Even a leapord turns into cheetah when chased by a lioness Because of high adrenaline rush ..those cubs don't have any idea..just push the body way beyond their limit like just flight vs fight ... here it is in flight mode ..
The elephants were letting the lions know, in no uncertain terms, that they will not be fucked with and have no fear of the apex predators. This reminds me of the way humpback whales respond to orcas when orcas try to attack a humpback calf or other type of whale. They form groups of 2-3 fully-grown males and aggressively charge at the orcas, initiating a fight if the orcas don't retreat. Normally, however, the orcas tend to flee rather than fight, knowing that an adult humpback is more than capable of inflicting serious injury or death to members of the orca pod because of their sheer size and definitive strength/power advantage, as well as the general lack of fear or respect humpbacks give orcas because of this advantage. Lions are apex predators of their ecological niche just like orcas are, but even they understand that a few fully-grown elephants charging straight at them is when it's time to run like hell. Massive creatures that can stomp lions to death with ease intimidates even the fiercest of these murderous jungle cats. It's amazing how nature works like this sometimes, and I always root for the elephants or humpbacks in these situations. I like seeing a good self-defense or underdog story that ends with the defeat of the usual king dick predator.

*am, as I myself *am . . (not "is") As to the video, it's clear the lions didn't believe their cubs were in any danger, as the lions didn't hang back to protect their cubs. The elephant slowed down for the cubs, the elephant had no interest in hurting those lion cubs; the elephant simply wanted the lions to leave the area, in protection of their elephant calves.
The lions can't get to those calves if the adult elephants make a tight circle with the calves on the inside. Grown elephants need little sleep, and usually (in the Wild) get that 2 hours of sleep standing up, in what we would call "cat naps", dozing lightly. When one lays down to sleep, as calves do, they are attentively guarded by their adult family members standing over them. In this way, they are like wild horses, who also need little sleep and sleep standing up dozing, who also stand guard over each other. I believe a Mustang foal would be at greater Cougar risk than an Elephant calf because of Lions. Horses can kill a Cougar with a swift, deadly kick, but Elephants have more defenses. On the offset, Cougars are usually lone hunters, while Lions usually hunt as a pride. Horses have better night vision than Elephants. Each has various advantages that seem to even out.
In terms of size, teenage elephants look more like adults, just as with humans, though a teenage African elephant's tusks would not be as long as those of age 25+. What we saw in this video were a lot of pre-adolescent elephants, 4, 5, 6 years old. Elephants live as long as people, and have similar growth stages. So this video showed "baby" elephants (under 2 years old, still milk-dependent), and older calves that in human vernacular would be like "children."

elephants are natures way of telling us that predators are the weakest animals out there. lion can only survive hidden in the grass while elephants stand tall and proud, knowing nothing can hurt them when they stand together.
The main reason why Lions don't hunt Elephants is because of how big they are and how thick their hide is. it would take the whole pride to take down an Adult Elephant because just 1 Lion wouldn't be able to penetrate the Elephants hide.. Even a whole pride of Lions still may not be able to penetrate the Elephants hide because an Elephants hide is extremely thick. A baby Elephant would be easier but the baby Elephant still has a thick hide like all Elephants do but their easier to hunt because their not as big. But still Lions don't take the chance of hunting Elephants because of how big they are and they know how it feels to be charged by one.

Don't mistake the gentleness they reserve for those who earn it with their straight boss bad ass owning of any predator that attempts to take them on though. The one in the very front by the way was a Mama Elephant, and if you look closely, there are several babies so they were ready for battle. Elephants will ALWAYS win - they don't **** around. Still, you can see the Elephants were never going to hurt or kill the baby lion cubs, they simply were chasing them away, including the older ones it seems. If however an elephant had jumped on an Ele baby, was on his back and actively biting and hurting him, then an Elephant of course would up the anti and do whatever it had to do to kill the lion to save the baby. Elephants can deduce the actual threat level and send a STRONG MESSAGE without having to hurt anything. Clearly, the lions got the picture.
Notice that the adult lions don't hang back to protect their cubs; the fully grown lions aren't sprinting either, just loping along, seeing as the elephant can only run so fast. The lions must know that their cubs aren't really in any danger, that the elephant just wants them to leave.
