I have *Inaudible speech* to work out. Are we clear?" After that, the scene where Arthur imagined kicking his boss follows.
It breaks my heart watching this scene because when Randall makes fun of Gary for his size, Arthur has a laughing fit and then immediately goes stone-faced, showing that he is the only one who cares about Gary and vice versa. (As seen later on)
I can relate to Arthur. So many people are out for themselves and are selfish beyond belief, they don't care about the consequences of their actions until some of us decide to bite them back, then we get the blame. Egotistical oxygen wasters deserve everything they get.
This is identical to the breadth of a comment I made elsewhere in this video thread. I believe we understand the character, and others like him. If you bite back, make them feel it and think twice about doing it again.
That’s complete bullshit. “Didn’t take any themes from previous jokers” even though the entire story ends with Bruce Wayne’s parents dying due to something that the joker had connection to. The movie is about the joker, and almost every form. To say it isn’t connected to ledgers joker is absolutely retarded. I think the reason why ledger is less insane than Phoenix and more calculated and strategic is because in that movie he aged a lot more than this movie. This takes it to a different level, and means that he has matured, and is making attempts to rid the world of what made him who he is, which is the goal of ledgers joker.
Cowboy Dan and wtf does the second paragraph have anything to do here? We’re talking about the score. Go look up her interviews, don’t come up all feisty in here talking bs.
This movie is written so well, that you literally forget at times that it is about The Joker, a comic book villain. This movie just resonates as an excellent work of fictional writing about a believable character named Arthur. Also look at the smile at 3:18, you can see that Arthur is nearing his breaking point, he is already starting to lose it.
maybe because it's not really about the comic book villain, The Joker, but an alternative story assigned to a villain as a backstory to try to give a harrowing lesson.
@@captainbmo6629 If you read some of the better comics/graphic novels, you will see this is in the same vein as them. It's just a better written version that rings more true to human psychology and life.
3:16 _"The other guys, they don't feel comfortable around you, because people think you're weird."_ No other sentence describes my school days so well.
2:45 The writing in this scene is so spot on from "I got jumped" "That's bullshit that doesn't even make sense" to "why would I keep his sign" "how the fuck do I know why does anybody do anything" is so damn clever, it shows the complete lack of compassion and how people's views are so self interested yet you can't really blame the guy he's just trying to make a living
I think when Joker laughs at Randall’s joke and then immediately stops later is a sign of a mental problem, it makes sense since Joker has had years of abuse. I also think joker was mad towards the end because even though he got jumped, his boss still cares about the sign and doesn’t care about Arthur, this furthermore makes Arthur feel alone in the world and thinks no one cares about him, this along with the other stuff slowly makes him loose his mind as the movie progresses. During the Murray scene, there is a few hard hitting lines said by Arthur, I think the one that most fits this current scene is “No one knows how it feels to be the other guy”. His boss doesn’t know how Joker is feeling, the years of abuse and sadness he faces because of his current life situation and the fact he’s working class, and now his boss being angry with him over a sign, Joker was jumped, it wasn’t his fault, but his boss doesn’t care. The last few scenes of this movie shows Joker on the police car while a crowd of joker masked people masses around him. I think this symbolises that Joker is superior, that he is a king to the people around him because he United them. All the working class people who have hard life’s because of the rich and everyone that is looked down upon in society, like Joker. Joker was the symbol of unity for these people.
"It was just a bunch of kids, I should've left it alone." "No, they'll take everything from you if you do that." Yeah and besides, them being kids is still no excuse for what they did to Arthur.
CYSYS8993 they were not kids! Even if they were, it is a bad sign, because children who enjoy beating people up ( in this case without any reason ) later they become criminal adults.
throughout this whole film not a single person actually listens to him, not his mother about what his laugh really meant, not his doctor about how he was doing, not his boss about his work conditions, randall about him not being allowed a gun, and not the people on the train about his disorder. at the root of it all, all he wanted was to be listened to. the only people in his whole life who ever listened to him were the protestors. its no wonder he ended up the way he did. he didn't necessarily need a hug, he needed to be listened to.
Sometimes you smile in disbelief, when you're angry and stressed about how is life treating you. He explained his boss what happened and yet his boss is blaming him. That is most likely what he was thinking at that time.
The boss says it doesn’t make sense when he hears that the thieves would take Arthur’s sign but when Arthur says that it doesn’t make sense for him to keep it, the boss says he doesn’t know why anyone would do anything. That directly goes against his first statement and shows that he automatically assumes Arthur stole it. That is when that grin starts forming on his face.
I can relate to this Joker so much. I’m a bit different than other people around my age (21). I don’t have any illnesses, but I don’t follow trends, I don’t drink, i don’t really like to go out, and I don’t have social media. People treat me like crap just because I don’t have/do those things.
if you're purposely straying from the mainstream to be counter to it you're just a slave to it like anyone else. People treat you like crap because you isolate yourself and let nobody near you. You'll understand this one day.

“Don’t sit. . This will be quick.” Continues to destroy the dude for the next 5 minutes
If anyone was wondering what his boss said here's what it was:
"If you don't return the sign, I gotta take it outta your paycheck. Are we clear? Listen, I'm trying to help you, k? Now I'll tell you something else. The other guys, they don't feel comfortable around you, Arthur, cause people think you're weird, ok? And I can't have that around you. I have *Inaudible speech* to work out. Are we clear?"
After that, the scene where Arthur imagined kicking his boss follows.
In the script it's legs..But the boss would be a good guess..
Thank you I never heard the whole things while watching because I was lost in Arthur’s priceless stare

The way he says "why would I keep the sign" is honestly heatbreaking.
It breaks my heart watching this scene because when Randall makes fun of Gary for his size, Arthur has a laughing fit and then immediately goes stone-faced, showing that he is the only one who cares about Gary and vice versa. (As seen later on)
1:58 The Laugh itself deserved an Oscar
Crazy how mean people can be to someone. Goes to show you never know what another person is going through
Joker went from “We’re not supposed to have a gun” to killing someone on live tv. He had nothing to lose by that point
If your boss starts off the convo with "I like you" that means your about to get bitched at in the coldest way possible.
Phoenix's acting is top notch in this, my god
That slow forming "smile" gives me chills..
Superb acting by Joaquin ❤️
The last scene is absolutely stunning ❤❤❤
If his boss claims he likes him, he's got a funny way of showing it.
I relate to this so much. Man I hope we can both get good therapy. I don’t want to go to prison.
Them is us and you are them for another, where are we now?
Lol you get what you fkn deserve

The laughter he throws when he exits the locker room and suddenly stops is one of my favourite parts in this movie
The way he just stops laughing all of a sudden is unnerving
Joaquin Phoenix deserved an Oscar for that laugh alone @ 1:58
3:16 why does this feel like a heath ledger easter egg (listen to the music)
yeah that sounds so much like heath ledger's joker's theme
Fucking scary, I know that
StrongAdel nah not really, hildur said she didn’t take any inspiration from past joker themes, so it’s not.
I don't think Joker is a well written film at all.
maybe because it's not really about the comic book villain, The Joker, but an alternative story assigned to a villain as a backstory to try to give a harrowing lesson.
@@captainbmo6629 If you read some of the better comics/graphic novels, you will see this is in the same vein as them. It's just a better written version that rings more true to human psychology and life.
''Why would people jump you for a sign?''
''I don't know boss. Why does anyone do anything?''
Now this is a masterclass of acting

_"The other guys, they don't feel comfortable around you, because people think you're weird."_

Lol
Feel ya man
3:10-3:30 my reaction when my mom tell me that she sold my console for a new phone
So you kicked her to death in the garbage? 😂
Im dying 😭😭
So he believes that Arthur would keep the sign but he doesn’t believe that a gang of teenagers would jump a clown and steal and destroy the sign? Wow.
This film and THE BATMAN are just what DC needed. Less ridiculous comedy, more gritty and disturbing scenes.
Sure, that is right.
You can tell he's daydreaming again when his face turns into that same smile he had when picturing himself on the tv show.
3:02 the most extremely intense and underrated moment of the movie
"It was just a bunch of kids, I should've left it alone."
"No, they'll take everything from you if you do that."
Yeah and besides, them being kids is still no excuse for what they did to Arthur.
CYSYS8993 they were not kids! Even if they were, it is a bad sign, because children who enjoy beating people up ( in this case without any reason ) later they become criminal adults.
@@nadiabarati6899 Well they weren't adults either. Teenagers are technically still kids, just really old kids.
@@CYSYS8993 in some countries, teens at 16-17 are considered young adults (:
Plus they weren’t even kids lol, they were like 17-18
They are delinquents. Young criminals and thieves, and the like.
throughout this whole film not a single person actually listens to him, not his mother about what his laugh really meant, not his doctor about how he was doing, not his boss about his work conditions, randall about him not being allowed a gun, and not the people on the train about his disorder. at the root of it all, all he wanted was to be listened to. the only people in his whole life who ever listened to him were the protestors. its no wonder he ended up the way he did.
he didn't necessarily need a hug, he needed to be listened to.
Poor Arthur..😢💔
JOAQUIN PHOENIX ... The GENIUS🔥👏👏
People treated me the same way my whole life
It's his role that makes him unforgettable 👑
I don't know what Joaquin was thinking as he cracked that smile, but the man can absolutely act.
Sometimes you smile in disbelief, when you're angry and stressed about how is life treating you. He explained his boss what happened and yet his boss is blaming him. That is most likely what he was thinking at that time.
"Everybody plays the fool" song in the background is a nice, subtle undertone.
I wonder why he didn’t kill his former boss during the movie.
Imagine hearing that laugh down the hallway while ur in ur office
For the people that says “Joker is a movie that encourages violence”, what builds up to make Arthur do that violence.

Same here, fellow.

“Why would I keep the sign”
Phoenix is super dedicated to his roles. I love that. In Gladiator to get that mean look he would go into a closet in the dark and hit himself repeatedly until he got angry, then he would go on set
When he is all scrunched up there at the end looking at the passing trains..he seems like a lost little boy. It breaks my heart
