  • Bye Bye USB been nice knowing you
    Been busy developing new modular hardware for AgOpenGPS. Been working on a PoE UDP Modular system. This system should be less susceptible to our voracious appetite for change as well as unforeseen hardware shortage.
    This is not a released system yet, this is a sneak peak of how the system would work to generate interest and discussion on telegram and the discourse forum. It will finally be released after extensive testing. Date Unknown.

    Fantastic project. I live in Brazil and I'm starting to learn about agopengps. Prepared to mount a system on a small tractor. Thanks for your contributions to the community.

      No problems, just trying to implement changes that make the system simpler.

    Great video (as always!) I really like the idea of connecting and powering everything with PoE. Great way of cutting down and keeping cables tidy. I’m still running V2 but added an Ethernet shield last year and it’s so much more reliable then usb and no messing with com ports. Keep up the good work, I might have to think about getting a teensy!👍

    This will solve a whole bunch of issues that are arising from the ever increasing number of boards and steer methods! AOG needs some sort of 'development' window (form). Somewhere with inputs or sliders that output to a PGN. This would make experimenting with new ideas so much simpler.

      A dev pgn and window would be cool I agree.

    UDP is great but is it verified on another layer that it's reached the destination? I'm tracking this project from the beggings and it's the most awesome project, next to ROS😊!

      Think of UDP as a radio station, its just dumping the data out to anyone who wants to hear it. There is new data every 100ms, so no need to verify just keep streaming the new data out. If it was not received it was probably junk to start with.

      @@potatofarmer i didn't realized that even MQTT can go over UDP, but that would be a little overhead

    Hi, I am using AgOpenGPS for some time, but only with GNSS so far (not using the RTK, since my setup is single band only and therefor the RTK is not much stable). I am thinking about extending it with IMO, maybe RTK GNSS and maybe steering. Since I dont have these yet, I have read about it only on forum, but I have few questions/points:
    First I like the idea to have GNSS (and other) in separate boards, because I use GNSS also outside the tractor for accurate measuring (with RTK using rtklib), so disassembling gnss from the tractor system every time I need it would not be practical (I will use custom "board" for gnss to fulfill my needs anyway, probably with rpi).
    If I understand it correctly, the "nav" board has the IMU, WAS and teensy? I would personally put wheel angle sensor together with steering motor, since they both are used for steering, and IMU together with GNSS (or put them separately), since the IMU is helping GNSS to get the correct position. But as I said I don't quite understand it yet.
    Anyway, I have the question regarding the IMU, I have read somewhere on forum that teensy is there make sure IMU and GNSS data are read at the same time (it takes some time to calculate F9P for example the RTK data), so that AOG app can work with the right data. Is it working good to have the IMU and GNSS on separate boards and communicating over the UTP?
    And last, what IMU do you think is compatible with most boards for AOG, I read about adafruit BNO085, but it looks like you are using something else, right?
    Keep up the good work

      Teensy 4.1 does all of the functions the nano used to, plus syncs the imu and gps reading to make a custom NMEA sentence called Panda.
      As of the time of this comment the IMU to get is the BNO085. Both ali express and adafruit versions work. IMU by itself will not make major improvements vs moving to dual band rtk.

    Do you need a udp Port on your Windows tablet or is a usb Port good for this

    • @potatofarmer
      @potatofarmer  Год назад

      You will need one ethernet port on the tablet, on small tablets that only have USB there are USB to Ethernet adaptors available. But unlike a USB com port connection, once you set up the ethernet adaptor its set for life.

    Hello , I use trimble ag252 antenna and I think this antenna is locked for RTK , do you have some solution about this problem ? Thank you and how to contact you

    • @potatofarmer
      @potatofarmer  10 месяцев назад

      The Ag252 is an antenna and nothing more.
      The lock is in the receiver that is connected to the 252.
      For less money than a Trimble unlock you can build AOG and use whatever features you want!

      Come read on the forum all about it. Build an AOG system, and never pay an unlock again🎉.
      A system you can fix yourself!
