I watched as they hit the swiffer against their little step ladder to get the dust to come off as she was cleaning the ceiling fan. That was the last time I ever used a swiffer and every time I see their commercials, I just shake my head wondering how many others fall for the nonsense.. Hi Angela recently found your videos and love them. Unfortunately some of us are not taught how to clean when children. Would really enjoy a back to basics playlist or something similar. Thanks for all the great content.
You have sold me on the Swiffer duster! I used the Swiffer products years ago then switched to an ostrich feather duster. I have since hired a house cleaner and noticed she uses the Swiffer dusters! I have her come once a month so I’m still cleaning between visits, hopefully I can eventually have her come every week or at least every two weeks! Thanks so much for all your great tips!!
Thanks Debbie for the kind words of encouragement and support. I am so delighted with the way the Swiffer Duster works. Keep me posted and let me know how you like it. I'm eager to hear your experience. 😍
As a professional middle-aged man I thank you for all your tips! I've used a feather duster for years but it often "leaks" dust when I move around. I hope the Swiffer system will help us keep our shelves clean. Take care, keep up the great work. 👍🏻
Thanks for dropping by and keep me posted on how the Swiffer Duster works for you. It's by far my favorite duster on the market for the very reasons you just mentioned. No "leaks". 😍
I have that thing and love it. I live where some farmer is always plowing a field, and my dog is short-haired but sheds like crazy, so the dust and dog hair that lands on surfaces here is just never-ending. The Swiffer Duster is great for getting around and between items on shelves, etc., without having to move them, and also for tight spots like the wall and baseboard beside the dryer where the vacuum crevice tool can't reach. Genius idea to keep one in the car, too! Thanks, Angela!
I have had my Swiffer extension duster for quite a while. I use washable heads to cut some waste. I have found it an essential staple-probably my favorite, most faithfully used cleaning tool. However, I have one question: how do you keep the swivel head locked? Mine will lock, hold, and then loosen in a matter of moments, taking away from my time to adjust and re-lock the swivel head. Have you run into this? And if so, are there any ways you've found to mechanically fix or resolve it? I am rather attached to my extender, and don't want to replace it if it isn't necessary.
I’m sorry that your Swiffer isn’t staying locked. Here is a link to the Swiffer company: www.swiffer.com/en-us/contact-us (paid link) I suggest you reach out to see if they have any tips on their product.
Yes, the Swiffer Duster Extender 6ft is my new favorite tool. NOTE: I'm only talking about the 6ft extender (paid link amzn.to/3KLHF5T and it looks like this) the 3 ft extender has a different handle and lacks the stability of the double head the 6 ft extender has. IMO
I just bought a box of the 2d ones and wow, I'm impressed. I always thought they were a gimmick given the aggressive marketing behind them, but it turns out they actually work amazingly well. Guess they just got a new customer.
Thanks for this video. I have been wondering how these worked, tempted to buy new but not sure if it was just a gimmick. I'm sold! Can't wait to get one and start using it. How do you tell if it's full?
Let me know how you like them. I've never found a better replacement - so I'm hooked. If you re a cleaning professional we dispose of the head at the end of cleaning a home. We never cross-contaminate duster heads from home to home. You wouldn't want to touch everything in someone's home with a duster, then go to someone elses home and touch everything in their home with the same duster head. That said, if you are in your own home, it's unlikely you are going to do ALL the dusting at once. So you can put it down and pick it up later to finish dusting. When it gets icky, toss it and get a new head.
I wish you were here where I live. It’s difficult to find anyone to help me especially the first time for a deep clean. And yes I’ve called professionals ( 3 in my area) they never want to come back, once a week, to help keep it up. And I don’t have kids only an old cat ( lovely) but my house is open air. Always trade winds coming through ( which I love) anyway , your channel is so smart and professional. You are terrific at explaining everything and I really like your sense of fairness and integrity. 🌺 all the best to you
I’m so sorry you’ve had trouble finding someone to help you with cleaning. I appreciate you reaching out to let me know that you like the video and I wish you the best of luck. Sending hugs! 🤗
Apologies lol! My cat just walked across my phone! Anyway all of your videos have been very helpful. I had a couple surgeries and I’m a very physical person. Keeping me down and feeling helpless. It shall pass, but truly, it’s difficult to find someone to come in and help clean. Someone from the mainland would do very well if they started a business here. 🌺 aloha from the Big Island of Hawai’i
LOL. Yes, if you are one of those folks, like me, who sees dust wherever they go - it comes in handy having one in the car. (I'm neurotic now, I have one in each side of the car so as a passenger I can also dust while someone else is driving.)
I was always old school. A cloth and furniture polish was what I used. A friend mentioned these and I thought, surely they must work if she's recommending them. So I went out and bought the big pack at Sam's. I hate them. I dusted my headboard which has 4 cubby holes and the first 2 cubbies were great. By the 3rd and 4th, it was all I could do to get into the corners to get the dust out! All it does is just what I thought, it throws dust around and doesn't really pick up after the initial swipes. There's a reason old school is STILL old school. And yes, it's name brand, yes, it's the heavy-duty 360. I thought I'd come on here and see what I must be doing wrong. It's pretty simple. It just doesn't work.
Thank you, Anglea, for sending me to this video! I actually had finally got the head on the stick, but i think what happened was the first one i used may have been defective, because i have not had a problem since. But i loved this video too becausd it inspired me to use it regularly. I cleaned homes many years ago and always used a regular old feather duster. I hated that thing! It just spred dust as you say in this video but you are also right about the swiffer, and i am a huge fan now! I hope they give you a commission or something becauss you sold me on it. Heck i almost...consider it fun, lol.😊 Thanks!
Hi Angela, I love your channel. I’m now playing your videos on the tv while I clean to stay motivated. It helps tremendously! I think I avoided cleaning before because it was such a lonely task. You help make it fun and rewarding. I can’t thank you enough!
Hi Angela! I use the swiffer duster as well and love it! I use it to remove dust from the toilet tank lid and tubs before cleaning with soap and water otherwise my cloth gets full of dust!
LOL. Yes, and if my husband is in the car driving before he gets out of the car he pulls out the Swiffer Duster and dusts the dashboard. While dusting he makes wisecracks like "Hey, look at me, I'm leaving the car a cleaner place than when I found it." 😂😂😂
Hi Angela I have a lot of books on bookshelves, many of which haven't been read in years and have accumulated a lot of dust on top of them. Is this the best tool for cleaning the tops and not pushing the dust down between the pages?
Yes, The books can be dusted with the Swiffer Duster and the shelves can be dusted, then wiped down with a damp microfiber cloth. When the shelves are dry, the books can be returned to the shelves.
Hey Angela Am new and preparing to get started, which booking app can I use for sitting up appointments easily for clients and also for making payments Thanks
There are lots of great programs on the market. These are the ones I'm most familiar with and recommend savvycleaner.com/resources/maid-scheduling-software/
Thank you for mentioning this June! The waste of using these makes me cringe - after watching this video they seem so helpful though! Really good to know there’s a way to be more conscious about disposable products.
Hey, Angela! I remembered you had a video talking about if a cleaning business owner should lease/own an office for their cleaning business. Do you still have that video available? My business has developed at a point that I start to think about this question.
I find the Swiffer Duster very useful, but argh, it drives me crazy sometimes! When I dust off some things like my books, the fluffy thing always slips off the handle no matter how I attach it to it!
I wonder why that is. I'm guessing the sleeves were too big to stay on. In that event, other professional house cleaners tell me they use clear hair elastics (here is the paid link amzn.to/3cRO82D so you can see what I'm talking about) and they slide it on about halfway to hold the replacement head in place and then fluff the duster around the rubber band. It's an extra step but would ensure it wouldn't slip off when cleaning.
@@AskAngelaBrown Oh thank you Angela! I had tried to fumble a rubber band there before, but the result was unsatisfactory - I stupid nut didn't come up with the idea of attaching it in the way you described.
Lili, Another great reason to use Swiffer dusters is you can recycle them through this program: www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/swiffer Thanks so much for sharing this tip!
when I shake mine (not like crazy either) I can see dust coming back off of it ??? i want to love it - but ? It is hard to keep on the handle and doesn't really seem to work for my farm house ?? what could I be doing wrong ?
Are you using the Swiffer brand refills? There are knock-off brands available in some of the big discount stores that don't have the patented trap and lock technology and they don't stay on very well either. I wonder if by mistake you ended up with a box of similar refills but not the Swiffer brand. The boxes they come in are deceptively similar. I've tried both kinds and having cleaned literally thousands of homes, there is only one brand of refills I buy for the very reasons you mention.
Hi Angela, can you make a video about house cleaners and the ethics around calling CPS in cases of suspected or confirmed child or elder abuse/neglect? For instance, I cleaned a house today where the child's room was infested with flies and smelled strongly of urine. The parent said they had "given up on the room and that the kids are just messy." The children all appeared to be under the age of 12. I gave the parent recommendations and told them that I could come back to finish cleaning properly because it would have turned into an all-day thing and I had another client booked after them. Hopefully they take me up on that offer. Would be interesting to hear your take, as well as if you've had a similar experience.
Yes, I will make you a video, and yes, I've had lots of experience in this department. The rule of thumb is your gut instinct. There is a fine line between living in a messy room and a room that is a biohazard and toxic to your health (or the child's health.) If people are living in conditions that can easily be addressed (meaning they have electricity, clean running water, readily available cleaning supplies) the recommendations for cleaning up that you gave them may be all they need. If there is suspected or confirmed abuse/neglect and a person's life is in danger, call for help. You may want to address your policy on this with the family when you do a walkthrough. Many families will call a house cleaner when they are already being visited by social services.
When I married, I moved in to my husbands home of 35 years (he was 5 when he moved here and now owns it). It had not been cleaned in over 20 years so dust was/is everywhere... loads of it. I'm beginning to believe this house is a dust factory because dust collects so quickly. I grew up in a humid part of the country and now live in an arid part and this dust issue is overwhelming. I could go through a whole box of swiffers in one cleaning! How do I get a handle on this? How often should I dust? Help! ::cough wheeze:: 😰
Some areas are prone to dust. Some of the drier more desert like areas of the country you'll find dust storms where there are not lots of trees or grass to block dust. So even the slightest breeze will kick up dust and send it whirling. Keeping doors and windows closed helps keep the dust at bay. Replacing air filters in the HVAC system monthly or bi-monthly can help a lot. Choosing a vacuum with great suction and HEPA filtration are a plus, along with a regular vacuuming schedule. Moving is not always an option but it may help. I moved from Utah (a very desert like area with lots of dust and sand storms) to North Carolina that is lush with trees and quite humid. I traded one allergy for another. My dust allergies subsided - but my allergies from pollen and mold kicked in. I wish there was an easy answer beyond regular cleaning and containment.
@@AskAngelaBrown thank you, this makes a lot of sense. I appreciate the tips and suggestions. Gonna step up the vacuuming and dusting game. Love your channel.
Yes, they now sell the Swiffer Duster washable heads here is the paid link amzn.to/3wZcWwu so you can see what I'm talking about. They are not as lightweight as the disposable ones so if you are dusting something fragile, do be careful. The tiny fibers can get caught on things like the curly designs in the wrought iron stair rails. You just have to be careful when using reusable ones. 👍
I recently bought a box of the swiffer 360 dusters. They look absolutely nothing like the product shown on the box. They're flat. Will not fluff up at all. Whereas the image on the box shows a super fluffy soft looking duster. I learned my lesson. I'll never buy another Swiffer product again.
+@DC-kj3in it’s true. I am sorry. I should have explained. They are super flat when they arrive in the box they pack several of them in there in a vacuum packed sort of way so that they’re skinny and will fit in the box. When you get them, you have to install them on the swiffer duster and then fluff them up with your hand or give them a really good shake. That way they open up and are able to be used.
@@AskAngelaBrown Oh my gosh, this is so awesome! I love using my Swiffer duster but felt guilty about the waste. It is so great to know I can recycle them. Thank you!
I was really disappointed by the Swiffer duster. I found it just streaked dust particles rather than picked them up. I tried using it on my tv, devices and entertainment center and everything just had streaks of dust on them and nothing on the duster. Literally had to go in there with a second product and cloth.
My experience has been the same as far as leaving streaks of dust. Do you use the pet version, by any chance? I’ve tried both versions and was disappointed (I foster and own dogs, a cat, and small birds. Maybe these work better on dust that doesn’t come from animals…?) Also, the duster head slips off the handle way too easily, and it doesn’t seem to hold much dust so I go through quite a few of them each time I clean. I’m much better off just using a slightly damp microfiber cloth.
@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you. But wait. There is more 😄. Two off topic great tips: - If a client uses the frying pan and there are (old) grease splatters everywhere, you erase these with ease with a slightly wet solid dishwasher cube. - If you have to go no. 2, light a match and blow it out. The sulfur eradicates unwanted odors immediately.
Those extra tips are the best John! I bought the matches and when my husband has to go, he has to go. Visitors doesn't bother him, outdoors it doesn't bother him. I lit a match and the air is really clear immediately. That matchbox is now permanently in my purse. I help my son by cleaning his house now and then. The grease is just whiped away. This will save me 10 to 15 minutes cleaning time. Awesome John. Thank you.
Are you using the Swiffer brand? I've noticed off brands (like the Great Value) brand falls off easily. I have not had a problem with the Swiffer refills. That said, I know some people are using hair bands (paid link amzn.to/3DOFdZK) to lock them in place. Take the Swiffer Refill and the top part off the duster. Roll a clear hair elastic over the yellow part of the handle where the white part meets. Snap the white part back in place. Put the Swiffer head back on the fork. Roll the band up over the base of the Swiffer Duster to lock the Refill in place. Presto!
There must be some kind of secret I've tried a swiffer twice over the years and the cloth always comes off the stick lol...like when you did the blinds mine would of slipped off
I've heard that happening to people before, but in the 15 to 18 years I've been using them, I can only count a handful of times it's happened to me.
Are you using the Swiffer brand? I've tried other knock off brands for the replacement heads and they never stay on well. I've never had any problems with the Swiffer brand, although they are more expensive than the off brands.
The replacement dusters are not washable. If you are a homeowner cleaning your own home, you can get several uses out of them if the area you're cleaning isn't too dusty. Thank you for watching! 😀

@@AskAngelaBrown I moved from my apartment of eleven years (2011), to a two bedroom apartment. When I was cleaning up all the dust dinosaurs (I did clean the apartment regularly), I had a very bad asthma attack. I drove to the UC, which closed an hour before I got there at 5pm. What??? I drove to my dad’s house, put my head over a bowl with steaming water, while my dad called my PCP. We drove to CVS, where there was a line. Everyone took one look at me, and shoved me to the front of the line. Whew! That was too close! Live (fortunately) and learn. (Wear a mask 😷.)

My issue with disposable products like this is that they are terrible for the environment. When you throw things in the trash, they end of in landfill or even worse, in our oceans and waterways (Google “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It’s an eye-opener). Our planet is dying and choked with garbage. This is why I try to use as many reusable and non-toxic products as I possibly can. People have dusted with a plain damp rag for decades. Just throw in the washing machine and reuse.

I finally found some here in Australia at Costco and bought a box. I love them. Thanks for the recommendation
Dee, I appreciate you reaching out to leave a comment about Swiffer dusters. Enjoy! 😊
The car idea is amazing! I can't believe I never thought of that!
👍👍
Great idea , cleaning the vehicle .
Love the Swiffer Dusters!
I’m so glad you like the Swiffer duster and have found it useful for dust and dog hair. Thanks for taking the time to reach out too. 😊
Here is a link to the Swiffer company: www.swiffer.com/en-us/contact-us (paid link)
I suggest you reach out to see if they have any tips on their product.
@@AskAngelaBrownThank you for this info. I will reach out to them.
Great tips-- especially to keep one in the car. Thanks again!
Monika, Thanks so much for watching the video!
These are great in combo with the extender wand to dust ceiling fans and cobwebs.
IMO
@@AskAngelaBrown thanks for the heads up, always watch your channel, even tho i dont always comment, for the last 5 years anyhow.
I just bought a box of the 2d ones and wow, I'm impressed. I always thought they were a gimmick given the aggressive marketing behind them, but it turns out they actually work amazingly well.
Guess they just got a new customer.
Glad you like them!

I love my swiffer duster! I can change the head a couple times during a cleaning. I use it for so many things. I Do like the scented ones’ as well
That's great! Thanks for watching!
Never thought about using this on my stairs before! I'm going to have to try it. Seems so much more effective than trying to sweep them.
Yes, at the end of a clean it's a great way to work your way down the stairs and out of the house. Let me know how it works for you.
I love to dust/swiffer the car when I have an extra minute!! Thanks Angela. I stopped using them a couple years ago, but jumped back on the bandwagon!
Thank you for sharing your input, I appreciate it.
Heck i almost...consider it fun, lol.😊 Thanks!

amazing cleaning tips - I never thought of using the Swiffer in my car to dust the dashboard -yay!

I want to know this too ! I love books - obvis by my name LOL
Yes, The books can be dusted with the Swiffer Duster and the shelves can be dusted, then wiped down with a damp microfiber cloth. When the shelves are dry, the books can be returned to the shelves.

I found your reference to their recycling program in one of the comments. Thanks so much for sharing that!
Sure. The Terracycle program www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/swiffer is wonderful.
Thank you for mentioning this June! The waste of using these makes me cringe - after watching this video they seem so helpful though! Really good to know there’s a way to be more conscious about disposable products.
Could you spray a little water on the duster so it can lock in or clean dust better?

Another great video. And the car bit at the end!!!! So good, i’m running to the store now to get one for the car😂
Hahaha...glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Hey, Angela! I remembered you had a video talking about if a cleaning business owner should lease/own an office for their cleaning business. Do you still have that video available? My business has developed at a point that I start to think about this question.
Hi! Yes, I do! Here's the link:

Love the idea of keeping one in the car.
Yes! You’ll have to let me know if you start keeping one in your car too. 😊
I keep a pack of thin rubber bands that I use to secure the duster to the handle, works well.
@@AskAngelaBrown Oh thank you Angela! I had tried to fumble a rubber band there before, but the result was unsatisfactory - I stupid nut didn't come up with the idea of attaching it in the way you described.

I believe I heard swiffer let's you send in used dusters for recycling. Please post about that. Thank you.
Long 360 is my favorite tool, except for magic eraser.
I love them both too. 👍
I had gotten the extender for the ceiling fans. Now if only I remembered where I put the replacements…
Oh no, I hate when that happens! Hope you find them.
Great video. Really appreciate it.
Glad it was helpful!❤

@@Mikkibriteside as well do I.

@@Mikkibriteside I am so grateful. She has made my business so much better.
Are they biodegradable? I wonder how many end up in landfills. I love the ability. But not the fact that it becomes land fill waste.

@@AskAngelaBrown Thanks!
I was really disappointed by the Swiffer duster. I found it just streaked dust particles rather than picked them up. I tried using it on my tv, devices and entertainment center and everything just had streaks of dust on them and nothing on the duster. Literally had to go in there with a second product and cloth.
me too - and I purchased what is supposed to be the real thing off amazon :(
What do you use instead for dusting?
My experience has been the same as far as leaving streaks of dust. Do you use the pet version, by any chance? I’ve tried both versions and was disappointed (I foster and own dogs, a cat, and small birds. Maybe these work better on dust that doesn’t come from animals…?)
Also, the duster head slips off the handle way too easily, and it doesn’t seem to hold much dust so I go through quite a few of them each time I clean.
I’m much better off just using a slightly damp microfiber cloth.
If the Swiffer is not too dirty, you can clean them in a little handwash in the sink and reuse
Thanks for tip and for joining us here today. It's great to have you here.
@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you. But wait. There is more 😄.
Two off topic great tips:
- If a client uses the frying pan and there are (old) grease splatters everywhere, you erase these with ease with a slightly wet solid dishwasher cube.
Thank you.
That was great tips
Thanks so much!
When my Swiffer is too dirty for indoor use, I dust cobwebs off of outdoor light fixtures before throwing it away.
I love that idea. Thanks so much for sharing this tip with us. 👍
HOW DO I KEEP THE DUSTER ON THE HEAD? It keeps falling off!
Presto!
I also use them on mirrors or windows if they aren't dirty, just dusty.
Love this! Thanks for sharing your input, we appreciate it!
My husband sells electronics, major appliances, and jewelry. When he's at work you will always see a Swiffer poking out of his back pocket.
😂😂😂 Hooray! Me and your husband are twins.
They don’t stay on very well and the holding slots tear way too easily
Are you using the Swiffer brand? I've tried other knock off brands for the replacement heads and they never stay on well. I've never had any problems with the Swiffer brand, although they are more expensive than the off brands.
is it wasible???
The replacement dusters are not washable. If you are a homeowner cleaning your own home, you can get several uses out of them if the area you're cleaning isn't too dusty. Thank you for watching! 😀
I would think you would need more than 1 swifter.
You might need more than one if there is an extreme amount of dust.
Swiffer should pay you.
Right? I agree!😄
@@AskAngelaBrown So I tried your idea of using Swiffer in my car. I can't begin to explain to you what a life changing moment this is. Seriously though. 🥲🥲 Tears of joy.

Do you know what’s more expensive than Swiffer refills? Having an (dust-triggered) asthma attack that lands you in the ER. Or worse!
Saving on refills is great, but preventing health issues is even better. Smart thinking on prioritizing healthy cleaning habits!👍
Dollar Tree sells the same thing. I keep one in my SUV.
Don't pay extra.

I think the duster is the WORST PRODUCT I HAVE EVER BOUGHT
That's an interesting take. What makes you think so?
The long handled Swiffer is my best friend. It gets in corners my vac doesn’t reach, plus baseboards, high spots etc. And all the things you mentioned. They’ve really gone up in cost tho 🥲
Are you talking about the Swiffer Duster Extender 6ft? That is my new favorite tool as well. I use it for so many things and you're right they've gone up in cost. I think they are now around $15 for the starter kit. amzn.to/3wY4P3o (ref: paid link)
I understand your concern. Swiffer dusters are recyclable. Here is a link for more information: www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/swiffer
