Woodturning - The Grumpy Goose

- You can almost hear this goose hissing at an unsuspecting passerby. I’ve been hissed at by many a Canada goose and after seeing a photograph of one of the original Danish goose figurines, couldn’t resist making one of these for myself.
Not surprisingly, I saw that first photograph while scrolling through the results of an image search on an unrelated topic. The wood goose in that image was attributed to Kay Bojeson
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kay_Boj...
When I followed the link associated with the image, I discovered an entire world of mid-century modern Danish figurines. Many of which either were or could be made on a wood lathe.
This video is a salute to the sublimely proportioned Danish originals and was inspired by the goose in the photograph that got me started down the Danish mid-century modern figurine rabbit hole.

Two thumbs up on this project! 👍👍
Much appreciated! I’m glad you liked the video. Prior to doing this video I had no idea how many other people had been chased by hissing geese.
Thanks for watching and commenting.

LOL. I'm one of them. I worked many different farms growing up. Geese are better than any watch dog. They are relentless once they are after you.. LOL.

I’m glad you liked the video. Danish Mid-Century Modern woodwork is amazing in multiple ways.
Thanks for subscribing. I’ve got more videos like this planned, so please stay tuned.
This is so nice. I must give it a try.
You should! This was goose is more challenging than it appears, but the materials are minimal. It’s well worth the effort to give it a try.
Thanks for watching and commenting.

I agree! Danish Mid-Century Modern design is one of my favorites.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Like this a lot!! Cuter than a bug's ear!! And yes, I grew up on a farm in Illinois and got chased by a number of cranky geese!!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Like you and I, I imagine the original designer of these was also chased by geese as a youngster. 😀
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Superb.😊
Thanks! I’m glad you liked the video.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice idea, love it. But where are the wings?
This project is a reproduction I made to honor the Danish mid-century originals and the originals did not have any wings either.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Good job👍👍

Great video our geese would chase you for sure but the would also get drunk on the steel run off maybe I shouldn’t tell that part but true
I’m glad you like the video. Steel run off?! 😮 I’ve never heard of that, but I’ll take your word for it. Are intoxicated geese more aggressive or less?🤔
Thanks for watching and commenting.
When they got drunk they comical to watch staggery like a drunk person steel run off was from what we called moonshine illegal corn whiskey but that was many many years ago no one I know has made any for a long time
If you could give some blank wood sizes it would us new to turninf
Unfortunately, I actually can’t/won’t do that. The design is not mine to distribute. I’ve answered this question in more detail elsewhere in the comments. If you scroll through the comments for this video, I’m sure you’ll find that thread.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Can you share the measurements and how the hole placement?
Unfortunately, this is something I can’t/won’t do. As I stated in the description, this design isn’t mine. I made this video to pay homage to the originals and to the entire era this type of work came from. Publishing any design details could (probably would) run into some sort of copyright issue(s).
If you do some sketching -graph paper helps- I’m sure you can figure out the general dimensions. That isn’t the real challenge with this project. Actually executing all the small details is much more challenging.
Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting.
@@CroakyOak Thank you for responding!!! Enjoyed the video. God bless.
would be great if you gave measurements
You are not the first viewer to ask for dimensions. Unfortunately, this is something I can’t/won’t do. If you scroll down in the comments you’ll find the section where I explain why this is so and what can be done instead.
Thank you for watching commenting!
@@CroakyOak thanks for video and I understand about the dimensions
You’re welcome and thanks for understanding. Also, thanks again for watching and commenting.
