  • Through a collaborative effort with researchers from the University of Kentucky, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Camp Nelson museum we were able to conduct a geophysical survey of the area surrounding our current excavations and a large area due east of James Fort.

Whenever I see that equipment, I have happy memories of watching Time Team.

Once again a wonderful report from the Jamestown project. I'm writing a history on an 18th century Quaker merchant flour miller, Thomas Livezey (1723-1790) who was said to own & operate one of the largest mills in the colonies. His mill was torn down by the Fairmount Park Commission not long after they purchased all the properties to form Phila's Fairmount park between 1880 and 1910. I learned about the two critical instruments that do nondestructive examination to find possible interesting areas to do further work on. Please do a follow up video on the results from this work here.

This was over six years ago already, too.
Along with most Geophysical technologies, both GPR's and Magnetometers have advanced exponentially since then, rendering results they could have only wished for back then, not so long ago indeed.
Of course, they've since brought a wide battery of scientific techniques to bear on the location, before and since, and especially with their close relationship with the Smithsonian in Washington DC over the years, are hardly at any disadvantage in such respects. 👍

I totally love getting your updates. I want to find my great grandfather's cabin and the old school house remains back in Missouri. Now all I have to do is get GPR and grab those guys from Kentucky. ;-)

Hello, start with a good metal detector to search for your grandfathers cabin and the school house , much faster, cheaper than G.P.R. !! You will know if you have discovered an old home site because of , # 1 a stone lined cellar hole, #2 an unusual or unnatural depression in the ground , broken pieces of pottery and glass and once you have started metal detecting the presence of iron artifacts which are prevalent around old home sites....Good Luck !!

I get what the equipment does. I was hoping they would show results of the scans.
