    In fact, there is manual gear shifting. You can switch to the gear shifting mode by pressing and holding the shift button for a while. However, not many reviews seem to mention this.

    • @GearboxCarReviews
      @GearboxCarReviews  3 месяца назад

      Thank you for mentioning this! I'm glad you said something. That thought had crossed my mind, but I completely spaced on testing it out. It still seems like a bit of an awkward way to shift though. I hope they add the paddles in for ease of use.

      That's not the real deal. Nothing beats a clutch pedal.

    • @GearboxCarReviews

      I don't think it was an auto vs manual comment. It was just a comment about how you can still shift even in the regular 2 door that doesn't have the paddles.

      Nice! I’m considering between C and S with JCW trim. But I’m afraid in S the suspension is more rough so I might go with C. Or do you think they are the same in terms of suspension ?

    • @thanasisbert564
      @thanasisbert564 2 месяца назад

      @jpillow2366 I think that is the same when you have the jcw cause it gives you the adaptive suspension. I am very satisfied with the C but if you're not sure, I suggest you to drive both in order to have a better point of view

    What a damn shame that there is no manual transmission option. Small fun cars are way more fun with that option.

      Yeah, I was super bummed that they dropped the manual in this one. These things are so fun with the 6-speed.

      Most cars are ditching manual - it’s a way to add simplicity to the range of cars and costs. But also - nobody is gearing up in an electric car and this will help in the transition.

    A really good review.
    The Android Auto connectivity issue you experienced isn't normal.
    My F66 is rock-solid on connectivity… I wonder if that specific car needed an OS update - and/or your phone? Did you try a second device?
    I avoided the sport model (here in the UK) because I find the standard suspension to be 'sporty' enough.

    • @GearboxCarReviews
      @GearboxCarReviews  3 месяца назад

      Thank you 🙌
      I did check for an OS update and it was using the latest version. I didn't try a different phone, but I've been using my phone on other vehicles before and since without issue. And when I looked up the problem, I found Countryman owners reporting similar issues. Hopefully it's more the exception than the standard, as it was quite frustrating. Glad to hear yours is working much more reliability!
      Congrats on the car! Enjoy!

      Cheers!
      I wonder if the connectivity issue you (and others) are encountering has been reported back to the MINI Connected software team?
      I had a small issue with the MINI app… where it would stop recording journeys randomly. After speaking with the support group, I was told that it was a known issue… and to d/load the next app update as soon as it was released.
      This seems to have worked and, let's face it, we are now driving very powerful & complex computers!!
      Good luck with your channel… I've now watched a couple of your other videos, and I enjoy this style of content.

    I wish they cleaned up the front more like on the new gen EV version. The regular trim on F66 with body colored grille divider looks better than the gaping maw of the JCW package shown here which is too close to the ugly looks of the F56.

  • @andrewle9289
    @andrewle9289 3 месяца назад

    Nice review. How did your test car have the JCW exterior package on the 2-door? Did MINIUSA indicate that it is coming to the US as an option?

    • @GearboxCarReviews
      @GearboxCarReviews  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks! Essentially, it sounds like MINI had a few built before the product planners decided not to offer it here. There aren't any current plans to bring it to the US, but since there are a handful of media vehicles around the country with the package, they're going to see if there's outcry for it and maybe reevaluate then. Also, once these are through with the press, I think they're going to end up on the market as CPO vehicles.

    • @andrewle9289
      @andrewle9289 3 месяца назад

      Ok that makes sense. So between this new S and the VW GTI DSG, which one is more fun in terms of driving dynamics?

    • @GearboxCarReviews
      @GearboxCarReviews  3 месяца назад

      The MINI is more fun. It's more compact and more playful. The GTI rides better and is a bit more composed, so it's better as a daily and it's better space-wise, but the MINI is definitely more fun on spirited drives. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the lack of paddles. You can supposedly use the little shifter nub to switch gears, but hopefully they add paddles in sooner than later.

    Is there actually pops and bangs from the exhaust or is it all fake? I had a 2015 Mini Cooper S and the exhaust pops and bangs were real. Of course there were fake sounds too but i got used to it. I have a bmw suv now and it's so quiet compared to a Mini.

    • @GearboxCarReviews

      As far as I could tell the exhaust made real pops and bangs. There's probably something being pumped into the cabin as well, but there are real exhaust tips as well

    Did that review car have the standard suspension or the DCC adaptive suspension?

    • @GearboxCarReviews
      @GearboxCarReviews  3 месяца назад +1

      DCC, but it was still fairly stiff

    • @pliesj
      @pliesj 3 месяца назад

      @@GearboxCarReviews I am considering buying a Cooper S and wanted a reasonably compliant suspension. I test drove a car with the standard suspension and it seemed to be okay. So, I thought the DCC would be even better. But interestingly, your comment suggests that the DCC, while perhaps adaptive, is nevertheless stiffer than the stock suspension, which would rule it out for me.

    • @GearboxCarReviews
      @GearboxCarReviews  3 месяца назад +1

      I can't imagine it's stiffer than the stock suspension, at least outside of go-kart mode. Maybe my definition of stiff is misaligned with yours or maybe it's just because the roads here suck, ha. But I haven't driven the standard suspension one to compare. I would definitely try to find one with the adaptive shocks if you can before ruling it out entirely.

    The front is still cramp, so any small fix will need to drop engine and pull out lots and lots and lots of plastic parts....does look very expensive to maintain when it gets slightly older when all the plastic harden and crack and rubber seals need replacement.

    The 17 inch wheels look horrible. I had a 2015 and the 17 inch rims looked way better. 1200 for the jcw body kit is definitely worth it. The standard model front bumper looks too plain.

      @GearboxCarReviews  2 месяца назад

      Yeah, I like the body kit. It's too bad you can't actually option it in the US, like you can in other parts of the world. I kind of wish it didn't say JCW though, but just had the trim pieces and seats and wheels and such, but without the badge.

    The should have concentrated on making the 2022 model fit for 2025 with a better interior and a better more powerful engine. Instead they have made a mess of it. The new Mini rear is not good at all.

    As a 2023 MINI S owner, I am extremely disappointed with this new 2025 Cooper. No manual transmission, the dual rear exhaust is gone, side Mini S badges are gone, the hood scoop is gone, the beautiful Union Jack rear tale lights are gone, the interior toggle switches are gone, the hidden arm rest phone charger is gone, and the new cloth dash is hideous. Sorry MINI, your design team needs to be fired! My next MINI will be a low mileage 2024 JCW manual in Rebel Green ... woo hoo!!!

    • @GearboxCarReviews
      @GearboxCarReviews  3 месяца назад

      A starting price of $32k, when the average new car transaction is somewhere around $48k, it's affordable compared to the rest of the new car market and much cheaper than other hot hatches on the market. I agree it's not necessarily affordable according to average incomes or compared to a base Civic or Corolla, but compared to what it competes with and to the market in general at the moment.

    The new Mini interior looks like a cheap appliance one purchases in the home goods department at Walmart. And the taillights are a bad joke. I went to the dealer to order a new Mini for my family, and when I saw the soulless, tone deaf design, I walked right out. I’m hanging on to my 2022 S - with a real manual transmission. And looking elsewhere.

    A Honda Civic hatch will match the 0-60 w/ 47mpg combined. for 5-10k less. My desire for the Cooper S is waning. Scratchy door fabric, hard rubber armrests that don't move, lack of good interior storage space, no JCW pkg, center console storage a joke, no side sun visors .. huh? and all close to 40k for loaded spec. GTI's faster, 4 doors, same tech and Euro driving style. Where's the value proposition? I guess in the funk, and style.

    • @GearboxCarReviews
      @GearboxCarReviews  3 месяца назад +2

      Honestly, none of those things bothered me, but I get what you're saying. MINI has sort of always been the quirky alt choice. It's more fun than the other cars you mentioned, but in every other way, the Civic or GTI make more sense. You buy a Civic with your head, you buy a MINI with your heart.

      @@GearboxCarReviews Appreciate your opinion. I also drove it and really liked it. For 40k, you're also approaching Golf R $

    • @GearboxCarReviews
      @GearboxCarReviews  3 месяца назад

      I can see where some people might make that stretch, but a Golf R is $47k now, so $7k is a pretty big stretch. You're definitely in GTI Autobahn territory, and GR Corolla. I think cases can be made for all of them, depending on personal preferences, use, and driving style.
