Magnetometers have many uses. Finding unexploded ordnance, oil and gas pipeline and geophysical survey, shipwrecks and salvage, to name a few. The Magnetometer will sense any anomaly in the earth's magnetic field. I work for a different Magnetometer company, with specialized sensors, but didn't see an answer and thought I'd respond :) Hope this helps. Gina

I actually used one to detect faults as well as abandoned well heads back in the 80s.
