Is there a way to apply borates before the build of a home? Wondering out of curiosity since I plan on eventually building my home and it termites was a thought that crossed my mind so wondering if applying for rates in the beginning could perhaps helping prevent it
Yes. This is actually a fairly common practice in some places. When a new build is in "sticks," borates can be applied to the bare wood to make it more resistant to termites and fungus-rot. The only reason it is not done more frequently in California is that most homes are mass built by large developers and adding borate pre-treats to the homes slows down the building process and adds to costs that developers aren't able to mark-up at the same rate as other more desirable upgrades such as tiles, paint, etc.
