  • How to make a elegant bird on the wood lathe.
Woodturning a bird in a brass ring on the wood lathe in this woodworking video.
This is one of my favorite designs and one of the first things I started making when I got into woodturning. Made of walnut wood. This is a woodturning project for beginners and a really satisfying make.
Here is a link to another bird video i made:

When I first started turning I saw a Carl Jacobson video where he made a penguin.
This opened my eyes to the fact that the lathe is perfect for making birds.

I love your ideas and as far as making the spheres? You got it down 100%!!! You are a joy to watch. The wood comes to life in your creations. The flask is my favorite so far and the avocado is to die for! I look forward to see what's next. ❤

Fantastic looking bird. I am new to turning, what are the approximate sizes? I am not very good at determining the proportions.

I dont understand drilling 3 sizes of holes, to mount the head? Please explain? Thank you!

The first hole creates a better surface for the second. This is easier than drilling a perfect hole on a round surface where the drill bit will want to twist away from the intended location

LG Gerhard

I know I'm prob late to the show but wonderfully work.
I've a question, if you don't mind me asking. what solder did you use to solder the stainless steel together. I tried that previously in the past for another project I was working on but could never make it a solid joint a abandoned the project but if you don't mind sharing it would actually allow me to finish it.

Hi 😃 I’m using standard solder for this one. It’s not super strong but if you prepare the pieces and make flat surfaces it will hold. For my purpose it is enough. Good luck finishing your project 👍

@@nordicturning thanks I tired using regular solder with mine but its to brittle. Might try squaring up the joints.
