Mercenary contracts and olive oil is like embassy contract and export from AOE3 Asian Dynasties. Likewise, building mercenary house on neutral market is just like trading post on the site producing native warriors in aoe3. Love seeing good game mechanics salvaged for 4
@@henrifortier8621 and I also love that that's just part of 1 civ, so if I don't like the mechanic or it overwhelms me, I can just pick another civ. Think that's really cool =)

I still hope to see Portugal, Spain, USA in the game, the game promises to evolve a lot, I remember at the beginning of Age IV, it was criticized for being too cartoony, with each new update the game proved to be more mature and less colorful, we hope they continue improving the graphics of this game, for me this Age Of Emperies is the best of all.
You can use the oil to sell on market fast and get a ridiculously fast castle, Winery first, drop market as soon as it finish, sell all your oil and place the next landmark right away, pump out heavy infantry or cataphracts with monks healing and mercenaries once in castle.
As a greek iam happy that they speak greek….like in aom game….hehe nice gameplay 🎉🎉 💪💪 if they change to aoe2 the same will be better. There are italians romans and Sicilians to speak dialect of latin !!! Keep nice content you are the best
Great. Unfortunately I can't play that much so i will stay probably with japanes or order of the Dragon. Your video helps a lot to.understand this civ and to develop a gameplan against them
Grand Winery very overpowered, 100%food and 80%olive oil (also effected bye farming effectiveness) * 1.17 water bonus * 1.3 final landmark unit production. Limitanei very good in 4v4, allow infinite unit production without trade, since only 10wood costs
the greek fire rams units are actually extremely good for destroying big buildings, like keeps and TC's, if you catch you're opponent off guard. I love them!
I've been playing Byzantines for a while now. I believe they are strongest early on in the game. Late Feudal, to early castle. The Limitanei Spear Wall push, paired with archers and Keshik mercenaries is just unstoppable. You throw down a couple of fire rams too and you get yourself a win. I mean its very hard to counter and transitions well in early castle. Even when my opponent gets a few man at arms to fight my spear and bow combination, you got the keshiks to handle that early castle defence transition from your opponent. Later on in the game although Byz have good units and options, they are not as strong as in Feudal. The Byz are also very gold hungry. If your opponent starves you off gold you are in deep trouble. For example I never make cataphracts because they are soooo expensive, and die quite easily against crossbows. You cant get cataphracts and siege, you gotta choose, and you pick siege. Why make them? I get the free Keshik mercenaries anyway.
One thing more, this imperial trecuchet upgrade called "greece fire" provides 30% more damage to EVERY SINGEL F RANGE UNIT OR BUILDING, that mean your keep or outpost cannon deal 73 ->95 damage on full upgrade, mangonella 11 -> 14 (very OP with siege damage that ignore just armor) and arrow replacements deal 17 damage, also strelsy and cannoners are very op because thay deal 55 damage, elite longbow mans deal 19 and with arrow rain ability it's tottally clearing field from non knight or siege units, I don't test it with tower elephat but I think this elphats fasty crossbow mans can be big problem for others, it's so OP that I don't know it's real or just bug...
In my opinion it would be better if they left the berserkers and running out of ships for the vikings or something, this would fit perfectly into their raids. But man, these skills look AMAZING
Could be that they implement those same techs to a norse civ maybe. :) Would be cool if a viking civ has units that also construct ships (viking longships) that are a hybrid between transport- and attackships, which maybe could be transported over land and get raiding loot when attacking other ships. Also instead of speed maybe the units get an attack buff when they land. Can't wait either how :D
referencing the aqueducts being connected to stone walls. doesnt this aoe update also allow us to connect to allied stone walls?...?...? also curious if a wood wall can connect to a stone now?
Not sure if it's because of changes, but there several errors in the first two minutes already. Like, buildng stone generation isn't based on cost, but on the area of the building. And trading ships don't provide olive oil (unless they do an it's an UI bug)
Do the mercenary units receive their unique upgrades e.g. are French Mercenary Knights the value as say English Knights, or do they have the charge bonus, the extra health etc.?
gotta say: I love both Byzantines as well as Japanese. Not really sold on the variants though - especially Order of the dragon looks like its not good for the game.
I Wonder if the Scout ability to increase Fire damage... how well it would synergize with the Greek Fire Rams? From the one video I saw of them they are absolutely busted already with their ability to burn down enemy buildings... give them a 25% damage buff and it would be straight war crimes.
Bro, they added a beefy hero unit that never killed anyone in history and you are focusing on historical accuracies? Aoe4 has long dropped the ball in that department lmao
@@sirp7394 I'm saying like they could give it to the Rus. And also, idk why their lancers arent called druzhina 🤦🏼♂️ like don't get me wrong they've done a great job with the new civs, but man. The other civs like, lord do they need an upgrade. The original 8 I'm talking about.

Twitch chat takes are hilarious. "Yeah bro water on fire realism..😂" "Fr bro one of the mythical elements of Greek fire is that it burned even in water" Dude never seen an oil rig fire...and was afk for deep water horizon
So my main take away from this is that to play Byz just do whatever because your opponent has even less of an idea of what your are capable of.

Byzantine: Yes.

Those man at arms should have been kept for a future viking civ, i mean beserking plus building transport ship plus movement speed on landing ...
They are Vikings. Bysantines used viking troops in addition to all their other mercenaries.

Maybe, instead of olive oil, it should just be oil.
I don't think you can find many olives in the sea or in a lake or river.

Looks very fun!
Someone tell Jaysus04 of the twitch chat, to make him feel better, that Byzantines historically did employ bombard cannons and hand cannoneers.
And another unique thing about the civ.. *repeat infinitly*
Fun fact: Varangian guards are Vikings and yes they were really badass and feared in history.
Eh they where Saxons, Norse, and Rus. Not just Vikings.
personally I think they really didn't give the Byzantines enough complexity, its just all so simple!
Since Byzantines need a PhD to play, does that mean Beasty is just casually handing out free college courses?

Very good explanation of this race!
The new civs & branches are op and packed with unique units... Old civs are salty 😢
