It's worth mentioning that Europe and the USA were very much into other precious stones when the diamond inception began. De Beers did a lot to tarnish the reputation of those other stones: bad luck, magnet for ghosts, illnesses, etc. while perfecting the reputation of the diamond as something pure and as unbreakable as some holy spirit.
Opal was growing in popularity as an engagement stone and DeBeers, as part of their effort to make diamonds the standard, purchased a big opal mine in Hungary and shut it down.
Bro your humour is terrible and I know you'll have little fanboys and fangirls who will always tell you you rock but trust me your humour is ok not terrible how can I word it......... That nerdy uncomfortable when someone's just awkward and weird. And as for the end of this video what do you think myself the viewer took away from this diamonds aren't rare or forever ok rarity any dummy should be able to see this isn't true if it were then 90% of all diamonds on earth would be in a rappers closet ever buy a diamond anything and then try to sell it the diamond is worth nothing real or labgrown. Not forever........ Ok........ But still a super long ass time and still the hardest but the point is there was no point you just said diamonds were not forever but then did nothing to explain your declaration what's you're argument that they aren't forever. I watched a bunch of your shorts and I think you do a great job on them. You have a good look and voice and your delivery is full of excitement and energy without going over the top. I also like that you are kid friendly with the language. Keep up the good work.
Simple, because he belabored a very simple point in order to increase the length of the video. That whole supply and demand graph was particularly circuitous. I was going..."just get to the point!". And we all know the point. In fact, the point of this whole video is common knowledge. Debeers are artificially limiting diamond supply in order to increase demand. This is not unique to Debeers. Rolex, Hermes, Gucci...etc. basically all high end brands do it. But diamonds are unique. Because, although DeBeers do limit supply of diamonds, and carbons are everywhere, not all carbons are diamonds, and not all diamonds are of the quality fit for jewelry. Only a small percentage of diamonds are of high enough quality to be sold as jewelries. And here is the actual truth, diamond supply, just like every natural resource, is finite. If you mine too much, you could run out of supply. And, it's not like every place has diamonds, there are only select mining sites in the world, and even the act of mining is a very difficult and expensive process. So, while the video is true enough, there are a lot more reasons why diamonds are expensive, and it's not as simplistic as "DeBeers limit supply".
oof, i think debeers was the blood diamond cuz they were the europeans profiteering off the local africans. either from cheap labor then marking up the price to ludicrously high levels or out right slave labor. (idk, because bloody or unsafe work conditions is a topic i kinda know exists but ive yet to compile my evidence. 1) sweat shops, 2) child labor, 3) modern day slavery, and so on. its nice to be american but the goods we enjoy that are cheap is probably due to them paying them low wages. even adjusting for thier country
As a south African, let me mention a little bit about Cecil Rhode, not only was he a crazy monopolistic maniac, but he had placed the roots of what we had called "Apartheid" (separateness) in afrikaans which caused great racial segregation all the way until 1994, he also would seperate black diamond miners from their family and keep them in really poor conditions, not to mention slavery had been abolished, but since the people were getting payed "probably around 5-10% the cost of a diamond" it wasn't considered slavery, he also wanted to capitalize on the whole of Africa and build a railroad from South Africas Cape Of Good Hope to Egypt.
My wife hates it when I mention that her engagement ring will never be worth what we paid for it. It’s beautiful, sure, but if it appraised for anything near what I paid, I’d be shocked.
Well I can understand why she hates it The main thing about a ring is the sentimental value And there's no reason to regret something you can't, and shouldn't, take back

20+ years ago, I watched a documentary the truth about diamonds just before I got married. It stated almost everything this video mentioned. Can't remember the title tho. Told my wife to be that I will never buy her diamond jewellery. But I bought her the monetary equivalent in gold jewellery. Apart from the rare one, diamonds never hold their value. Try and see how much that $10 000 you paid for diamond ring can get you at a pawn shop vs. a 916 gold ring.
glad you and your spouse chose gold instead, gold don't decrease value after buying and either stay or even increase over time. It's a good investment!
