I'll definitely try this. I actually worked for a Global Hygiene company who produces Commercial cleaning chemicals. So one thing I can say is when it comes to reasonably clean glass, "less is more" to avoid the streaking and ideally spray product onto damp cloth, not directly onto glass as we tend to use too much. Now I absolutely love love love home made cleaners so thanks Elly, cant wait to try this. 😉

Thanks Jo! This worked well to clean the grimey glass at the bottom of the shower screen, but I agree, this is definitely not needed for general glass cleaning.

Castile and vinegar equals white film, I found this out on floor tiles, googled it and it explained the cause. It might be indeed miraculous on glass if commercial dishwasher liquid is used.

Thanks for that, it might be better without the soda, as your mixture is acidic, you'll probably neutralise it somewhat by adding alkaline soda to it.

Good afternoon Elly and fellow you-tubers!! I have the same recipe but with ordinary baking soda and it works just fine!! For heavy dirt e.g. the oven, I use washing soda with a teaspoon of liquid soap just so that I get a paste and I spread this in the oven for 1 hour at least and then I spray the paste with diluted white vinegar 3 cups water to 1 cup of vinegar and then I let it fizzle a bit for 15 minutes and then I wipe the oven with a dishcloth. It's very strong and it "cuts" through every kind of heavy dirt!! Have a nice day everyone!!

Great video as usual. I make my own cleaning spray too. I used to clean houses and used mostly home made cleaners. My spray is very similar to yours. With tweaks for different purposes. The eucalyptus is essential and it doesn't work anywhere near as well without it. It's the heavy duty degreaser in the spray. For ovens and greasier kitchen areas I increase the eucalyptus. For windows and glass I use water, eucalyptus, dishwashing liquid and metho to eliminate streaking.
Your videos were what got me started making soap. So easy to follow. I'm now totally hooked. Your kitchen/laundry soap and washing powder was a huge hit with all my friends and family. Can't wait till the next video. ❤

    This is my cleaner recipe:
    2 cups water
1 cup 99% isopropyl alcohol (you could probably use a 80 proof vodka)
    1/4 cup lemon juice
Essential oils of sweet orange, lavender and peppermint.

Home made cleaners all the way! Hi Elly, I've seen a lot of variations of this recipe on various media. I've been using one based on 1 cup water, 2/3 cup vinegar and one teaspoon dish liquid. I like to mix small batch then use it straight away. It's my bathroom cleaner and works really well, even on the glass sliding doors. I did not even know to add washing soda but I will try it now. I've never bothered with the eucalyptus but will throw that into my next batch too!

Glycerin soap does that; I don’t know why. But for years the cleaner I have made and used is a mixture of white vinegar, water, a little bit of dish soap, and sometimes a bit of a citrus essential oil. I used to use glycerin soap (Dr Bronner’s) instead of the dish soap but it kept annoying me with the clumping so I changed to dish soap. Next time I’ll add some washing soda since I also use that in my laundry soap; had not thought of adding it to the general cleaner spray.

Thank you so much, Elly for your wonderful video. I made 1 liter and cleaned a wall and the sink in the bathroom :). I added grapefruit and orange essential oil. It didn't separate, I used dish soap. I think all the vinegar does in the end is adjust the pH, and the vinegar doesn't give the advantage of cleaning calcium carbonate with its low pH because it gets neutralized and is 'gone' in the end product. I measured the pH and it was pH7, otherwise with the alkaline soda + soap I guess it would have been around 9, so in the end it makes the cleaning soap milder for our hands :), but there are other ways to reach this. I personally think this isn't an elegant, 'minimalistic' recipe, and don't see the need of adding soap to soda (and then diluting it with water, distracting soap power by adding vinegar, and yes eucalyptus and lemon and grapefruit have disinfecting and cleaning properties as well), and I feel the effect of soda is diminished by adding soap, but I could be wrong. In some circumstances you need soda to clean and in others soap is appropriate, otherwise our grandmothers would have added the two together ages ago? I think this is a fun and good recipe one can make with household ingredients and its purpose is to remove fat like in the kitchen but not calcium carbonate (film) in the bathroom. It was fun to make and I will think of you when I use it!

Galaxia - thank you! I will save your comment for further consideration. I agree the soap didn't do this recipe any favours. Some people have suggested adding borax, what do you think of that? Method. Everytime you use a lemon or orange, freeze the skin till you have a pile. Put these skins into a big jar with a lid. Cover the skins with vinegar and put lid on. Set aside in a warm place for about 3 weeks. After that strain out the fluid into another jar or bottle. Then throw away the skins. To the the liquid now add same volume of water and its done. Put into a spray bottle and use. I add a few essential oils to it to make a nice smell. Works a treat!! Ive made that miracle spray..makes your stainless shine like crazy!!!

You don’t need vinegar or washing soda to make an effective cleaning spray. Prepare a solution of lactic acid and salt and use it as a base for your spray. For one bottle of 1000 mils add 100 mils of lactic acid 80% and 20 grams of sea salt. When preparing the spray take 200 mils base , 100 dishwashing liquid soap , 50 mils of alcohol and water to fill a one litter bottle. From a bottle of base you can make 5 bottles of spray and you also can make bathroom cleaner adding hand or body wash to the spray in the same amount as above. Also you can skip essential oils. Plus your hands will become soft and smooth from Lactic Acid and salt. It might work with liquid soap too but I didn’t try.

Hi I’m kind of new to soap making. I have this recipe I want to make into a soap and it included BAKING SODA!!! 😮 I would like to know is it possible to use baking in soap if so could you please explain how or even possibly do a video on the steps of making it !!! Thank you so much I’m advance

Hi, I think that recipe is not a good one! Or they made a big mistake. You can't make soap from scratch with baking soda.

@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking ok I do understand that. But do you think it’s possible to use it as a recipe and not as a replacement for lye????

I read somewhere that it’s never a good idea to mix vinegar with homemade soaps as the vinegar’s chemical reaction is to revert some of the soap back into oil form.

Have you tried making this with your liquid laundry soap instead of the Castile soap? I bet that'll work better

Possibly! Though the recipe is designed to be used with modern detergents, I think that was the main issue.

Did you buy sodium carbonate at the supermarket? I tried to find it once and gave up. 2 tablespoons = 3 dessertspoons. 1 tablespoon is 15 mls & 1 dessertspoon is 10 mls.

Yeah sure did! They have it at Woolies and Coles last time I looked. Thanks for the conversions. Dessertspoons are a frustrating measurement. They are not standard! I used tablespoons in protest.

@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking They are not standard 😂 A long time ago I bought a pretty set of measuring spoons that came with a dessertspoon and a pinch spoon! I believe the 'pinch' is officially 1/8 of a teaspoon and I love finding an excuse to use my odd measuring spoons.

Here's another video I came across, for making natural cleaning product for cleaning all around the house. It additionally has Borax and Apple Cider Vinegar powder, and uses homemade liquid soap.

Borax (base) and vinegar (acid) neutralise each other

Yes, that's right. I think it's the vinegar that's out of place in this recipe...
