Beautiful day for exploring. I would be terrified of the ferry ride getting there though. Lots of history there. Beautiful views of the area. Love seeing all the signs of Spring too. The flowers were beautiful. Cool to see the coastal area with all the driftwood. Fun fort built there too. Exploring the tide pool is pretty neat but scary about the tides. Hi Steve- The ferries are really huge boats, maybe if you see them you could think of them like a cruise boat. They are super safe… people can walk on, ride bikes and they take cars and huge work trucks and semis. Anyway, I can understand why they would terrify you…you could also take a small plane flight out to San Juan Island! Steve has taken the small plane service to another of the islands, but I haven’t! Anyway, it’s an amazing area to explore in WA- thanks! You too, have a great day! ☀️☀️☀️
Hi Michael- I think you’d really enjoy the history at these two parks, though it’s not from very long ago. Near the British Camp there were huge piles of oyster and other shells, evidence of years and years of use by the native people. 👌😄
The British 🇬🇧 certainly left their mark in many places. Lovely shaded walk. Not much people on the ferry. Very nice walk through the forest, so quiet, but in the open space the views are beautiful. Great shots of flowers and animals 👏❤️

Hi Dan - I lucked out and had sunshine on this trip! The climbs up to the viewpoints are really worth the effort, and I got to see a few flowers along the way too, lol. I always hate to leave, maybe sometime we’ll figure out how to camp out there and spend a bit more time. The geology out there is pretty cool, I haven quite figure it out, but there are lots of Exotic Terranes! 😉🤪😎

Hi Daryl! Great to have you join me - I feel like it’s always a special day when I get to ride the ferry! You could spend a few hours at each of the camps walking through the old buildings and learning more about what life was like back then. If I had to choose, I’d probably live at the American Camp for the wide open views, lol! Both areas have a lots to offer, including the Gary Oak trees at the British Camp, which are very special, and the Island Marble Butterfly, which was thought to be extinct, and now is found only on this Island and one nearby! ⭐️⭐️ Lol- snow forts, that super fun!! 😄 Have a fun weekend! - Jen

A war over a pig - we want our camp back lol! I like sunny, chilly days like that, perfect hiking weather for me. The cemetery was small but to see it looked well maintained and some nice blue and pink wild flows on the rail up to Young Hill and what a view it was there. Healthy orchids , healthy forest, never heard of that before but good if it is true. Sure was a lot of woods on the shoreline and I am all in favour of a long distance relationship with wildlife, especially the bear and the rattlesnake kind but whale watching from a ferry sounds pretty dam cool mind. Hi Alan- seems kind of silly to get to the brink of war over a pig- good thing it all got worked out! It’s a great place to remember how things change so much over time, and remember those that came before us. O me too, long distance is the best with wildlife! We may take a tourist boat ride looking for Whales this summer, seems like that will be the best way to see some… they monitor where the whales are and can zip around to see them… youth I hope I might see some from the shore one day! Great video! I haven't spent any time on San Juan, but moving it up the list now! Beautiful to see all the wildflowers and hear the birds singing. Spring is such a great time to be outside. Oh - if you're interested in orchids check out the book The Orchid Thief. The story is good, but the info about orchids and the history of of people's fascination with them is really amazing. Thanks for the tip on the Orchid book, sounds really interesting! There’s so much to learn about nature, and to love! When you have time to get out to San Juan Island, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. There’s a nice grocery store right when you get off the ferry too, if you need any last minute food or supplies. It’s doable in a day, especially since you can. ace ferry reservations for this run. That's the nicest ferry I've ever seen. We have some janky looking ferries on the East Coast. That's riding in style! 'Peace over War' is a great theme. I have never seen the flower- shooting stars. It's so pretty. Great views! Now I need to start looking for orchids. 😄 'Give them room, use your zoom' is so good. 💜 It's definitely interesting how different the beaches are in different areas. Beautiful ocean views! I consider seeing whales in real life, up close, to be one of the most magnificent things in the world! They are unbelievably kind and gentle! It never ceases to take my breath away, seeing a whale. Excellent information on everything. Wonderful video! 😃💚👊

We may go the tourist route and pay for a whale excursion this summer… we’ve lived here a good long time without seeing any whales, maybe it will be worth it. O yes, our state ferries are pretty nice, clean and not too crowded except on some routes in the summer. The shooting star flowers like a fairly damp environment, semi shade… I had never seen so many in one place as I saw on the first hike- it was amazing! Do you guys have orchids in the forests near you? We have some that grow at lower elevations and some others that grow up higher… the bog orchid is a fun one, it’s white. I hope you find some!! What a beautiful day on the ferry ⛴️. What a beautiful hike , with lots of history. Nice to see that cemetery restored. Wow what a views from the top , then we got a second hike on the same day , that beach was covered with wood would be a great place to get firewood I assume it was as dry as it looked. I could see it being a great spot to build wood forts see why it got its name lol. Again great views from the top, to be able to make ferry reservations would definitely be an asset , I use to have to do a lot of travel to Fogo Island on Newfoundland North East Coast and I would have to leave really early in the morning to assure I would get on the boat and often cut my work short to get home at night or make hotel reservations if I knew I had a lot of work because I was never sure I'd get home being able to make reservations would have eliminated that. You got to see the fox that's great , Thanks for taking us along.
Hi Garry- fun to hear about your experiences with the ferry in your area… being able to make reservations has really helped with commuters and tourists alike. Steve used to commute for about 6 months… yea, you had to get back in the ferry line early or you’d get stuck out there over night. There are quite a few ferry runs around the Puget Sound area, and only two have reservations available, the other ferries run more often and are shorter routes, and you can drive around if you miss the last ferry. The day I went turned out to be great weather- yep two hikes in one day, great views, hard to beat! Big thanks!! - Jen 😄

Hi Mekay- that sounds awesome living in California, great to visit the beach! No, in this area you’re not allowed to remove any driftwood because it’s a National Historic Area, and the driftwood is part of the ecosystem for life on the beach. If people own property on the waterfront they can do as they choose with the driftwood. There are so many trees up in the mountains that the fallen trees eventually get down to the sea level. O yes, turned out to be a pretty busy day with two hikes, but they’re not difficult and they each offer a great experience. Haha! Not really!! But, yep, moved to WA in 7th grade, so had a few years visiting the warm sunny beaches in So Cal! We hiked and camped in the summers too. It wasn’t too crowded back in the day. Hi, thanks! At the end it was a black fox! A fox family lives on the island and hunts the rabbits! I’m not sure, but there may be coyotes too! It sure was a pretty day, nice sunshine and clear skies… perfect for hiking! Thanks! 😄💙💙

We made a trip few years back. I am very grateful that you stepped in where I was ...just my heartbeat went up hahah When we visit it, the new visitor center has not yet opened. Its history is very interesting. we talked to he guide at the white house in your vid. My visit was in early June...so wildlife behavior may be different The woods are beautiful along the hiking trails that are quite moderate. I think you will see or you did see a big American Eagle nest with little brown one in? or The adult eagle flying around in the air while you stay at San Juan? I am glad you seem to enjoy it. Excuse me watching your vids taking time in counter clockwise...
I’m really happy you visited San Juan Island too! The new visitor center at the American Camp is very nice! I didn’t get to see the Bald Eagle there, but I’ve seen them before when I was there! I always love seeing Eagles! This time the Visitor Center at the English Camp was closed, but I’m sure it will be open in the summer. I loved seeing the wildflowers and the big open views of the water and mountains. I hope you can come back to Washington some day! 😄☀️☀️☀️💙

Lol, yes those pesky imperialists, 😄 Well, alls well that ends well! Yes, there are Orca whales in this area, they come past Vancouver Island, and into Puget Sound, and also around the San Juan Islands. We’ve never happened to see them, though many people do that live out there, and people see them while riding the ferry sometimes. I was just asking Steve if he wanted to take a tourist boat trip this summer, maybe then we would! 🤪 😄 Big thanks Kev!

Not much people on the ferry. Very nice walk through the forest, so quiet, but in the open space the views are beautiful. Great shots of flowers and animals 👏❤️

Hi Dan - I lucked out and had sunshine on this trip! The climbs up to the viewpoints are really worth the effort, and I got to see a few flowers along the way too, lol. I always hate to leave, maybe sometime we’ll figure out how to camp out there and spend a bit more time. The geology out there is pretty cool, I haven quite figure it out, but there are lots of Exotic Terranes! 😉🤪😎
@@JenniferLupine Right. Those Baja terrains are all up there. Where’s the beach? lol. The views made me wonder how much more land was exposed during the ice age because of the lower sea levels.

I loved my virtual ferry ride with you. Thanks for showing me around the boat. Very interesting history about the British and American tensions over the territory. The views from the tops were stunning, such a beautiful area. I used to build forts when I was a kid too, but mine were made of snow. 😂 Another great tour, Jen. 👌
Hi Daryl! Great to have you join me - I feel like it’s always a special day when I get to ride the ferry! You could spend a few hours at each of the camps walking through the old buildings and learning more about what life was like back then. If I had to choose, I’d probably live at the American Camp for the wide open views, lol! Both areas have a lots to offer, including the Gary Oak trees at the British Camp, which are very special, and the Island Marble Butterfly, which was thought to be extinct, and now is found only on this Island and one nearby! ⭐️⭐️

A war over a pig - we want our camp back lol! I like sunny, chilly days like that, perfect hiking weather for me. The cemetery was small but to see it looked well maintained and some nice blue and pink wild flows on the rail up to Young Hill and what a view it was there. Healthy orchids , healthy forest, never heard of that before but good if it is true. Sure was a lot of woods on the shoreline and I am all in favour of a long distance relationship with wildlife, especially the bear and the rattlesnake kind but whale watching from a ferry sounds pretty dam cool mind. Hi Alan- seems kind of silly to get to the brink of war over a pig- good thing it all got worked out! It’s a great place to remember how things change so much over time, and remember those that came before us. O me too, long distance is the best with wildlife! We may take a tourist boat ride looking for Whales this summer, seems like that will be the best way to see some… they monitor where the whales are and can zip around to see them… youth I hope I might see some from the shore one day! We loved this! We were hoping to make it there last trip but couldn't fit into the schedule. We absolutely love those big open views out over the bluffs. What a beautiful area. Loved the prairie areas and the driftwood beach. Looks like you were treated to a bit of everything on these trails!

Great video! I haven't spent any time on San Juan, but moving it up the list now! Beautiful to see all the wildflowers and hear the birds singing. Spring is such a great time to be outside. Oh - if you're interested in orchids check out the book The Orchid Thief. The story is good, but the info about orchids and the history of of people's fascination with them is really amazing. Thanks for the tip on the Orchid book, sounds really interesting! There’s so much to learn about nature, and to love! When you have time to get out to San Juan Island, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. There’s a nice grocery store right when you get off the ferry too, if you need any last minute food or supplies. It’s doable in a day, especially since you can. ace ferry reservations for this run. That's the nicest ferry I've ever seen. We have some janky looking ferries on the East Coast. That's riding in style! 'Peace over War' is a great theme. I have never seen the flower- shooting stars. It's so pretty. Great views! Now I need to start looking for orchids. 😄 'Give them room, use your zoom' is so good. 💜 It's definitely interesting how different the beaches are in different areas. Beautiful ocean views! I consider seeing whales in real life, up close, to be one of the most magnificent things in the world! They are unbelievably kind and gentle! It never ceases to take my breath away, seeing a whale. Excellent information on everything. Wonderful video! 😃💚👊
Hi IceBear- so nice to read your comment, thanks! I’m all in on whales! Aren’t they wonderful, I hope the oceans stay clean and cool and healthy for them! We may go the tourist route and pay for a whale excursion this summer… we’ve lived here a good long time without seeing any whales, maybe it will be worth it. O yes, our state ferries are pretty nice, clean and not too crowded except on some routes in the summer. The shooting star flowers like a fairly damp environment, semi shade… I had never seen so many in one place as I saw on the first hike- it was amazing! Do you guys have orchids in the forests near you? We have some that grow at lower elevations and some others that grow up higher… the bog orchid is a fun one, it’s white. I hope you find some!! What a beautiful day on the ferry ⛴️. What a beautiful hike , with lots of history. Nice to see that cemetery restored. Wow what a views from the top , then we got a second hike on the same day , that beach was covered with wood would be a great place to get firewood I assume it was as dry as it looked. I could see it being a great spot to build wood forts see why it got its name lol.
Again great views from the top, to be able to make ferry reservations would definitely be an asset , I use to have to do a lot of travel to Fogo Island on Newfoundland North East Coast and I would have to leave really early in the morning to assure I would get on the boat and often cut my work short to get home at night or make hotel reservations if I knew I had a lot of work because I was never sure I'd get home being able to make reservations would have eliminated that.

Hi Garry- fun to hear about your experiences with the ferry in your area… being able to make reservations has really helped with commuters and tourists alike. Steve used to commute for about 6 months… yea, you had to get back in the ferry line early or you’d get stuck out there over night. There are quite a few ferry runs around the Puget Sound area, and only two have reservations available, the other ferries run more often and are shorter routes, and you can drive around if you miss the last ferry. The day I went turned out to be great weather- yep two hikes in one day, great views, hard to beat! Big thanks!! - Jen 😄

Hi Mekay- that sounds awesome living in California, great to visit the beach! No, in this area you’re not allowed to remove any driftwood because it’s a National Historic Area, and the driftwood is part of the ecosystem for life on the beach. If people own property on the waterfront they can do as they choose with the driftwood. There are so many trees up in the mountains that the fallen trees eventually get down to the sea level. O yes, turned out to be a pretty busy day with two hikes, but they’re not difficult and they each offer a great experience. I’d love to take a picnic and just hangout watching the Straight of Juan de Fuca at the beach… maybe Steve will go with me! 👌😄☀️☀️☀️

Haha! Not really!! But, yep, moved to WA in 7th grade, so had a few years visiting the warm sunny beaches in So Cal! We hiked and camped in the summers too. It wasn’t too crowded back in the day. Ah yes, it sure was a beautiful day for these hikes- I love that view too- beautiful water and mountains- feels peaceful to me. Thanks Jim!! 😄😎☀️☀️☀️

Hi, thanks! At the end it was a black fox! A fox family lives on the island and hunts the rabbits! I’m not sure, but there may be coyotes too! It sure was a pretty day, nice sunshine and clear skies… perfect for hiking! Thanks! 😄💙💙

The woods are beautiful along the hiking trails that are quite moderate.

I’m really happy you visited San Juan Island too! The new visitor center at the American Camp is very nice! I didn’t get to see the Bald Eagle there, but I’ve seen them before when I was there! I always love seeing Eagles! This time the Visitor Center at the English Camp was closed, but I’m sure it will be open in the summer. I loved seeing the wildflowers and the big open views of the water and mountains. I hope you can come back to Washington some day! 😄☀️☀️☀️💙

Lol, yes those pesky imperialists, 😄 Well, alls well that ends well! Yes, there are Orca whales in this area, they come past Vancouver Island, and into Puget Sound, and also around the San Juan Islands. We’ve never happened to see them, though many people do that live out there, and people see them while riding the ferry sometimes. I was just asking Steve if he wanted to take a tourist boat trip this summer, maybe then we would! 🤪 😄 Big thanks Kev!
