Most of the trainer use 'Private IP addressing range' for subnetting for their explanation. The method we use for private IP address subnetting, similar is also applicable for 'Public IP address ranges'.
sir after subnetting we get like 2,3,4 etc network and each network we got some hosts(like 62 etc)so the hosts are private ip address ..and network is public ip address..is this true ???/ please answer me..
I'm sure you found the correct answer by now but here goes... Each network is a subnet/subnet work. Public IP addresses are routable over the public internet. Private IP addresses are not routable over the Internet. They can only be used withing you organization or enterprise.
Thanks. Finally someone explaining more of the WHY(rather than the How) we need a subnet mask. To prevent WASTAGE of IP addreses.

i have a question why we use subnet mask ?
subnetting is different and subnet mask is different.
Subnet mask: it is used to differntiate network and host portion.
Thanks thats very clear explanation
Sir, is subnetting done only for private networks/IP's? If it is also for Public Networks/IP's, then how it is done for such networks (public)?
