Informative for the full timer. Would love to have basic requirements for the as described “weekend warrior”. One of the harder to find things to find RUclips is travel trailer install requirements. I have mine completed but when someone ask me for information there’s no one good visual source.

High T&T from NW Oregon. We are heading to Az, for the winter, next week. The weather here is about to change to rains, mud, wind, cold. Time to head south.

We live in our RV, but we love to be off grid. We have spent the summer, in my in-laws farm. We have not been hooked up to power since July. We have 820w, on the roof, and a 140w portable panel. We also have 400ah of battery. In the south, it’s easy to get sun in The winter, but up here in the NW, it hard to get half of what I would get in the desert.

Be interested in a block diagram and why a part is needed -- such as the shunt. What is available for DIY?

Love the extended format. My request for Part 2, or maybe Part 3 would be; more nuts and bolts. Such as, disconnect switches, where should they be. And fuses, placement and size. Same with wire size. Info on DC to DC (wire size, fuses and switches?). And solar controller size. Thanks for this valuable information.

I getting ready to roll my own. Good info. I'm poor, I can't afford victron. It would be nice if you could do a video on victron alternatives. Yeah I know I won't get the million dollar system but... If all I can afford is the 8k system.
BTW I am retiring and intend to live in my rig. I'm looking at the school to do a new business inspecting and fixing rvs. Something to stay busy and make a little money. Maybe focusing on solar and generators. I was a computer tech in a past life.

would be very interested in knowing how he set up his generator to auto start when his batteries get low. When I had solar installed the auto gen start was lost because of how the lithium batteries voltage stays at a high level before dropping quickly. (I am sure I didn't explain that very well) Is it as simple as setting the gen to auto start when the batteries hit 13amps?

Hello!! We ended up with a project RV with no electricity and applience working. Since we are in need of starting fresh, we want to go solar and live the off grid life. Without any limitation. We need more guidance on how to start this journey. What exactly does each solar pannel mean? There are many forms of solar in ways to present it to the sun from mounted to portable. Does that create a difference? 100 watts to 200 watts? We understand the goal is more watts!!! What is the equation to solar pannels to battery bank? Can you please dumb it down into defining each category and using real examples how many you use of each and how long will they last? 30 amps Rv take 3600 watts. Does that mean you need 36 solar pannels & batteries of each if their 100 watts? Can you please show written examples explaining how to build your off grid Rv without having any limitations and what the average cost would be? For example, 30 amp rv Running AC all day in the heat of FL while wanting to cook with toaster ovens (1400watts). Please share your personal grid system! Also, where do you recommend putting this expensive investment safely secure without the risk of water damage! Thank you very much!! We are looking forward to learning more from you! We have your course and egar to save our Rv!!

I love this content, yes I would like to see a part 2. I am gathering as much info as I can. I have interest in running a class A 50 Amp with as little gen time as possible. What I learned was I can build the system just as I want but I thought I would need to start with the solar and it seem more about the battery bank.
Witch makes sense I mean I have a gentleman top off the bank.

I am looking to add solar and I enjoyed this video and definitely would like to see a Part 2. I have figured out my needs and it is not a total off grid system but enough for that day or two in between CGs. 600 watts of panels, 200 amps of batteries and 2000 watt inverter powering my GFI outlets should get me started…
Love you guys and keep these videos coming!!!

Not sure of the best place to ask a question... We were in a RV site that was enveloped in White Pine trees. My roof and awnings are a mess. What is your best method for removing pine sap? Thanks! Love your videos!!!

So I grew up on a Christmas tree farm and would have sap on my clothes from fresh cut trees. We found that shortening, aka Crisco would dissolve the sap on our hands and clothes, them needed Dawn dish soap to wash the shortening off. I have used the shortening on my floor when the darks spots appeared after camping in the pine forest and wash again with Dawn dish soap. Hope this works on your awning, maybe try a test spot.

I have a large solar set up, all victron. Why does my Dc toDc 30amp not giving the full 30mps. It would very. I have it hooked up to my second battery in my dully with the right wiring. I was told its cutting off due to heat. Bow i did place my old vent tube direct to it, so when driving air would blow over it but still under performing. What to do?

HiT&T, love both channels! I watched your winterize your RV video. My plumbing was changed to pex tubing. Do I still need to drain the lines? I also have tank warmer as I winter camp to ski and when I’m home I run the hot water heater on the lowest setting off shore power. Do I need to antifreeze?

Okay first great show. Next 12,24,48 volt system? Doesn’t this change watt hour usage?

    • @TechTipTNT
      @TechTipTNT  8 месяцев назад

So total watts supply does increase when you increase the supply (batteries) so a 12v 100 ah battery will have 1200 watts. A 48v 100 ah battery will have 4800 watts.
      Demand will remain the same.

I bought a 2022 Keystone Raptor with the 400 watt solar package but it didn’t come with the lithium batteries. I want to start upgrading this system but most likely most of what I have isn't going to help me with that is it? What are the pros/cons to jumping to a 24/36/48 volt system vs staying with 12? We do have the on-board generator for backup charging and I have the 2 large altenators on my F350 but still need to add the additional wiring to my Raptor for additional charging on travel days. We are planning a trip to Alaska/Canada next summer and don't want to have to depend on staying in rv parks every night since having A/C won't always be an issue and fans will be utilized moreso. What are your initial thoughts?

Can you power everything off 1 inverter or do you need 2 for a robust setup? In other words, does Victron make an inverter that can do the same as 2. Thanks

Awesome job. I learned a lot about sizing a system and what I need to consider. I am interested in the other components of the solar system, like solar controller, cut-off switches, information panels, etc. What does a shunt do is this system? Those are my recommendations. FYI, I plan to purchase an RV next year (retirement) and possibly install or upgrade a solar system. I would also like to design the system myself, instead of just opening my wallet REALLY big.

Honestly, I am retired. I don’t wan’t to try and maintain and huge system - life span…. Etc fixed income. I figure 600 ah of battery, get me through and run ags. Solar panels are cheap. I want help adapting the things I have not a new system. I’m thousand trails .. no matter how much solar I have, the bottleneck is my black tank, sometimes grey… fresh water over a week. Who do I call to upgrade and improve for needs. Like computers this stuff doesn’t last forever.

On my motorhome, I am chaining my current Progressive Dynamics Battery Isolation Manager (it's broken) to a Progressive Dynamics BIM compatible with Lithium batteries to protect my alternator. Going from an original model BIM to the Li-225 model. My question is, in my system do I still need a DC to DC Charger? Also, can you explain what is the best crimping method for the 4/0 battery lugs? Or would it be better to use the copper bars instead of the 4/0 cables? Thanks!
