    That's alot of smoke does the DPF prevent it. I had a 2004 VW Passat 2.0 and on heavy acceleration, it would smoke.

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  3 года назад

      Yes the diesel particulate filter catches this and turns it into ash. It actually gets stored in the diesel particulate filter, which eventually needs replaced because it gets filled up with ash.

    When you started it for the first time after doing all the deletes, did you get a SES light? was the car running in limp mode? Essentially what i’m asking is after i do my deletes, can i drive it to the tuner to get tuned or will I have to get it towed?

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  2 года назад +1

      You will get one startup after doing the deletes. When you shut it off and start it again it will set faults for not seeing the egr valve connected and go into limp mode. That being said you can clear the fault and start it again and all will be good until you turn it off and start it again. So yes you can drive it to get tuned. Just keep a small scan tool with you in case you need to stop and restart it.

    Hey Munky, thanks for all the videos it’s helped me do all this work to my car. Quick question on the spring clamp that holds the DPF to the turbo, should this be tightened until it stops or just until there is tension on the spring? Mine doesn’t feel like it’s getting any tighter so have stopped to er on the side of caution.

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  2 года назад

      They don't get tight like a normal bolt would because of the spring. Once the slack is taken out of it it will start to feel tight. But then it feels the same when you keep turning it. So don't over do it. Just a few turns once it starts to feel tight should be good.I have seen people break them because they over do it.

      Just want to clarify so there is no confusion. If you are talking about the dpf, which is right off the turbochargers, I used the one from VRSF. If you are referring to the scr cat down stream in the exhaust, behind the transmission, I have been cutting that one open and removing the catalyst material and then welding it back up.

    • @MunkysGarage

      You will need to eliminate the SCR cat if you remove the DPF because the metering valve for the exhaust fluid is eliminated when removing the DPF. This will cause issues with the SCR cat due to DEF not being sprayed into it.

      It took me around 7 hours to do everything. If you've never done it before it can easily be done in a weekend. If I were doing this to my own car I would use the catted downpipe as well. This was one of my co-workers cars. I have also done another co-workers car as well. Without the cat they soot up the back of the car like crazy and smell really bad of diesel when you are sitting still.

      Munky & Rooster's Garage ok cool. Yah I feel pretty comfortable to do the EGR delete and swirl flap delete. I’m definitely a bit apprehensive about the DPF delete along with the carbon cleaning. Do you know if the SCR cat needs to be deleted? Or can it be kept and doubling as a resonator?
      What tune do you run after deletes?

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  4 года назад +1

      @@Driven.ByVlad You can leave the scr cat in place if you would like. Both of my co-workers deleted it and it definitely made the exhaust a little louder. So leaving it would surely act as a resonator/muffler and keep the noise down. As far as the tuning process both of my co-workers took there car to a local shop that tuned them for the things being deleted. I'm sure there are some generic tunes you can get to load into the car. I always recommended having it tuned at a shop that has a dyno, as this is the best method for tuning properly.

    • @Driven.ByVlad
      @Driven.ByVlad 4 года назад +1

      Munky & Rooster's Garage ok, I’ll definitely try to drive it with it in place, I’ve read some people say it gets clogged and other say they run it 100% fine! So I might just cut it out and put a resonator in its place. oh yah, I 100% would prefer a tune like that too! I unfortunately don’t have any local tuners for m57’s. But Ryan from BBR is great, and he creates custom tunes for each customer even if they are remote. I’m
      Not sure where you are located, but Ryan is honestly one of the most knowledgeable tuners for this platform in the US.

    • @MunkysGarage
      @MunkysGarage  4 года назад

      @@Driven.ByVlad I have never seen the SCR cat actually clog up. I know they go bad in the higher mileage vehicles and set faults until they are replaced. The exhaust doesn't get crazy loud without it there. In the ones I have seen without the DPF or the SCR it is only slightly louder. The one thing you do get is a lot more turbo noise. Since you are going with a catted downpipe you may be ok to delete it and get a little more turbo noise without a super loud exhaust.

    • @slagletoby
      @slagletoby 4 года назад

      Yes true story. I’ve been getting a DPF engine light recently. I have Carly and ISTA+, I’ve been trying to figure out if my DPF is actually on its way out or not. It’s been successfully cycling regens about every 250 miles or so, my DPF exhaust pressure sensor seems to be working fine, fuel mileage is average at 18 city, 26 Hwy, 22 combined, power is good too. It totally unsure yet because it runs strong and seems healthy. I was thinking about pulling out the DPF and doing a reverse flush to make sure there’s no ash plugging the screen causing blockage. After regens it climbs back op to 30.7 Soot and 39 Ash after 100 miles. Could be on the fritz! I need to run some back pressure tests that’s the tell-all if it’s clogged or not.

    • @mikeg4347
      @mikeg4347 4 года назад

      slagletoby those numbers seem strange, also you’re MPG is terrible. I get 33mpg combined. Have you checked your coolant temperature? The thermostats go out on these and kill your MPG and affect the regens.

    • @slagletoby
      @slagletoby 4 года назад

      Mike B Thanks Mike I’ll keep trying to figure out what’s going on. According to what I’m reading online soot mass at 30g is within spec. I have recently seen 18g but that was about a month ago, I have also seen up to 40g a few months back. After regen my MPG’s go up but settle back down to factory spec 18 City/26 Highway after monitoring for 100+ miles. I see up to 31 MPG on flat ground going 50 MPH but that doesn’t count. This is an x5, not a 330d which it weight/wind load different.
      I did some basic maintenance yesterday checking things out with my Depsteck optical scope cam. I have a broken CCV hose, just ordered a new one from Tunemyearo.com, the broken CCV was blowing sooty air in the engine compartment and getting into the air box making my air filter very dirty. Cleaned K&N air filter and will replace CCV hose this weekend. Not sure if that has to do with anything, likely not. I’m going to run back pressure test today, I might have a bad Exhaust Pressure Sensor, check the 2 hoses with scope cam they look ok. I did check the coolant temp and it running consistently at 190 degrees which is in spec. Good thought on the coolant temp, that was one of my first observations. Thanks for the ideas...
