  • We spent an afternoon at the Harlem 125th Street Station, which hosts a plethora of inbound and outbound trains into Grand Central Terminal. I had been wanting to see a New Haven style P32ACDM, and we got treated to two of them in about a two hour span! We also got some footage inside Grand Central, as well as a quick trip to Penn Station where we saw an NJ Transit train. Thanks for watching, and don't forget to subscribe!

    I'm very stressed person, but watching ur videos is so relaxing. Sometimes I do it right before I go to sleep and it helps me a lot. Honestly I don't know that much about trains but it looks very interesting to watch. Keep up the good work 👍

    12:09 I noticed another cab car in the middle of that train!
    13:59 nice catch of two trains 'racing' each other!
    I also liked seeing the P32s diesel prime movers revving up as they leave 125th street station!
    What i find odd about Metro-North's EMUs is that they are all 2-car units, but you don't see just a 2-car train. So why not just make them 3-car or 4-car units?

    great video, Florida Railfan, just wanted to let you know that Grand Central is not Grand Central Station but Grand Central Terminal as the tracks come into grand central and come to an end. In most cases a Station is used to describe a through station, where the tracks run through and past the station. A Terminal is considered a start and ending point for a trains journey, as I am sure you are aware. I just wanted to point that out to be helpful!

    How's the air quality down there at Grand Central? The ceilings seem very low (just like at many subway stations in NYC) but most of the trains there are diesel trains... also seems like it is a lot louder than what I'm used to with most trains being electric here.
    The above ground station you filmed at for most of the video, does ALL the traffic to an from Grand Central go through there, or is it just a part of it?

    • @FloridaRailfan
      @FloridaRailfan  3 года назад

      Don't remember anything specific about the air quality, although I'm sure there is some top notch filtration. As for the traffic. The Harlem Street Metro North Station sees the same train traffic, although there is much more subway traffic down in the actual station. You can see the metro north tracks duck underground in the video, that leads into Grand Central. There are dozens of subway platforms and about 8 for metro north in Grand Central

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 3 года назад

      @@FloridaRailfan thank you; Yeah I followed the tracks from Grand Central northbound and found the station, but I wasn't sure if there are further tracks in other directions besides the subway tracks. Being from Europe it's uncommon to see a large central station without a wide and long-stretched field of tracks in front of / on both sides of the station.
      Thus e.g. here there up to 37 parallel going tracks heading towards the central station here, and the field of tracks stretches for more than 3 miles before actually reaching the station

    Very good railfan video; I've done this myself it's great fun and non-stop action. Have one question not really pertaining to trains; do you have any idea what building that is that we see over and over in your video, look at 5:55 at the right side , grey brick and stone building. Love to know the address; as soon as this pandemic is over I plan to visit NYC and look this up.

    Stupid (?) question ... Electric (3rd rail) or all diesel engines . Some looks like diesel ( pertol) some looks like subway. Sorry Im not in the US but in France. For us electric = Top wires (execpt underground who is 3rd rail) thank you

    • @FloridaRailfan
      @FloridaRailfan  6 лет назад

      I'm not too familiar with the mechanics of the American electric operations myself, although the diesel locomotives are diesel powered when they're not in tunnels. When they enter tunnels, they switch over to the electric third rail as to not emit exhaust in the tunnel. Some of the subway looking trains are purely electric via the third rail, other subways, like the red ones, are diesel and electric and operate the same way the diesel locomotives operate in tunnels. This is what I've gathered myself, it could very well be all wrong. Maybe somebody with more knowledge will see this and chime in. Hope that helped!

    • @TheBruno6995
      @TheBruno6995 6 лет назад

      OK, Merci., thanks. In France for all major cities (Partis, Lyon, Marseilles ....) all trains are electics ones by wires (up) only metros are 3rd rail powered. (nearly) All cities have electric trains relationship, and many of them are High Speed(TGV) trains who go 200 Mp/h (500 miles = 3 hours)

    • @FloridaRailfan
      @FloridaRailfan  6 лет назад +1

    • @Rendar77

      Some trains have overhead wires. The northeast corridor between Boston and Washington is electric from above the whole way. These lines are 3rd rail in the city and only some are electrified the whole way. The locomotive pulled ones switch to diesel when the 3rd rail ends.
