  • How to film Jeeps and Off Road Vehicles. I want to make videos that are enjoyable to watch so I sat down and thought about my mistakes and how I can do better. These tips could be also be called all the mistakes I’ve made while filming Jeeps... If you’ve stumbled upon this video, I hope it’s helpful! Let me know if so. Next related videos in this series are 1) Taking Photos of your Off Roader (with Harrison from my In Search of Goats video) 2) Jeep Action Cam Mounting locations with test footage 3) Filming Off Road trips by yourself 4) Filming Off Road trips on a Budget (I’ve used my phone, an OLD GOPRO, and a cheap iPad to film and edit a majority of these videos). These tips will help you create videos that will look great shared on your Facebook or Instagram. Or possibly your Jeep Club’s pages. Also got some general off roading and Jeep centric videos in the pipeline for those of you that love off roading like I do, however, we will continue to cover adventures that you can do yourself!
    Next Trail Tuesdays (showing off Colorado videos) are 1) A return to Kelly Flats with a 2019 Cherokee 2) Snow Wheeling on the Ironclads with the 2019 Cherokee. Snow is taking over Colorado (which is a great time to show off Colorado) but I’m thinking a Moab trip for a few days will happen also. Also need to rebuild my Jeep for next wheeling season (it’s fine, but it’s been wheeled fairly hard for 7 years... I’m sure it’s time to replace some worn parts). I do have older footage of Colorado trails that I may put together while I rebuild, however I have some interesting ideas coming you may like.
    Thanks for watching!

    Great tips. I will try to use these tips so my videos aren't boring. I have been trying to Host my videos while telling a story and add different angles instead off pop the gopro on top of the truck and go.

    Hey Dewie. All good tips. Yeah, you'll have tons of great footage but people get bored too quickly; always leave them wanting a tiny bit more rather than getting bored.... Also watch your sound editing; if you're fading the video track your sound track is also fading and sometimes you still hear a few words of a sentence that you're cutting away from. You can drop the sound track level faster than the video fade out to stop that, so the sound dies away almost immediately if that's what you want. Love the low angle shots; they always make it look like you're driving over boulders....... Cheers fella, Ian

      Ian in London Yea, I will work on that, I’m new to the audio part of video making (use to slap a song on top of my b roll and call it a day!). I tried to cut out the fluff of my tips to keep it as short as possible, but I talked too fast to get the cut just right. Maybe I’ll try again and re-upload, we’ll see. Thanks again for the support!

      @@coloradomallcrawlers don't be reuploading..... The tips are clear enough mate! Just remember to drop the sound level when fading... Very minor but makes for a nicer end result 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers!

    Definitely some good advice and tips for sure. Shooting the video is only half the battle. Proper editing is the other half. Telling the story with the video footage itself, verses narration is also just as important. When using music, edit to the beats in the music. Helps both audio and visual transitions flow more smoothly. You have a good grip on the concepts, anxious to see more of Colorado.

      YASMAR Productions Thanks for watching! I’m just an off-roader that likes to shoot video, but I’m definitely not an expert. Luckily these were tips I picked up from others that have helped me. However, you’re so right about editing and everything else. Definitely my weakness. You added good advice and I’ll definitely check out yours for sure!

      Haha, it was fun to film! I’m going to work on your photography tips and Kelly Flats this week and I’ve expressed displeasure at Sennheiser about their memory mic 😂. Oh and if anyone reads the comments, Harrison is a rad photographer, check out his Instagram HarrySChris!

    Interesting video. I can relate. I make 4x4 videos in South Africa. Very valid points as I do it all on my own. Learning with each video. All cameras I have is 2 iphones and 3 gopros...

    It would be helpful for Tip 5 if you have some examples of how to show your location without a drone.

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  3 года назад +1

      Ok, well you can take a wide shot from the ground, or get up high and mimic a drone, get various shots of the trailhead signs, video the journey to the trail... that’s all I got for you at the moment.

    Dude! great tips! putting them into action is the hard part. being a one or two person crew really adds to the difficulty. i have to work on fleshing out the story getting those interviews. putting faces and personalities to the rigs. Notarubicon does an awesome job of this. im finding in the group runs, it is a ton of work , getting footage, spotting, driving whew makes for a busy day. i find i can hone my skills much easier when its just the two of us, but those skills have been a benefit on the group runs. i aspire to be more like "Action 4x4 and Ronnie Dahl, i like how they put people and rigs together. for us its been the package vids that do well, wheeling, making camp and the cook out. those perform very well for us, oh and of course there is the name trails and obstacles, that is good for long views too. but to work in others personalities into the mix has proven difficult for me. folks are cam shy, or just flip the bird and make faces when the cams on em lol

      Jeeping with Jenn & John Yea, there’s definitely a lot ways to make great videos... some of these are just based on how my original channel’s videos performed. I did a couple different things on them like pure trail footage, jeep club runs, and then some kinda like my videos here (without any of me tho... that’s definitely new). I never advertised those videos or shared them as they were just videos I uploaded to show my friends. I re-watched some of them and came up with some tips based on what I thought I could have and should have done better. I try to not judge other youtubers and keep the criticism to my own work.
      Yea, I agree, I film solo mostly, but filmed an incredible episode yesterday... but I definitely needed one more person as I can’t spot and film. The story stuff came from watching youtubers like Peter McKinnon who can talk about stuff I don’t care about, yet I’m on board (he’s so good but a Ford fan). I gotta check out notarubicon. Group runs worked for me because it was East coast wheeling and I could park and ride for the extreme stuff. Most of my pals are camera shy but I’m working on them... heck I’m working on that myself.

    How & where do you clamp & mount your cameras?

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  3 года назад

      speliotis depends on the situation. I’ve discovered, front bumper mount is good if I’m following vehicles. However, if it’s kicking up dust, then dash mount is the way to go. If solo trail guide, I like to mount up high so you can see the Jeep’s hood. However, solo adventures require a lot camera angle changes in my opinion and that’s something I’m bad at. Hope that helps and Good luck!
