Hi, I'm born in 1970 in Romania. On those times we couldn't watch on the TV this "Monsters of Music". But I remember gathering at some friends to watch, all night long, video tapes with this TV shows recorded on video casettes "smuggled" by lory drivers . The flats windows were covered with thick blankets to not let any from streets to see the tv light at 2 or 3 AM and the sound was very low to not be heard by noighbours. Sad times but we were very happy to watch them. After 10 hours of watching the TV we were like zombies. On that times it was a "black market" with video tapes with music and movies.

A similar situation existed in the Soviet Union at that time, there was no music, separate recordings and nothing more. Today I regret that I missed a lot, but I caught up with what we have now, the music became heavier and more powerful and energetic, and everything was so attractive back then.

Saw Roxy twice back in the 70s, once for the Siren tour. Virginia Plain makes it clear why they hit the charts right away. Bryan Ferry lost his edge at some point, became more of a crooner. I saw Alice Cooper on the Killer tour. That was the best concert I ever saw. The audience went nuts. I never considered Alice Cooper glam. They were more like early punk.

As you said, she crashed the car after drinking at a restaurant all night and at 5am he was dead. She was charged with being unfit to drive but never faced a hearing because she ran off to America and she couldn’t be extradited. Can you imagine June doing that?

What a nice compilation! That Cockney Rebel song makes me cry for some reason, there's such a sense of disappointment and loss in the song. I know this music is called glam now but in America at least in the seventies, it was called glitter.

At the time, I didn't realize Quiet Riot was merely a cover band for Slade songs. Kevin even sounded like him, and he tried to act as crazy as Nodder did. Direct rip-off.

DuBrow might have sounded similar to the great god Nod on record but live he simply couldn't compete. Admittedly the guitarist in QR was streets ahead of Dave but he is only a average player in fact, he wasn't even the best guitarist in Slade! That honour goes to Jim who as we now know recorded nearly all Slades later material solo with the rest of the band coming in later to do overdubs and for Nod to add his trademark vocals.

Sweet were great I agree but there was only one original Glamrock man…Marc Bolan. He started it and the rest followed and jumped on his bandwagon. Slade had tried many genres…including the skinhead look…but Dave Hill said in an interview that he saw Marc at a concert, before Glam had appeared, and Marc wore a feather boa and had a silver tear drop under one eye. Dave knew something big was about to happen. As soon as T.Rex hit the big time with all the glitter and suchlike they all joined in!

OK John, I can agree with that, of course Marc started it all, I should have said, for me Sweet is Glamrock, but they were missing here, so that's probably why I posted, I mean, don't make such a (nice) compilation and then leave out one of the biggest acts, as Marc might have invented it somehow, but they sure brought it to another level. And of course also Bowie was missing, as important as Marc, so perhaps that's why I commented that why
