Steve, we drilled the center hole first then cut it all out. So much easier than drilling after the larger one is done. Love this vase thanks again for sharing. In the small vase I use a cigar glass tube. A friends husband smokes cigars and gives them to me. They are perfect for this.
Lori B Great ideas Lori! I was thinking of trying a pvc pipe with a cap, but that's not so attractive. Drilling the hole first it genius! I didn't know I was going to end up with the smaller one when I made them. lol
Another fine episode - The Striped Vase for holding the Assassin's Rose. Your Knights Templar background is really showing with the Masonic symbolism on this project Mr. Carmichael.
Steve Carmichael I'm deciphering all the symbolism in your projects so I can stop your plot for world domination. I hope people don't actually look at the comment section, I hate to think someone is reading this nonsense - lol
Conspiratard LOL, I'm enjoying your comments. You can't stop my plot though...soon everyone will be making wood vases with plastic flowers. Once everyone has plastic flowers, real flowers will overtake the world! Bwahahahahaa!
Great looking project, Steve and a super bonus to boot! I bet if you squared off the smaller one and repeated your process you could even get a THIRD vase! I'm sure your girls will love them!
I bet this week was band saw box fever week! I made a band saw box with 3 little drawers for my wife using pine on the outside and plywood on the inside. First time I ever do that combo. Going to finish it today for tomorrow. I like your design and the pine used inside. Very very neat!
Thanks Ed! Yes, I bet everyone has been busy in the shop this week. Some of my favorite boxes have plywood in them. The stripes will look awesome when you finish it.
Very nice project and VERY well presented. I like the way you explain everything without getting bogged down with excessive details. Cool music too. Thanks
I searched the RUclips library for Chances and it comes up. The Artist is listed as Silent Partner. Not sure if that is the name of the artist, or if it means the artist name is private for some reason.
Well done, Steve. It's nice when you discover that the innards can become a whole other iteration of the project. I've got a couple band saw boxes that are generational like that, where I made another box from the scrap removed to hollow a drawer. And then two even smaller boxes from that one's drawer waste. Excellent project and nice video too.
Great project! Most importantly, your editing is excellent. You keep just enough to show us how to do it and leave off the right stuff. I hate watching glue dry, or watching extra video.
Thanks Mark! I keep trying to improve on something with every video. I did have glue dripping in this one. LOL My favorite part is when the glue drops land on the beat of the music.
Nice little surprise on the inside!.....2 for 1 deal there. I once accidentally grabbed some cedar 2x4's for framing out a doorway.....it was a dark rainy day and I didn't even realize they were cedar at the time...........anyway I took the scrap cutoffs and made a few bowling pins on the lathe for a yard bowling game......nice wood to work with.
Thanks Everette! They would be great for a porch. I'm keeping an eye out for plastic/glass vases or containers that would fit inside them to hold water.
Thanks! It's from the youtube library. They have really done a good job at picking lots of good music for creators to use. I just go through the library until I find one that feels right for the video.
Hi Steve - Great project. I've watched the video several times to make sure I got the steps in the right order... I have some walnut and maple for my project. Got everything glued up - figure I'll start cutting this weekend. BTW - I'm over in Marietta. I'll send pics when finished. Love your work! The Guitar was fantastic! Keith Richards would be proud!!! Jeff Brunot Marietta, Ga
Jeff Brunot Hi Jeff! Thanks! I grew up in Marietta and visit my mom over there sometimes. I went to Sprayberry and Southern Tech. The vases was one of my favorite projects. Can't wait to see yours.
Nice project Steve! It was a bit more complicated than I had expected just by looking at the finished product. The red cedar sure is a nice color. Brett
Thanks Brett! I really surprised myself with this project. I thought at some point I would make a wrong cut at the wrong time. And to end up with two at the end was a great surprise.
Thanks Tim! Yes, the bonus vase was totally unexpected. Even when I took that middle part out, I thought I would just throw it in the scrap bin and do something with it later.lol
I use a Canon Powershot A2200 that I bought from someone off craigslist for $40. It shoots in 720p. I use 3 clamp lights with flourescent bulbs and set the camera's white balance setting to flourescent. Then I just make sure the camera focuses on the right thing and I use the Macro mode for close ups. I suggest shooting short clips with different settings, then watch them all back to see what looks best.
nice work Steve. using your skills as research into buying my first bandsaw. gonna get a good jointer thicknesses first then a bandsaw. already have a table saw drill press and morticer. getting ready for retirement in about 15 years and the budget is tight but am slowly but surely building my shop.keep up the good work
+mediocre toker Thanks! The bandsaw is my favorite tool. I would love to have a bigger/better one, like the Grizzly 14" anniversary one. But the one I use was my father's so I kind of like using it because of that. It works great for being an inexpensive Craftsman one.
+Jeffrey Bauer Thanks! Yeah that would be perfect. You should just cut them in half. My friend reduced the template and made some small ones on his scroll saw.
Steve, I always enjoy your projects. Thanks for posting your fantastic work and teaching us all how to do it, mistakes and all. I always look forward to your videos.
As I was watching I was honestly thinking that I liked/appreciated the fact that you were trying something new and taking us along for the ride. THANKS!
Truly awesome looking Steve! When you put the first pine spline in I was really hoping to see you do the cross section as well and was very happy to see that as well. Very well thought out plans. If I ever get a bandsaw, I will have to try this one out.
Thanks! I had a hard time picturing what order to make the cuts in for some reason. I had to think ahead a lot on this one. I like Linkin Park...I recorded a parody of one of their songs with a friend of mine. Here are the lyrics we did lol - www.amiright.com/parody/2000s/linkinpark277.shtml
Thanks John! I don't have those kind of attachments for my lathe yet. I've only done pens so far. I think I would need those jaw things or whatever they are called. I only have a faceplate and a drive center but still haven't tried those yet. I'm slowly getting into turning other things though.
Mom and daughter will love the mom and daughter vases. Good work dad.
Thanks!
Good instructional video. You don't spend 10 minutes talking about what you're going to do, you get right into it! I just subbed
Made this vase once leaving a lot to be desired. Came back to review and learn. Great music. Thank you.
Great video and instructions. The music made it very easy to watch and listen to.

Beautiful project. The contrasting wood colors really make a difference.
Thank you! I love the western red cedar. It such a rich brown color.
Great project. What really makes it special is there is very little scrap. 2 vases from 1 glue-up. Economical!
Steve, I'd like say your videos are getting better and better as you go. Keep it up!
Thanks Kerry! I like trying something new with every one.
Great project Steve. Like the use of the waste.
Thanks man! I almost threw it in the scrap bin.
Once again you have outdone yourself. I enjoy watching your videos and learning from them.
Thanks Jeffrey! More coming soon.
I really like this idea! very creative!
Thanks Dave

You did a really nice job on these, Steve.
Thanks Kevin!
Very nice. They look beautiful. So much fun to make stuff as opposed to buying them. Makes the gifts priceless.
Thanks! Yes, I like to think that they would be appreciated more.
Great looking project, Steve and a super bonus to boot! I bet if you squared off the smaller one and repeated your process you could even get a THIRD vase! I'm sure your girls will love them!
Thanks Mike! It would be cool to maybe start with a bigger vase and make 3.
Wow, such a lovely vases.

Very nice project and VERY well presented. I like the way you explain everything without getting bogged down with excessive details. Cool music too. Thanks
Thank you very much!
Wonderful project Steve. Very well presented. And man that was a cool tune.
Thanks Donnie! Yeah, I love the music. RUclips has some good stuff in their audio library.
This is on my "must do" list with my kids.
Awesome Randy! Good dad you are...getting your kids into woodworking. Keep it up!
Very nice!
Thanks Michael!
Great project Steve! (as soon as I have a bandsaw......)
Thanks Gerrit! The bandsaw is my favorite!
My first bandsaw is on order and should be here soon and this will be my first project. Love your video and the music.
I searched the RUclips library for Chances and it comes up. The Artist is listed as Silent Partner. Not sure if that is the name of the artist, or if it means the artist name is private for some reason.
@@SteveCarmichael Thanks mate I found it.

Thanks Steve! I almost threw it in the scrap bin, then when I got to the finishing step, I looked at it and thought my daughter would like one too.
Great job!! I finished my 1st bandsaw box today. I am new to woodworking. It's a lot of fun.
+Robert Lee Thanks Robert! Congrats on the first box. It's addicting and people love receiving them as gifts.
Great project! Most importantly, your editing is excellent. You keep just enough to show us how to do it and leave off the right stuff. I hate watching glue dry, or watching extra video.

Beautiful vases, they look very stylish and well made.
Thank you very much Francisco!
Wow. A really neat design.
Thanks John!
Neat idea. I like the free bonus project.
Thanks! Yes, it worked out great. Glad I cut it well along the line.
Another great project Steve!

Take care,
Carl
Nice job ! Looks great! It rocks like 96!
Nice little surprise on the inside!.....2 for 1 deal there.

Yes, I really like the rich brown color and it's easy to cut and sand. Kinda powdery dust though. Thanks Sparrow!
Super talented! Great project.
Thanks Marshall! I didn't even know if these would work, but to get a surprise 2nd vase out was just too cool.
Very creative , i really liked the simplecity that made beuty and function
Thank you!
These vases are definitely posh enough to qualify for being called a vaaahse, haha!
Love it, thanks for sharing
I really liked that! Nice job.
Thanks Brian!
Scroll saw plans
Your video was very enjoyable and informative. I must say the MUSIC was great it made your video "pop"
Very nice, I see a bunch of them on my porch this summer.
Thanks Everette! They would be great for a porch. I'm keeping an eye out for plastic/glass vases or containers that would fit inside them to hold water.
You always have the best music!!!
Thanks! It's from the youtube library. They have really done a good job at picking lots of good music for creators to use. I just go through the library until I find one that feels right for the video.
Awesome video!!! I must do this for my mom!!
Thanks Alex! She will love it.
Great project and awesome video Steve.
Thanks Bill! I had to go out in the snow and ice to clip some berries to put in the vases for the pictures. lol
I did that years ago for a Christmas vase when the family came down.
Nicely done. I love the combining 2 species of wood. Changed it from a good vase to a great vase
Thank you Stew! Yes, I think the extra steps to do that was well worth it.
Great Idea. I, also, loved the background music.
Thank you! Me too! I thought it flowed well with the video. It's from the youtube audio library. They have good stuff in there.
Beautiful looks fantastic
Awesome project and wonderfull job. You inspires me Steve. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Yes, I love my bandsaw. It lends itself well to creativity.
Nice project Steve! It was a bit more complicated than I had expected just by looking at the finished product. The red cedar sure is a nice color.

Terrific project. Well presented--especially the "bonus" vase....
Thanks Tim! Yes, the bonus vase was totally unexpected. Even when I took that middle part out, I thought I would just throw it in the scrap bin and do something with it later.lol
Your videos look really good--can I ask what type of camera you are using? I'm thinking about doing some RUclips videos myself...

Gracias Sergio!!!
Awesome job Steve,
First time I ever saw a band saw vase.
Regards,
Bob
Thanks Bob!
these are neat. I think they would be great in a small version for those air plants everyone is crazy about.
+Jeffrey Bauer Thanks! Yeah that would be perfect. You should just cut them in half. My friend reduced the template and made some small ones on his scroll saw.
Really great job! It’s not only a great project but great instructions as well.
I got to make one of these when I get my blades back from the saw doctor. Real good video Steve
Thanks Roger! I had to really think about what to cut in what order. It seems it would be easy to cut the wrong line at the wrong time.
I agree with Steve. I like it !
Thanks Tony!
Those came out really nice ... before you made made the baby vase I thought it would make a cool little lamp but that is way cooler its like a set
These would make good lamps. Didn't think about that. Bandsaw Lamps!
it would be cool to have the big one a lamp and the smaller one the vase and it would be a complementary pair side by side
Luvly vase Steve keep em comeing
Phil uk
Thanks Phil in the UK! Will do sir!
Very cool project Steve. Great video.
Thanks JD!
I really like the project and enjoy the video!
Thank you Jorge!

+chriscjohns Thanks Chris! It's a fun project and the 2nd vase is a nice bonus.
Hey Steve, I just started watching a few weeks ago, love your projects. Keep up the good work
been watching your videos allday, there great! keep up the good work, Paul from Ireland
Thanks Paul! I will have a new birdhouse video up this weekend. How's Ireland today? It's sunny and 60s here in Atlanta. Spring finally.
Raining as always, i think it gives for it to be sunny next month. i will look out for the next video!
It's been great weather this week, but supposed to have freezing temps next week. Typical Georgia weather changes. Hope you get some sunshine soon!
Beautifull work! It's a very clever design and turned out very nicely :)
Thanks!
Serg Alekseev Thank you Serg!

Thank you Adam. I enjoyed this one, although I didn't know if it would work, but I kept moving forward.
As I was watching I was honestly thinking that I liked/appreciated the fact that you were trying something new and taking us along for the ride. THANKS!
My plan was to do the video even if it didn't work. Luckily I only missed the inner sanding step.
Really nice. I'll bet this would be nice in other wood too.
Thanks Joseph! Yes, I think it would look good with solid wood too, like a 4x4. That would save some glue up steps.
Awesome project Steve! You make it look easy!
Thanks Chuck!
Great project, as usual, Steve. Music was good, too.
Thanks! I almost went with a heavy metal song. lol
Steve Carmichael
Glad you didn't use a metal song, I have to mute that stuff.
lol, I'll use it next time. he he
Steve Carmichael Thanks, buddy! lol
Great tutorial ! I like your style of teaching, very thorough and detailed. I have subscribed to learn more. Thank you! Lin H.
I loved the detail in your vase. Looks beautiful!
Thanks WoodChick!
Truly awesome looking Steve! When you put the first pine spline in I was really hoping to see you do the cross section as well and was very happy to see that as well. Very well thought out plans. If I ever get a bandsaw, I will have to try this one out.

Nice vases and fun to make. Liked and subbed
Very nice Steve. The small vase seems ripe to go into a lathe chuck and turn it.
Thanks John! I don't have those kind of attachments for my lathe yet. I've only done pens so far. I think I would need those jaw things or whatever they are called. I only have a faceplate and a drive center but still haven't tried those yet. I'm slowly getting into turning other things though.
That's a great project Steve and a really enjoyable video they came out really nice.
All the best
tony
Thank you Tony!
Very cool the way that you put all of this together... Excellent project :)
Thank you John!
These turned out great!
Great project Steve, I hope all is well during the ice storm down there, Thanks for sharing, and keep up the great work!
Thanks Dana! Yes, it's all melting although I guess it might refreeze tonight. Will find out when I go to work tomorrow.
That was excellent.. I love it.. Thank buddy!
+Angelo Castronovo Thanks again!
Great work Steve - very efficient use of the wood, getting 2 for 1 - I wish I was as creative as you - lovely presents for the ladies in your life
Thank you sir! They loved them.
