Battle Group Kallides was the first sent to investigate the worrying Silent Zone, only to be immediately set upon by its Necron custodians. Unable to evacuate through the doldrums of the Nexus-stilled warp, the Imperial Fists instead sought a way to request aid from the wider Imperium. Their gambit has paid off, and reinforcements are inbound - including Battlegroup Hephaestus, composed primarily of a large Adeptus Mechanicus fleet led by the Archmagos Belisarius Cawl. Perhaps predictably, rescue plans have taken a low priority in Cawl’s stack of tasks. His cogitators are instead dominated by schemes for acquiring and processing vast quantities of noctilith - better known as blackstone - to manufacture his new liminal abraisers. These devices, he believes, will allow his fleets to precisely modulate the energies of the warp - grinding away at the strange xenos-crafted field dominating the Pariah Nexus.
Unbeknownst to the self-proclaimed greatest mind of Mars, the Necrons have become embroiled in a civil war. Dynasties loyal to the Silent King are locked in combat with those who have aligned themselves with Imotekh the Stormlord - who has denounced the authority of the mute monarch.

@@sirpieman300 Right? People wank the War in Heaven stuff so hard, but we know how powerful the necrons were back then: exactly as powerful as they are now! All the necrons coming back online are veterans of the War in Heaven, the only difference is that there's less of them, and as far as I can tell, the biggest thing the necrons had going for them was their numbers. Think about it, the necrons lost over half their forced shattering the C'tan, and that still leaves them with enough that if they all wok up they would potentially match the population of the Imperium. This, combined with the fact that these veterans of the War in Heaven regularly have pretty even matches against modern 40k armies paints a pretty clear picture that the necrons were the original horde army. From this, we can deduce that the rest of the old factions were really not that crazy in terms of power, just in terms of population numbers.
Necrons still have trouble fighting the orks, because despite having less advanced technology, the orks have the same mindset of the krorks and make up for the tech and intelligence loss by being the ones with the numbers advantage this time. On a side-note, just the fact that regular Guardsmen can fight a necron force and put up any kind of resistance and Space Marines can duel necron elites on even ground kind of debunks the idea that krorks were all Primarch tier monsters, because if they were, just fielding a few dozen of them would have won any ground battle against the necrons, yet that clearly didn't happen.
Eldar are a bit more complicated, since their tech actually improved AFTER the War in Heaven, and they still have access to most of it, but their numbers dwindled. They can't use their psychic powers freely anymore, and they can't field Avatars left and right, but their vehicles, weapons and training should be a fair bit better. I imagine eldar back in the day would have been like Imperial Guard Primaris Psykers, except fielded in numbers like the regular Guard, while current eldar are more like a cross between Assassins and Space Marines.
Meanwhile, Dark Age humanity had nearly as much mastery over both science and warpcraft as both the necrons and the eldar, and melded those two branches of development perfectly. What's that? You necrons need a C'tan to yeet someone back in time? That comes as a standard feature on our star ships. Oh? The orks are being annoying picking fights with you? Huh, we don't have that problem because we kill them all so quickly and completely that they don't have fun, hell we don't even give 'em time to leave any spores behind. The eldar need to make special protected tunnels to travel through the warp? Again, standard feature of our star ships, with no need for a fancy guide or psychic abilities to find our way because the navigational computer can map the best route through the constantly shifting currents of the warp in real time.

Regarding the faith shenanigans, End and the Death Volume 3 might have given a hint to it. To avoid too many spoilers, a particular psychic action is achieved by having a bunch of regular humans focusing on a very specific concept in a similar way. Said action wasn't possible for the somewhat powerful psykers trying to do it beforehand. It could be that synchronous, co-operative thoughts and feelings have a greater impact in the warp. In this case, the shared zealous faith in the Emperor helps to stave off the psychic dampening from the pylons.

I see the difference between Tzeentch and Vashtorr, vis a vis Big Plans, as this: Vashtorr has an outcome he's building towards, because he wants to get results. Tzeentch just plans for the sake of plans, that are all deliberately set to smash into one another. Tzeentch does five-car pileups for plans, because the schemes themselves, and the change they bring, are the point of the exercise.
That's why Vashtorr seems to have more success in his plans. He's actually trying to succeed. For Tzeentch, the fact the plans were set in motion is success enough.

Faith is not a psyker power, just like plenty of daemonic sorcery rituals are not psyker powers. Invoking the aid of a powerful warp entity does not require being a psyker, but the power ultimately does come from the warp. Big E has to beam the power to the Sisters through the warp, using their faith as a beacon to know who to give that power to. In a similar way, if a bunch of cultist, who are not psykers, do a big sacrifice to get some boons from a Chaos god, the gods use the flood of tortured souls as a beacon to know who to juice up.

I remember learning that Rogal Dorn had a slight anathema to psychic effects because of how much of a brick wall his mind is. Maybe the sisters and the faithful in general are more resilient here because, despite the emperor's connection to the warp, Faith is a strong tool for keeping someone's soul more closely focused onto the person's body. Maybe chaos hates it when people's souls are too strongly attached to the material realm and thats why it affects it like that.

Like, psychic powers don't work since it's just so much harder to pull out the energy from the Warp to do so and voidships have troubles because transition to and from realspace costs much more power. I think the reason the sisters and Admech can be used in this situation is because they are believing so hard in something that's not the chaos gods that they are weaponizing their own ignorance and manifesting their own god in the warp which gives them power. We've already seen the same thing with Slenesh, enough belief in something or someone can make or strengthen a God. So, it's possible that the reason the emperor was so powerful was because of their insane Faith in the God Emperor and the Omnisia and it created a feedback loop in time to give him his power in the 30k like how Slenesh has always existed even though she appaired in a specific point in time.

My guess as to the reason for why faith is effective in the null zone, is that their faith is creating a small, weak pocket of warp presence, maybe localized to the person or very close around them.
Warp is created by sentient biologics, so it stands to reason that you might be able to effectively overwhelm the warp absorber field in a very localized space, just enough to mitigate the worst effects.
Though, by that reasoning, the asteopaths should have been fine; but that may just be astropaths getting shafted, again, because they are 40k's punching bags. It is amazing there even are any, with how many get pulled out ofmthe gene pool.

I think I get how faith helps vs null space. What the necrons are doing directly impacts the warp and causes psychers to die, but it indirectly hurts desire. Everything that stays here too long lacks a why to keep trying. It inflects depression on them. People with strong faith have a stronger reason to keep going and allows them to keep acting even if it is in a diminished faction. Now miracles of faith still working is a bit of a plot hole, but maybe it is not real and just examples of luck instead of intervention.
