- Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2010 | Nestled inside its mighty ramparts is Dubrovnik, the "Pearl of the Adriatic." From this remarkably preserved medieval fortress city, we venture into less-touristed corners of the former Yugoslavia. In Bosnia-Herzegovina, we visit Mostar - war-torn in the '90s, but bursting with promise today. In Montenegro, we sail the fjord-like Bay of Kotor and explore its mysterious, mountainous interior. #ricksteveseurope #croatia #mostar

Dubrovnik is a marvel of architecture, so beautiful.
Western Europe gets all the spotlight and attention but I have really enjoyed seeing and learning about Eastern Europe. Just as historical if not more and amazing to see.
this is southern not eastern
@@ericpaunovic3579 I call it eastern because the countries in Western Europe like Britain, France, Spain, Germany and Italy seem to get most of the media attention.
@@ericpaunovic3579 It's the Southern Part of Eastern Europe.
Love Mostar and Dubrovnik is truly the "Pearl of the Adriatic".
Rick Steve, si vous le pouvez, continuez pour le plus grand plaisir de de tous.
I have learn enough from your videos. keep it up!
Another excellent video from Rick. Hard to believe it was made 10 years ago.
Bosnia-Herzegovina deserves its own episode! I stayed in Sarajevo for some time and loved it. Loved Mostar as well.
Sarajevo is amazing!
Dubrovnik in Croatia-one of the most beautiful Mediterranean cities!
its fabulous but Game of Thrones has flooded the place with annoying gawkers!
And richest in history!
As an american, I love to watch the travel videos of Rick Steves, because it has political history as well as fun history. I loved this video , it was amazing!!! So beautiful in this area! I think Rick is pretty cute too!
Too bad his political views are so far to the left.
@@dorothygale5896 p
@@dorothygale5896 Yes AND, that's a good thing!! Why on earth, would you wish for Rick, to be on the far right?! We have enough issues, specifically regarding matters of "race" on this planet and the US, stands out with this issue! Btw, you do know right, that "race" does NOT actually exist? RACE is simply a human construct, just as global borders, are only man made. If anyone knows true and proper history, they'll know this is absolutely true. Any other belief around RACE, is purely subjective and delusional.
@@hiranmoyroychowdhury153 Not funny @ all! Do you sit on the far right? If so, not good @ all! The far right, represents all that's negative and poor within humanity.
@@dorothygale5896 Exactly Dorothy. His travel shows are well produced. But his political affinity is disappointing and a disservice to the well being of America and the world.
That bridge in Mostar must be one of the most impressive sights in Europe
I just come back from there. Yes, pretty impressive!
You should see the bridge in Ronda, Spain
Your videos are so addictive.. Thank you for making such videos 👍❤️
Thanks. Very good videos.
Hi Mr. Steves. I really enjoy your travel guide tours.
In this special one, you've visited my country Bosnia and Herzegovina and its city Mostar and thank you for that. I just wanted to point out one small detail. At 1:00 you said we will meet 3 major ethnic groups saying Croats, Serbs, and Muslims. Instead of Muslims you should have said Bosniaks, which is their real name. A Muslim would be a religious category and not ethnic.
Thank you and keep making such videos. Love from Bosnia and Herzegovina!
👍👍👍
thats true
I love the Balkans because it's fascinating history from the Roman Era all the way til now
This is a great video. Thanks.
I love u r videos...Rick Ur Job is Best job of alll world..Good JOB
I am from india. Now enjoying your Europe videos which are excellent in nature & your deep inside places are outstanding
Hi Rick,
Thanks for posting this. At 19:00 exactly, to the right, is the alley to my house, pretty cool.
milan kandic really????????
milan kandic glad to know it's real. I thought it was real but glad to know it's super real. Xoxo love from USA
I appreciate how reserved and respectful his narrative and his questions are. No sardonic, cynical comments and no hiding unpleasant facts.
J. May could learn a thing or two about good manners from this American.
Well done mate (aka 'bud'). A quite fair, accurate and positive portrayal of an amazing part of the world that was/is my homeland - in all its 'diverse' beauty. Thanks.
I was at Durbrovick Kotar and A place near Mostar called Trebje and I went there for a week and I'm Irish
thank god and god bless you for doing this.... its so unique as if im in there with you.godbless .
I’m a Bosnian and I live on Bosnia I have to say it’s a beautiful country and I’ve been in Mostar back in June 2019 and it’s beautiful! I recommend u try it out!
The orthodox priest seemed really chill
Mr Rick I am very happy to see your nice discovery documentary vdo 's and narrative about the history is really very nice appreciating, thanks again Mr Rick your nice effort. I'm from Bangladesh 60 yo, maybe we are same age.
Wow very nice destination..
having just returned from Croatia on my hols , I so want to return . we stayed in a htel in lapad bay near Dubrovnik and the old town was fantastic. we also went to Montenegro and kotor and budva bothe were lovely . kotor bay was great too.
You should come to Bar and stay in Sutomore! I grew up there and it's easily my favorite place in the world ;) Also - Split is a nice place.
how awesome you were able to visit before the hoards of tourists descend upon Croatia looking for Game of Thrones filming scenes.
21:21 You're right, I really like travelling, too, I want to visit these places
Croatia is my favourite ever Balkan country.
3 reasons why
Reason#1 because of the Adriatic Coast especially Istria, Kvarner Bay and Dalmatia
Reason#2 Wine
Reason#3 Dubrovnik being a filming Location for Game of Thrones, Star Wars and Robin Hood
Croatia is not balkan, just a little part, but actually, not balkan, different music, different mentality, all things are different, but only language is almost a same although we have croatian language with italian words ( part of istria and dalmatia), zagreb and slavonia sounds like a slovenian language, but we re a story “for us”.It is croatia actually
@@mestrovickk7583 I've been to your Country mainly at the Adriatic coast
Please make a documentary on any middleast country.your last iran travel was beautiful, want more like that

BRAVO RICK STEVES
Thx so cool
The old bridge in Mostar is actually pretty new. The old one was brought down by the Croats in 1993 only to be rebuilt later on.
I'd love to visit these places! I love them

Sir expect such videos about other continents too
It will be good if you do it on asia and africa
Back in 2017 my itinerary plan was Podgorica, Mostar and Dubrovnik, but a roommate at my hostel in Sarajevo suggested that I replace Podgorica with Kotor. I think it was a good decision.
Kotor in Malaysian 's 'dirty', no offence!
Hi Rick,
How come you have not made a video about Albania yet? I really enjoy your videos since you capture beautiful sceneries, they are very informative, but most importantly not overwhelming with information
maybe a bit hard for logistics? I'm only assuming
@@mikezterspage he's getting old. I don't think he'll do Albania in the future
Rick has also not filmed episodes about Serbia. In December 2012, I visited Beograd (Belgrade), Serbia, and had a great time. While the city is dominated by blocky, communist-era buildings, there are pockets of hidden beauty. Kalemegdan Park, twenty-four hours after a snowstorm, was astonishingly beautiful for my evening walks! The Church of St. Sava is richly ornate and HUGE! The old historic cafe "?" (Yes, that is its name --- a question mark!) is cute and old-world charming with small, wooden tables. Give Belgrade a try. The Serbs I encountered were delightful.
Dubrovnik is like Assassin's Creed 2.
Amazing i want to visit
Fantastic and realistic video...thanks for neutrality in comments... Al the best, safe roads...
Can you comw to my school to talk to us? My teacher playa your videos and we all love them! We would love for you to visit our school!
Is your school in the old city?
11.32 to 11.34 that was awesome
In 1987 I visited Belgrade Yugoslavia while friends were posted in the Canadian Embassy. I didn’t get to visit other areas while I was there. I did get a beautiful painting of Dubrovnik as artists would go door to door selling their framed artwork. I’m not sure what their currency is now, when I was there it was Dinars. They were an extremely poor country at that time. In the city there was produce markets outside their grocery store. The produce was amazing! The beef was delicious! Their cattle had not gone to modern ways of feeding their cattle. The flavours took me back to when I was growing up in the 50s/60s.

Hello 😻❤Wow !@Prodigious Of Events Story Clips ,Like💓!!@, Very Excited!!!🙀🙊!!.
That man Cameron does not know much either of Yugoslavia or its distant or recent history. His "across Yugoslavia" was just Croatia and Bosnia&Herzegovina.
This video inspired me to research the complicated history of B&H. I'm not really sure what to make of what the priest said. It sounded like he advocates for yet another country!
6:23 - 7:00 Which song is this? Really beautiful.
I was a young guy of 20-few when I had the chance of working in Ljubljana. Beautiful country, beautiful people, beautiful experiences. To me, forever, there will be no Slovenia nor Croatia nor Bosnia. There will only be Yugoslavia.
I don't care what anyone tells me, that was the most fierce war in our life times.
oh i watch it in 11 september 2020
Europe is the continent in the world.
I've been to Dubrovnik and Mostar in 2015 but I couldn't go to Montenegro.
I wish I could've been there. It's a real shame.
Rick Steve plese visit Serbia
Thank You Rick!
Great job! I love seeing your videos, you should go to Macedonia- If you need help or some one to join you I can help:)
11:46-11:48 Slovenes too don't forget, mr Steves.
May the point where "east meets west" remain at Istanbul.
OMG RICK URE SO CUTE AS USUAL
there all mix Celtic you will find freckles and red hair on Bosnians Montenegrins and Croatians
red hair coloring is popular
this man made island is extremely Celtic
Sensitively done. Reconciliation would be a Godsend to these people.
Dubroovnik... known on HBO as King's Landing
Going to this city in September, any special out of the way spots to go and check out?
Could one time journalists from anywhere avoid story about war and talk about beauty of this part of Europe?!
History is important
And those who don't learn from history will repeat it
me go just in my life visit this site
Dubrownik and Mowstar. It's weird how Americans do that!
Is it just me or Mostar looks like something from a medieval RPG
living there feels like a medieval rpg

Oh well, I am an American...All of my grandparents were Serbs BUT came from Croatia. I am NOT Orthodox. I gues that means I am not a Serb (according to that priest). I wonder, does that make me a Croat?
Regarding of what the priest said, don't take it so serious. For them noone who is not religious is not a Serb. Serbian Orthodox church is one of the reasons why the muslims are now called "Bosniaks" and prior to war they were predominantly muslim Serbs and to a (far) lesser extent muslim Croats, or simply just Yugoslavs.
When it comes to your ancestry, it is possible that some of your ancestors changed faith if you are not of Orthodox background, however there were many catholics in Croatia which considered themselves as Serbs, especially in Dubrovnik.
If you are wondering how come your ancestors are Serbs but they come from Croatia, it is actually very simple. Serbs are the largest of the south Slavic peoples and their number in Croatia was extremely high. I don't want to get into politics now but considering that during the WW2 Nazi Croats killed around 1.5 million Serbs in Croatia and Bosnia and during the Yugoslavian war 1992-1995 Croats expelled more than 200.000 Serbs from present-day Croatia (they mostly fled to Serbia), it shows how many Serbs actually lived in that area. Regardless of the genocide and the ethnic cleansing in the 20th century, Serbs are still by far the largest minority in Croatia.
Sissy Awakened what did u expect from a priest? especially in an area where religion is the only thing that separates people. and remember one needs to divide people in order to subjugate them - divide et impera
Serbs don't exist.
James Johansson, Seriously!? #Croatians are basically Catholic Serbs."!? Why don't you come to Croatia and say that? You piece of sh..!
Vladimir Spasojević, serb, everithing that you write is a lie. To lie is in your DNA. Only truth is that srbes are largest minority...all 4% of them.
Kotor came out directly from the Lord of the Rings. I don't think Tolkien could have seen it; much of his original inspiration were in place like Ireland and Switzerland; impressive.
I love Montenegro
Are you allowed to cross borders with a rented car from sixt ?
Still not even 20 years ago that all of this happened. I tried to picture myself in her place as she talked about what it was like to live and die in the very street they walked down. So sad! Such a beautiful piece of the world though and I am so glad they are living peacefully and rebuilding. I would so love to visit there on day! I'm in the United States and long to visit Europe!
1:25 Oh God, I need to get back to Europe - sad ex pat.
23:54 - Placebo!
They should build a tunnel to get past those mountains...and it possible today with the technology available.
I really wish you showed Serbia here as well since it's a big part of the story. And it's a beautiful place with lots of amazing things to see. I am not sure why would it be simply left out.
Looks like it was all made by Santa Claus. They've done a great job of rebuilding the country. And the visitors keep coming. It was very poignant to hear her talking about her departed friends.
No mention of the Cable car at Dubrovnik, which is a must for tourists and no Mention of Trogir?
No mention of Split either.
In every country in the world, there is a subsegment of people eager for violence and war. The only question is whether the rest of the population is educated and confident enough to resist manipulation and their own tribal instincts.
Can you please do one on Serbia.
