang that flower was Wild
    - That cake looked yummy
    - LOL another "5 or 10 minuets" situation X'D X'D
    - Wow, those narrow little roads are CRAZY. A little bummed we didn't get to see the view from the top of the mountain, but I guess that's just one more reason to visit it for myself one day! Lol :))
    - Wow, what a Cool wall. WHAT IS IT WITH CITY WALLS??? Lol just the idea of them is So Cool.
    - I personally would say that that fee is worth being able to walk the wall and going in the fort. It seems like just the wall itself would be a Multiple hour thing, you could proably even make it a half a day thing if you took it slow and wanted to stop and look at everything, so $25 for a 1/2 day excursion I think is reasonable, Especially given just how COOL that wall is * _ * :))
    - "Tastes like a tea bag" X'D Another great addition to #KydeSaysTheDarndestThings ;) =P
    - Just looking at the wall from that window at the fort Blows My Mind. No Offense Eric, I wasn't paying full attention to what you were saying on the history and had to go back, because all I could think just looking at the city and the wall is: ......that's real...People BUILT that....Humans Are Amazing......LOL
    - "Dragon tits" X'D X'D X'D X'D
    - Omg...those little packets of alcohol are AMAZING XD
Really enjoyed watching your guys' travels throughout Croatia. Kinda really bummed these European videos are almost over. Looking forward to watching some new prefecture videos and things too though. Another Great video. Thanks guys :))

Oh OKRUGLICE with plums - we call them KNEDLE coloquially - the dough is similar to gnocchi dough, and breadcrum part you did wrong - when you put breadcrumbs in a pan with a bit of butter it really ends up being delicious on top ;) and one more detail that makes them tastier is eating them with a bit of sour cream ;) its one of my favorite childhood meals, but I don't know how good the bought kind is, my mom makes them from scratch ;)

  • @norisknofun9720

Its not just dough, its dough mixed with potato. These ones probably are not as tasty, but homemade ones, are super tasty. Even though, its mostly made by leftover mashed-potato from lunch, day earlier ahahh
I lived in Dubrovnik for 2 years, and you are absolutely right, its way too much oriented towards turism, there is not much going for locals at all anywhere in the city. Almost every single local is renting apartments or houses and are actually living somewhere else.

That guy with a 'goofy hat' is a so-called 'street musician'. Here, in Europe, there are no requirements that the so-called 'street musician' must fit in with the city he plays in, neither musically nor in terms of clothing.
I hope this makes it easier for you to understand.

It's certainly going to be a different type of adventure with 5 kids, but it's doable! If we had kids we'd find it very important to let them see things outside of their normal world for sure. Good luck with your adventures!

im guessing here, but proppably boil for 12 minutes and then you could fry it in butter and use the butter and finely grained bread crumb to make a rue to pour over it. I mean its a fruit dumpling... what else can you do.

    • @delukxy
      @delukxy 5 лет назад

I like experimenting and as I watched I thought that after boiling if you melted the sugar into a sauce and then added the bread crumbs you could pour that over the dumplings. I would then put them in a very hot oven for a few minutes to give them a crispy crust. Serve with thick cream maybe?
