As a custodian worker in some dorms where girls typically stay 3-12 weeks, we used rubbing alcohol and water to clean the bathroom mirrors. We found that regular mirror cleaner was leaving streaks and we found that there was so much build-up of chemicals that it made it streak worse. The homemade cleaner was able to remove the build up and the mirrors looked awesome. :D
This is why cornstarch works in glass cleaner 😊 On a microscopic level, glass is not perfectly smooth. When you spray water on it, the water molecules get caught in the pits on the glass surface. Water also clings to itself through hydrogen bonding - the hydrogen atoms from two molecules cling together. Water stuck in the glass + water stuck to more water = streaking. Cornstarch (or dish soap or oil-even a couple drops of essential oil) disrupts the hydrogen bonding, thus preventing streaks!
Well look at you smarty pants! lol. Just kidding, thanks for letting me know! That makes sense.
haha, I used the magic of "copy and paste" from another blog where someone explained it :-) But I felt really clever for a second there :-P
lol
+Nicole G Wow, I did not know that! I appreciate your explaining it helps to learn these things. Thank you :O)
Nicola G Sharing is caring!! lol I appreciate the share!!
FYI: I don't know if someone commented this: once I've been told that when we use peroxyde in a cleaning solution, it has to be in an opaque container. Peroxyde looses it's properties when exposed to light. I hope this can help someone!
Can take a sprayer from another bottle and put it on the brown bottle that came with the Hydrogen Peroxide

Right!
LOSES--NOT "LOOSES" !!!!!!
@@susanjoycesabo8450 Sorry english is not my language!
Yes
Did a cost analysis of these! (I am a financial representative- it's a job hazard XD) Prices based on Amazon Pantry prices.
Window cleaner- $0.135/oz vs Windex at $0.14Detergent- $0.056/load vs Tide $0.50/ load! 1/10 OF THE PRICE! Multi-purpose- $0.05- $0.10/oz vs Ajax $0.384/oz! 1/7-1/4 the price depending on if you use EO! Disinfectant- $0.148/oz va Lysol $0.45/oz! 1/3 of the price!
So worth it to make your own!
Doodle Dabble thanks!
thanks!!!!
Comparing liquid MP spray (fl oz) to powder Ajax (net wt oz) does not jive.
Here's a more apples-to-apples comparison of Multi-Purpose Sprays:
5.0¢/oz = DIY
8.8¢/oz = Trader Joe's 34oz US$2.99
10.0¢/oz = DIY with Essential Oils
14.0¢/oz = Clorox Free & Clear 32oz US$4.49
15.3¢/oz = 7th Generation 26oz US$3.99
17.3¢/oz = 7th Generation Free & Clear 23oz US$3.99
The last 3 are online prices at Target.
In my experience, I often see prices on Amazon being much higher than store websites or the manufacturer direct.
Comparing liquid DIY germ reducing spray (fl oz) to aerosol Lysol (net wt oz) also does not jive.
There are liquid non-aerosol anti-bacterial sprays, but I haven't done an analysis of them.
Comparison of aerosol disinfectant sprays (in USA)
15.7¢/oz = store brand at Target 19oz $2.99
16.0¢/oz = store brand at Dollar General 12.5oz $2
16.7¢/oz = store brand at Dollar Tree 6oz $1
22.8¢/oz = Lysol at Costco 19oz 4-pack $17.32
30.5¢/oz = Lysol at Target 19oz $5.79
39.5¢/oz = 7th Generation at Target 13.9oz $5.49
45.0¢/oz = Lysol on Amazon per Doodle Dabble
This is an example that Amazon has much higher prices!!
I make a cleaner
1-1.5oz. of lemon scented ammonia with 26oz. of water Cost about $0.015 to $0.023 an oz. 409 $0.093 oz.
409 has 0.3% ammonia mine 3.5%-5.3%
loved the entire video but my all time favorite part was the ending where you gave a shopping list I didn't have to go back and replay it GREAT VIDEO THANKS
Bercola1 I also appreciated that she gave us a shopping list.
Love all of these! A quick correction though - you didn't use rubbing alcohol, you used isopropyl alcohol. Rubbing alcohol is the green one that has wintergreen oil and was used quite a bit in the early 20th century for easing muscle soreness in athletes. It is commonly found in stores at 70% concentration. To me, it smells amazing! Also, the IPA (isopropyl alcohol) you used was 50% (and 50% water), and that's important because there all many different concentrations out there, and depending on the use, you want more water or less. For example, we have 99% in our house for diluting down to 70% and making a COVID-19 killing spray...having the 30% water allows the IPA a slower evaporation which means more time in contact with potential viral cooties to kill them. I could just dilute it further (to 50%) for the recipe you showed here. There are many uses for 99% IPA, like electronics, laboratory devices, etc where you want a sure disinfection and a quick dry (evaporation). We have a marketing company, and one of our clients makes cleanroom supplies... had to learn about all the alcohols, their attributes, and their uses (methanol, ethanol, IPA, sugar alcohols, and a ton more), so now I have a ton of knowledge. :)
Hi ClutterBug, I absolutely love your versions of cleaning products. This is my very first time making any DIY cleaning products and I love them especially the glass cleaner. Thank you so much for sharing. Your video really inspired me to try making my own products and I love it.
I’ve returned to this video over the years. So appreciate it! Thank you 😊
I loved everything about this video!!! I am going to not only make these for my self, but also my mother and two sisters!! Keep up the great work, you are so down to earth and that's one of the qualities I love about you!
I love your labeling. Looks so high end.
soggy wet toast mom .. haha!! that's SO me! thanks for sharing the recipes. I know love making my own cleaners
I've made all these going and love them. Just made the laundry soap I'm so excited about it
with the intro at first I was like am I on the wrong channel lol
LOL same I was about to click out but then I thought “nahhh, she must be joking” 🤣
This was the first video I watched from your channel and I can't get enough thanks Cass
I loved this video, especially your introduction! I will definitely try some of these - thank you for sharing!
What a breath of fresh air. A normal mum. Not a perfect, soft spoken, fluffy mum! Hurraaayyy 😘💖👍🏾
Thank you sooo much! Just ran out of Windex and will be trying the glass cleaner first.
Love all of your videos ❤️
Thank you so much for the recipes and pretty labels. 💞
Just FYI , you can often find borax in your grocery store, in the laundry aisle. Also, anything with peroxide needs to be in an opaque container to maintain its cleaning properties.
thank u so much for sharing these wonderful homemade products. I am excited to make some of these items. As always another wonderful video.
Very informative. Thank you for posting. The bottles/labels are a great touch also. Very pretty.
Greetings from the Caribbean. You are so Melissa Mc Cartey & Oprah combined. Such fun & household educational. Love your channel totally!
Thank you so much :) I needed a better recipe for homemade stuff because the ones I have tried, especially the detergent was awful, so I'm excited to try them and make them today.
So far I started with the glass cleaner. Yes I was crazy and purchased glass dining room table. I LOVE LOVE LIVE IT!!!! Thank you so much!!! All purpose will be my next project.
Thanks for the tips! I love the pretty labels you made. I make my home cleaners, but these are a little different, I didn't think about using essential oils to make them smell better!!
Wonderful tips. I am super excited to try some of these cleaning recipes. Thank you! 😉✌💙
What a great video! Thank you so, so much for all these incredible, non-chemically, and delicious smelling recipes! I'm allergic to everything under the sun so these are going to be life savers for me. I do use a vinegar, water, and dish soap solution as an all purpose cleaner, but these look so amazing. Can't wait to try them. And you've even made us beautiful labels, too!!:) Thanks, Cass. You really are a wonder! XO, Kate
This is great. I'm obsessed. Great job. Thanks!!
wow I loved it and how cool you even have a list of ingredients wow your amazing
Love homemade cleaners! You labels are adorable. Great video!
I'm totally head over heals with your all purpose cleaner recipe. Ty 😊
Thank you! I love this idea and hate the smell of purchased cleaners... I've just never had recipes for homemade ones until now! Excited to make your recipes and try them out. I'm newer to essential oils and loving them!
Thank you very much for sharing! Just trying out the all purpose cleaner today! Fantastic. Love it ")
Readers, please do research on using borax. It is not safe for boys. Replace it with washing soda. Also be careful when using essential oils in the dryer, it can cause a fire. To answer a question below, yes, essential oils will damage plastic bottles over time. It makes you think how safe are they?
curious how borax is unsafe for boys
per Cas' response to another comment:
she "did a lot of research about Borax. While it is often confused with Boric Acid, it is not toxic and it unfortunately banned from the UK due to soil soil contamination issues. Large amounts of Borax were used as an natural insecticide, but some studies suggest it may leach into the soil and then into the food."
LMAO! The beginning of the video!!! I was like "What has she been smoking" lol So glad you aren't like that! Great video though! Would like to try some of these!
I love your measuring spoons!
to be honest, I only looked this up because we don't have cleaning products in our house and I wanted to clean (I know what your thinking) and as soon as I saw the beginning I was about to turn it off but thank you so much for that I only had to watch one video :)
When you have nothing Vinegar and water cleans. Add it to a large bowl if you have no sprayer and use an old rag and keep refreshing it. Bleach and water disinfects they said that on The Drs.
A lot of soaps or shampoos(conditioning stuff is the possible exception. Laundry detergent also is too slippery.) can be used in a pinch. I remember someone saying soap is soap.
SAME HERE! i heard that spaced out hippy chick voice at the beginning and almost threw up in my mouth
Fantastic video Cass! Now I feel like dumping all my old diy cleaners out and trying out all of yours!
Loved the intro lol, love your personality don't change a thing. I do use alot of homemade cleaners but i will have to add some oils. TFS
I'm going to commit to try and make these! I use your fratricidal freshener recipe all the time!! TFS
I love homemade cleaners! I can't wait to try your recipes!
I love your videos you inspire me to clean my house plus listening to you help me with my English too ♡♡
These r great I will be trying this..thx for the video
I love this! Regular cleaners make me sick. I've been using Method and other "natural" cleaners, but they aren't always effective and they still have quite a few chemicals. I will be making these. Thanks so much for sharing!
I think the sound of the fire detector needing it’s batteries changed in the background after she said “I’m more of a soggy toast mom” is what made this video for me 😂
Thank you for the recipes!!!
I tried your glass cleaner and it works like a charm!!! Thank you
Thanks you for putting all the cleaning solution in one video.
Thank you so much for sharing the ingredient list. i appreciate it. :)
I always think it's fun seeing what people use. I went from using all commercial to homemade to using both. Now I use several products from Norwex, which I love. Never heard of them til I saw another youtuber using them. I found I was using my inhaler on cleaning days and now I don't. Hate health issues. Anyway, looks like you are finding some workable solutions. That's fun. I love homey stuff! :)
I love your videos. This one is my favorite.
THANK YOU for making this video!!!!!!!! You motivated me to get moving on the changeover :)
I'm so glad your a soggy toast mum cause I'm one too loving your videos as always !😀
LOL😂 that intro got me!!!! Loved it❤️

+Jessica Cervantes Thanks so much! I'm sure your pantry looks amazeballs!
I love this video, it’s right up my street!
Girrrrl! I thought...This is NOT Real! And then it flipped......I laughed sooo hard. You had me! Love the recipes. I'm new to the DIY cleansers so, I started experimenting with a few recipes. I will be trying your multi-purpose and glass cleaner recipe. I will start with those two and work my way until I can replace all of my store bought cleansers. Thanks sweetie for the video and the laugh:))) Smooches!
p
Ha! I flipped it too! So tired of the soft sexy sell..lol Saw your post as it was clicking off & cam e back to see the real deal..lol
same here.. was just about to bolt until reading the comment
Bre's Project Book i
ROFL I Was thinking the same I was like omg what happened to clutterbug! LOL I love it!
These recipes are fantastic, the one I'm currently using, the 'Multi-Purpose Cleaner' Works amazing! I replaced the borax with salt, and it still works. Some people have their nose bleed while their sleeping, the first time I used it; it wonderfully got rid of blood and didn't affect the colour. Especially when you're moving to a new place you can use the tile cleaner to clean the bathroom and feel more comfortable.
I started making my own cleaning for the same reason....cost....but your ingredients ...I will definitely have to them give a try!!!
thanks for sharing your homeade laundry detergent its the simplist one and with less ingredients that ive heared about thanks
I'm new to your sight...thanks I enjoyed your sense of humour..and great ideas! Marietta, Brisbane, Australia
I'm totally making the laundry detergent! I did the math and if I buy all the supplies in bulk (minus borax) it will only cost me $5.57 per batch!! That's amazing and I'm super excited now. Thank you so much, you're saving us a lot of money :P
You are very welcome! I have been making the pods recently and they are AWESOME. I will be doing a video soon!
Omg awesome I love this thanks Cas :) I totally love the labels they r so pretty :)
OMG, I love this video! Great explanation of each one too! I am so making these! 💕
Awesome, I can't wait to try these cleaners!
Thank you for the video! Can't wait to try this!
As a mom with one foot on the crunchy side of things - I can see you coming over to the crunchy side - Also they sell flax seed already ground and when added to peanut butter, oats, a few chocolate chips you have a great snack that you can roll into balls and freeze. See...it's not that different on the "semi-crunchy" side. Thanks for the labels!
Living Even Keeled I have my pinky toe in the crunchy side
Love this!!! I can't wait to make my own.
Thank you so much you I use vinegar for nearly everything but I will definitely be trying some of these. Thanks for sharing 😃
Omg! The beginning of this video is hilarious! I was waiting hear, Carol Ann, go into the light! Lo.
so useful video thanks. your way of speaking keep me interesting to listen.
Awesome video! Thank you, it’s very useful for me!
I love your recipe for laundry detergent!!! I've made my own a few times--very few--but it was such a hassle, you have to boil this and that, etc., etc., and also it makes a liquid soap when I actually prefer powdered. Your's is easy-peasy, and I'm going to take you at your word that it works so well: THANK YOU!!!!! I will be trying it very soon.
It’s not a detergent because it contains no surfactants. It just makes salty water. She’s clueless.
I really like your website and free printables. :D
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing!! Totally subscribing to your channel! 😊
Thank you for this, I already make my own laundry detergent, but I make mine liquid and since I'm single, each batch lasts me approx 6 months! I definitely want to make my own cleaning products because I have asthma and alergies, but I'm waiting until I have used up what I currently have. (It might go faster if I cleaned more often. = ). I also really loved your labels. I will definitely go to you website to download the recipies and labels.
wow! thanks so much for this! cant wait to try it
I started making soap (even bath soap) because my eldest granddaughter has sensitive skin and "special" commercial soaps are EXPENSIVE ... I now make all my own cleaners (except Dawn Dish Detergent .. Nothing beats that stuff in my opinion) ... It's so much cheaper and honestly .. since I'm a stay-home grandma .. I have the time..
Great video, recipes and tutorial !! Thanks for sharing!
LMAO the intro cracked me up!!! I can relate to your videos way too much!!!
I just discovered your channel I love it 😍 just subscribed love the tips👍🏼😊
Just made the glass cleaner!!! It worked great!! TFS
I find that baking soda is offten cheeper at the grocery store where I live. Maybe its not everywhere but you may want to double check. I cant wait to try these recipes thanks so much!
Amazing!! Gonna try your all purpose cleaner
Love it!!! Love your labels, so simple and very pretty! Great motivation for me today :) I had to refill all my homemade cleaners today. Thanks for the recipes!
I'm gonna try them all! Thanks. I infuse my citrus peels with vinegar.
"Soggy wet toast Mom" LOL
that's so me too! Love this woman!
I can't wait to try these!
love your videos , love the cleaning products and love when you say about....very Canadian eh
we have been making our own laundry soap for a few years. I will have to try your other recipes :)
Wow you had me going for a second wheeeew! That was well executed sarcasm!!! Props.
Your voice is really soothing!
Oh my goodness laughed so hard at the beginning of this video lol You are too cute!
Make it through the day. That should be a RUclips topic 😂😂😂
Love the recipes and will try some of them this week... after I survived my workweek. 😂😂
Since peroxide breaks down fairly quickly in sunlight, turning into water and losing its disinfecting capability, I'd recommend using the lightproof bottle it comes it, affixing a sprayer. Maybe make the first ever two batches in a regular sprayer, using them quickly, and then change the recipe to fit that now-empty bottle, cutting off part of the sprayer tube if it's too tall for a spray nozzle to fit properly. (Or use the nozzle from a shorter sprayer, such as the short ones they have at Dollar Tree.)
i just use the actual peroxide bottle with a sprayer screwed down..
AccordingToLorna
Right. She’s clueless.
I use my own diy cleaners but u just gave me a new idea as always tfs 😊😊
I LOVE making my own products... I have a 3.5 month old baby and I make all my own baby products from wipes to diaper cream etc... saves so much money and works WAYYY better. Im SOOO excited to make that granite cleaner! Im having my kitchen redone right now, so that couldnt have come at a better time!!!
Excellent video!!!! Thank you so so much for sharing!!!
Thank you for sharing😀 Your channel is a amazing!!
I love this video. I love that you clean so much you're my soul sister lol
