  • This is my entry for the November edition of the RUclips Cross Channel Challenge (#YTCCC2021) for which the theme was #AnimalKingdom. This was set by Ahron Africanmeat ( / ahronafricanmeat .
After researching animal shapes for the dog in my last project, I came across this design for a #cat. As Ahron suggested the project to be functional too, I decided that the tail of the cat would work brilliantly as a kitchen roll holder.
The wood used in this project was Oak, cherry from my garden, spalted beech (locally sourced), spalted walnut (locally sourced) and Bubinga.
    Products used:
Chestnut products (chestnutproduc...) Cellulose sanding sealer, acrylic gloss lacquer and microcrystalline wax
    Yorkshire grit (yorkshire-grit...) Original
    Acrylic pain pens from HobbyCraft

Hi Jiggsy. Awesome cat. He is so adorable. I was excited to watch today when I saw the first notification of the premier. I thought he may be a small piece like I have seen you do. When I saw what you were making I thought this is even cooler than I thought. I love it when I can make somethings that is actually useful and beautiful. Very skillful with the skew, too. Take care.

As soon as I had the idea of the cat, I knew I wanted to use the spalted beech for the body as for me it would be reminiscent of the markings of a tortoiseshell cat.

    • @JiggsysShed

Yeah, it does look a bit out of proportion, but serves the required function well. I have seen a number of these cats made for display purposes with the tail a lot more delicate.
