  • Adding 802.3at active POE based section control to AgOpenGPS
With PANDA the main AOG board has moved more toward being all in one having all connections return to one board. But with POE a modular system may actually be easier to Install. How do you know unless you build it?
With a web of networked devices powered by the Ethernet cable itself the UDP connection becomes supercharged. Also with safety in mind using 802.3 at POE standard the powered device auto negotiates the power required to run itself. No chance of inadvertent shorts, with 2KV isolation transformers on each end.
Ethernet cable is cheap and field repairable, also making custom cables is easy. The modular appeal allows the hardware upgrade of modules as long as the program variables are constant. If the Data is on the network any device can use it.
POE is going to make AgOpenGps Installation a snap!
**** This is not a mainstream AgOpenGPS modification currently, if you would like to share the .ino's let me know. This project will be changing rapidly.

It gets better, shortly after filming got the 15th and 16th sections to work. Pins 0rx and 1tx were being disabled due to the Serial.Begin() for the debugging messages.

So this should also work with a router added to the AIO pcb I would think?

Im a little bit of a noob around agopen (i use cerea gps for a year now) currently building myself a agopen unit. Like the vids! Learning a lot from them! Why do you ‘need to’ use peo instet of only udp?

POE is just an easy way to make the boards plug and play without having to string out additional power wires to everything.
The modular system is currently an unofficial modification, but I like to show that you do not need to be a certified electronics and software engineer to make major changes to this guidance system.
I grew up on a Cattle farm, and never went to University, Just some college and trades.
Those who use the equipment are the best to design and develop it, way to go farmers.

Thats why i like the vids, i am just a young farmer working on my dads farm without expensive elektronics, didnt know a thing about elektrics but stil builded a good working cerea gps system, agopen is a little bit harder with the pcb’s and all but its a fun thing to learn new things and building a cool system.
Okey so if you only run udp you need to power the board separate?

@@BasBeuwer333 If the loads are small 15watts per channel POE “power over ethernet” can power the board from the poe switch to the device. Larger loads like the steering motor will always require their own power source.
But electronics modules can use poe or a direct power wire, with udp.

Hello, what gps module is that, i see its u block, is it f9p or something else?

It is the Ublox f9p. It is packaged by Sparkfun Electronics. The commonly used board for AOG is packaged by Ardusimple. I just like the Sparkfun.

      Hahahahah,
May you get the chance to fly over the ocean, at 42,000ft in a plane, and look out the window and have your two remaining braincells be amazed.

@@potatofarmer if the horizon is falling with a 6 foot elevation at 2.99 miles away. Then the horizon should only fall when you gain altitude the fact that it continues to rise and stay at relative a level as high as you can go defies your globe logic.
we have observations at over 10 times cruising altitude that still shows a distant flat horizon rising to relative eye level.

@@potatofarmer did you know GPS is based on a Cartesian coordinate system that requires its zeniths to be parallel? Do you even know how latitude and longitude was originally derived and how to repeat the process today?
No worries. The earth is not changing shape and is not going to start moving. You have all the time you need to figure this out.
