- One of the highlights of the Conrail days was running the business trains. CR 4020 is former PRR unit. Thanks to road foreman J McDermott for allowing me to video. This was in 1997 from Collinwood to Buffalo, max speed of 79mph.
Conrail originally had their three (?) E8's in their beautiful Royal blue scheme, but this Army green is still classy.
This is a most enjoyable video. Thank you for sharing. When it ran from Albany to Boston, the Conrail train crews called it the "Crane Train." Gene [Gino] Martin, who many times drew the engineers assignment for the run, was a wonderful man who educated me about the finer points of railroading. God Bless your soul Gino. I miss you.
I remember the last CR train I ever photographed.
It was 2 CR E8s at Ansonia,Ohio. Just before the takeover.
West bound to Indy.
The only time btw, that I ever saw the E8s.==================Ironic.
Nice cab ride coverage
Beautiful 8's
Did road foreman McDermott later become Trainmaster in Massena NY ? If so then I worked with his son Jim and Jim's sons Josh and Jason.
Wow, nepotism. Go figure. It usually happens with high paying do nothing jobs.
I believe it was his father. He retired in 1987, passed in 2014. 46 year career. Last as trainmaster there.
