Agreed. I suspect Fatty could tell tales for hours and I would love to watch/listen. Given the amount of chemicals/alcohol he (apparently) ingested back in the day, he has an amazingly sharp memory. Thanks for sharing these chats, Delos!
Probably because a number of folks "just binge watched these" (ie all 6 episodes) and think Captain Fatty is a very knowledgeable sailor and an interesting storyteller, subject matter of the last video notwithstanding.
Awesome Interview! Thanks for sharing that with us. It's always those "Old Sailors" that bring life to the art of sailing simply through their stories and sharing of their experiences. Hats-off to Capt Fatty and Caroline for their dedicated years of travelling the seas. And hats-off to the Delos crew for bringing these experiences to us! And I'm sure you guys are going to be a similar reference to other sailors in your days to come. You already have such a positive impact on so many of us. Keep up the amazing efforts. And thank you, again!
Wow Cliff. What an awesome thing to read. Thank you for your kind words. Meeting someone like Fatty was a huge thing for us. We loved just to sit with him, share a drink and exchange stories. And then we get to share it with you guys!! Thank you so much for your love and support. It means the world.
WOW, I couldn't stop watching, what a story. That's a hit movie in the making. To think that is just one of his stories from 50+ years sailing around the world. SV Delos you guys give me something to look forward to every week. Don't stop or change a thing.
I really enjoyed listening to Captain Fatty's stories. Thank you Delos for putting this together, I'm sure you will never forget meeting this gentleman.
Sailing SV Delos thanks for the reply, I love you guys and this is my favorite channel on RUclips. Thanks for sharing your amazing adventures with all of us!
Great collection of interviews. Thanks for keeping us in touch with the history and giving these great people a voice to the Delos followers!, Sk in the UK.
Great interview Delos, love everything you do! Unfortunately, Jurgen’s wife was found on their boat either murdered or self inflicted, and Juergen was beheaded. Very disturbing world we live in. Be safe, be healthy and hope we cross paths sometime in life! Smooth sailing Delos!!
What fun it would be if it were ever possible for the SV Delos crew to host Cap'n Fatty, Caroline, Suzie and Jules of Emerald Steel and video that. Meantime - what a great series of videos. I've been a fan of Capt Fatty for a long time, and was just recently looking to see if he had any videos on youtube. What a treat! Thanks a boatload S/V Delos crew!
I really enjoyed the interview -- start to finish. I think you are very lucky to have had the opportunity to interview them. I've read Captain Fatty for many years.
Great video series and very cool how you saw his boat on AIS and contacted him. Finding out Sabine was killed on the boat and Jurgen was recently beheaded causes a moment of silence.
what a great interview. I have just bought Captain Fatty's book for my partner who avoids computers but loves reading, so he can get a glimpse of this legend. We finally set sail for good in 3 years when youngest daughter goes to uni. All your videos keep me going while we build our vintage catamaran. We are most definitely not credit card sailors. Anyone can make it happen with heart and passion. We plan to sail the more remote or poorer areas of the world so would like him to hear about Jurgens story!
This series was so inspiring, to go back to good ol hard work and the strength of the human spirit, made even more poignant with the wind noises in the background. Well done Delos fam! What a treasure Fatty Goodman is!
Wow Thanks for sharing this and interviewing Gary and Carolyn. What a treasure they are. It was interesting to see the changing of the guard. Gary and Carolyn being old media and the Delos crew the new media. I hope you guys continue to do a great job and accept the challenge of carrying on the torch carried by great folks like the Goodlanders.
Really guys, I have been following you for a log time, and continue to enjoy it more. Makes me very happy to see that you of the younger generation are so well founded and so sharing. I know that all are not like you, but indeed most are. The world is a better place because of you all. And Thank you Capt Fatty and Caroline for all that you are and have done and shared, and blessed and lifted. Good people you are. I have ordered my first Book, "Red Sea Run...". and look forward to more....
Hey guys. This series has been some of my most enjoyable viewing. Thanks for msking these videos. they are great. The poeople and the stories scare and inspire me.
Capt Fatty is a great story teller. I've been watching Delos for years and bought my own boat a few years ago. A 78' Hughes like Wildcard. I read one of Fatty's books and thought if he could take that boat around the world twice then I could do it at least once. Thanks for the great interview. Good winds and calm seas.
OMG this guys stories are great! Awesome interview! He should do a RUclips Channel he would be great at it! This guy has the lost art of many sailing adventures!
my 3 biggest fears would be sinking...not knowing where the hell i was...and pirates, not necessarily in that order. cool story, but more than a bit sad about the guy's missus. thanks for showing these videos. it was a very enjoyable hour or so.
The moment he started the story about the German, I made the connection to the couple who were ultimately killed in the Philippines. They executed him after about four months. This happened about when Delos was airing videos of going through the Philippines so it stuck with me. He sounds like a real character... so sad.
Yeah, there wasn't too great of a temporal gap between Delos being at the the supposedly safe yacht club near Davao and the attack to that exact same place either. That didn't have a great ending either..
Good god! only 925 views. Such amazing stories hilarious and entertaining 6 part stories about FattyGoodlander...SV DELOS is just GREAT. Best sailing channel on RUclips.
Delos crew...thanks for the unexpected treat...and thank you Capt Fatty and Caroline for sharing...i couldn't watch just one and of course was late to a appt ..lol
Boy Captain Fatty is a real page turner. What a fantastic interview. If anyone knows how to stop leaving the audience begging for more It's Captain Fatty. On the other hand it's the age old story of a young beautiful "good" girl falling in love with the "bad Boy" filled with the dickens and spontaneity. He had everything she didn't.... texture, and loads of character and adventure. Some times it's the Pollyannaish types that cling to the bad boys for as a rebuke to their conservative "toe the line" upbringing. Again opposites always seem to attract. What a great couple, and what a man of great experiences and fascinating exploits. Delos your fans can't thank you enough for bringing these wonderful episodes. To all the crew of Delos we send our love, best luck, and always fair winds.
Unfortunately Jurgen didn't learn from this experience and sailed into part of Philippines where Abu Sayaf had an active presence. We find the world as it is, not the way we wish it to be. Sabine suffered the worst during their captivity and refused to give in to the same experience in the Philippines.
What an emotional roller coaster of a story with a very sad ending. As Brady said. .. what a set of balls on that guy to go back and stand up to those Somalians. Be careful guys.
A sad, but fascinating story. I hope Brian took note and will be wise in plotting Delos's future journeys. They've already had one close call in Madagascar and far too many folks in far too many parts of the world see a ship like Delos as nothing but a potential source of income, or as a potential political statement. "There are old sailors and there are bold sailors, but there are no old bold sailors." -proverb
This story is insane. Probably the most insane. There’s another good hour long video I saw on RUclips of a guy recounting his boarding by pirates off of Somalia, unfortunately I can’t remember his name (British guy) or the boat’s, but they were actually able to contact an American naval ship that helped them.
After finding out the sad end to this story I have all more respect for Jurgen and his wife.... What is the fate of Rockall? That boat if still afloat she needs to be memorialized, as a tribute to a couple with a legendary drive, a warning to sailors, and because after all Rockalls been through, she most defiantly has stories to tell.
Wow... Mind blowing interview and story of real life sailing, even if it is actualy ultra violent and super sad! Captain Fatty is a figure and his wife is as much...! In every video you are bringing something new team Delos, and this one was a goodie! thx & keep enjoying PS: stay away from Somalia would be a good advice :P
Now I can imagine Karin and Brian in 30+ years. But, we'll be getting their stories in color and much closer to when they happen. Looking forward to it.
These interview videos are way too short! I could listen to Capt'n Fatty for hours and hours. I discovered sailing and Capt;n Fatty and Caroline the same way you did. when I would get a new Cruising world, I'd Read Capt'n Fatty first thing. Thanks for these short videos though.
Sailing SV Delos Hey Brian, Brady, Kazalarr we all very good thank you👌🏼 What an inspiration to us all! Thanks for sharing cap'tn Fatty's story's to us, what an outstanding seaman! Petty there isn't a taking your hat off emoji 😍
Now THAT is one heck of a story. For someone who was born & raised in Africa, I know that the dangers that Jurgen & Sabine faced, were indeed terrifying. And after surviving all that, now they both lost their lives to more terrorists in the Philippine this past February, in such a tragic and gruesome way. How so very sad indeed. RIP Jürgen Kanter & Sabine Merz, may your souls find peace 🙏🏻😔🌷
I am a German - and this story is so shameful for our cowardice Government. Not that I expected something different: Have you ever noticed the nice words in an American Passport ("Please support the bearer of this document, bla, bla,)? There is nothing like this in a German Passport, just a cold reminder, that the Passport is Property of the German Government.
A fascinating couple and great interviews. I assume that this was filmed before Jugen Kantner was beheaded by ISIS members in the Philippines. One wonders what he was thinking sailing in those waters, perhaps he did not know they were pirate-infested and sailors are advised to avoid the place. Perhaps he knew and did not care. I would have loved each video to be 25-30 minutes long because Capt. Fatty and his traveling companion have so much to share and talk about. I would love to hear more about lying ahull and other storm sailing tactics. Or perhaps more about his magazine article publishing, or even more about how they live. Anyway, what was there is quite good and thanks for sharing it.
Many sailors sail the Phillipines and Indonesia. The live piracy map icc-ccs.org/piracy-reporting-centre/live-piracy-map reveals the problem is further spread than some seem to think and includes more countries than the usual reported suspect. Even Corsica reported an attack. It's still all saver than getting lost during a visit to for example New Orleans. No one wonders what those US tourists visiting the Big Easy.
Just binged watch these, pure gold. These videos aren't nearly long enough, that guy has a lifetime of knowledge and stories to share.
Agreed. I suspect Fatty could tell tales for hours and I would love to watch/listen. Given the amount of chemicals/alcohol he (apparently) ingested back in the day, he has an amazingly sharp memory. Thanks for sharing these chats, Delos!
How is this the top post on a vid where geriatrics were murdered?
Probably because a number of folks "just binge watched these" (ie all 6 episodes) and think Captain Fatty is a very knowledgeable sailor and an interesting storyteller, subject matter of the last video notwithstanding.

I am in my saloon listening to the story and the way he tells it is great i could listen to him for hours.. thanks a great interview...
He is the best storyteller! Thanks for watching, Colin!
I really enjoyed listening to Captain Fatty's stories. Thank you Delos for putting this together, I'm sure you will never forget meeting this gentleman.
FresherDenamug That is for sure, my friend. It was an incredible experience.
Sailing SV Delos thanks for the reply, I love you guys and this is my favorite channel on RUclips. Thanks for sharing your amazing adventures with all of us!

Fatty and his wife are true legends. Glad to see the Delos Tribe paying respect, they've earned it.
Thank you brother! We feel the same!

The best interview ever! Capt Fatty can tell a story better than anyone. Thank you for having him on your blog.
Great video series and very cool how you saw his boat on AIS and contacted him.
Finding out Sabine was killed on the boat and Jurgen was recently beheaded causes a moment of silence.
Good storyteller -- a cooler full of beer and a night on deck to hear more of his stories would be fantastic.
His stories were incredible. A beer is always good too listening to them!
what a great interview. I have just bought Captain Fatty's book for my partner who avoids computers but loves reading, so he can get a glimpse of this legend. Woke up in the middle of night to go to the bathroom and ended up watching this whole video series...lol! Great interview, what an interesting life.
This series was so inspiring, to go back to good ol hard work and the strength of the human spirit, made even more poignant with the wind noises in the background. Well done Delos fam! What a treasure Fatty Goodman is!
What an incredible 6 part series of interviews. Wow.
what a crazy story! Really loved this interview series. thanks guys.

What an incredible 6 part interview. So sad to see it end on such a dark note. RIP Sabine.
What a wonderful interview. Such wisdom. Something y'all will always remember and treasure. Thank you for sharing. Much love and safe voyage. ❤
Where's the wisdom supposed to be?
my 3 biggest fears would be sinking...not knowing where the hell i was...and pirates, not necessarily in that order.

Yeah, I just looked that up, not a nice story.

With all of Cap'n Fatty's experiences, man... he can write books that can fill a whole Library. Thanks for sharing #SVDelos.
Thanks for watching, buddy! He really could! It was amazing to listen to him.
My grandfather told stories... every time he told the same one which was often, it was always different and quite embellished.
That was great! Thanks for all you do guys.
Love the final comment in this series. Thanks guys!!
Awsome set of videos, amazing stories thanks for sharing
Great series. I love the resurrection of the into graphics.
Unfortunately Jurgen didn't learn from this experience and sailed into part of Philippines where Abu Sayaf had an active presence.
We find the world as it is, not the way we wish it to be. Sabine suffered the worst during their captivity and refused to give in to the same experience in the Philippines.
This is a good life lesson. Dont be a stubborn ass, your wife will pay the price. And don't go into areas with pirates.
better be stubborn then pus*y
Awesome vids of a great storyteller THIS ONE HAS THE MAKINGS OF A MOVIE

Best Video in ages. So moving
Great watch, what an awesome couple. Thought I was inspired by Delos.

Such a deeply saddening story. Incredible, for sure... but on the fence about whether I'm glad I heard it.
wow , what a great video series
Hey Fatty - Great videos!
Am planning my 3rd cruise; every 20 years I just can't stay away.
Mitch in Annapolis
Hey Delos: I seem to recall you referring to this Jurgen fellow in a previous episode. Yes? Which episode number was it?
I'm picturing this as a Werner Herzog feature, what a story!
