The thing with the guy chopping the wood ties back to the idea that Jesus walks even with the worst of people and wants to save all of them ("to the hustlers, killers, murderers, drug dealers..."). I remember seeing an interview where Kanye talks about it.
The guy chopping the tree is the Klansman at the end of the video making a cross to burn, and in the vid a wind is sent to blow down the cross down a hill. The Klansman chases it and tries to carry it back up, setting himself on fire, but it starts raining, which both puts out the fire on the cross and saves the man's life. There's a flash of an image of an angel showing that this is a divine intervention; God rejects the hatred of the Klansman, hence why he blew down and put out the flaming cross, but he also wants to bring sinners to repentance, which is why he saves the Klansman.
Amazing explanation! Thanks so much for this perceptive insight - Kai
Thank you for pointing readers to the Most High!
Not to negate anything you said, but they say art is interpreted by the observer in their own way and thus takes takes on different meanings for each individual. For me, the chopping of a tree wasn’t literal but symbolic. A tree represents life and growth, so for me it represented an attempt to cut life short and the stoppage of progress and growth as human beings for foolish reasons or intent. Just my personal interpretation.
@@travisbickle1552 I agree!!!!!! Art is subjective and I prefer your take.
@@jacquelinefirkins994 See and I disagree, this take makes no sense vs OP’s post is perfect. Literally right on point 👍
What makes this song so different is Kanye is talking about God in a time where it’s not ‘cool’ to and managed to make it a huge hit without it sounding preachy or forced. I believe his emotions surrounding his faith
Well said!
Well said!
Well is not that he really was about god. Is that he was forced to believe in god, he raps because he has too to make it but he’s not a model. Trying to survive.
Kanye and DMX (1st) rapped about god, and those song rarely got spin on radio tell a lot about radio and corporate america.
@@horaciogonzalez4070 he wasn’t forced to be a believer, where are you getting that?
Old Kanye truly undefeated no one is better at putting a album together
He went to play with the devils!
He's still the same person. Sometimes, we take our eye off God. This is when we end up lost. God is our navigational system
I miss the old Kanye
"George Bush doesn't care about black people" he's always been Ye lol
Love Kanye but Dre? Eminem? 50?
The way your dad is opened to wanting to listen and learn what the feelings and thoughts that were behind the music you choose, shows a lot. I love how he actually FEELS the music, and how he can emotionally understand it. This idea is one of the most beautifully put together ideas on RUclips to me. The rawness and realism of his reactions, for me draws me in every time. And when you, (Kai) KNOW a part is coming that will “hit” in a certain way, you always look at your father’s face to see his, usually surprised facial expressions…. I absolutely LOVE this!!!!
This comment kinda made my eyes tear up a little bit because every little thing you noticed is 100% true and it’s a beautiful thing to witness for both of them.
We need more people like his dad in the world right now.
I agree. ❤️
ruclips.net/video/b-dlcNRZ2BA/видео.html
I love this!!
The halo in the beginning of the video is something i never noticed. Great breakdown and explanation for dad on this video. Great job as always 👏
The halo turns to horns at the end
Ask your dad what he thought about rap before and to now after hearing all this music
I wanna know that too
Definitely would like to see a video with his answer.
Good question
He said multiple times that he changed his mind about rap music
Please
There is actually 3 different clips to this song.... this is the most recent one.
The first was Kanye in a church spitting the lyrics as though giving a sermon.
The second is in black & white and depicts Kanye walking through the neighborhood with Jesus walking a step behind him.
This 3rd one was when he was given a budget after the success of the song.
I thought I was crazy lol, was a whole other video in Jeen-Yuhs
@@roger5mNL yeah same
Diamonds are forever another good one 🔥
I love your dads reactions and understanding even though he’s in the generation that normally wouldn’t give this music a chance. And I love how you explain and let him figure it out for himself. Great Channel!
Thanks, man. More good stuff to come!
Man... you two are wonderful. Y'alls relationship and conversations really make me think about my dad. I miss the dude a lot, he was my best friend. You looking to adopt a grown man into the family? I need some dad time.
🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🙏
As a film student my favorite part of the video is the light above Kanye’s head that is supposed to look like a Halo
I have noticed after watching several of these fantastic reviews that dad's whole body has gradually evolved into a cool swing and head nod 🕺🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️
You guys should react to the “Me against the world” album by 2pac or just specifically “Death around the corner”
Very underrated track by pac listeners. One of the more angrier tracks pac has done, very dark as well
Geto Boys - Mind Playing Tricks On Me. I think this would be a perfect song to listen to together and i would love to see your reactions ;)
You have a really unique format there especially for those who did not experience such activities with their father.
Keep it up! David from Germany.
Dude. Yes. Being from Houston I can speak on Mind playing tricks on me. Legendary track.
Yesssss A classic
I grew up loving Geto Boys. Legendary fa sho!
Also from Germany here! I would love them listening to that song.
We need some Atmosphere on this channel pls. "Yesterday" and "Guarentees" are some good picks to react to. Really great underrated group.
agreed, woman with the tattooed hands
Everything from slug is solid💪🏽
Naw that's just corny music
@@clarissaturcios2346 Call it what you want, No hate here. You'll recognize good music when your a little older ✌
Not sure if this was mentioned yet but this song was co-written/created by another famous Chicago MC named Rhymefest. you can see/hear him on the song "Brand New" WITH Kanye.
Love your videos so much! The respect between the two of you. 🙏😊 My 20yr old son and I have the same conversations about music, usually in the car. 😊
Kanye's music has been on my Playlist more than any other artist the last couple of years. As with your Dad, this whole new world of music opened up to me through my son sharing with me. Love this! ❤️
That is awesome! - Kai's dad
When are you guys doing Jay Z's Reasonable Doubt????
I'm interested in hearing what dad thinks of it.
Gotta play some Tribe Called Quest. Also, maybe some Jurassic 5.
And you had a Smiths record up in a previous video. Need to play “How Soon is Now.” But your dad prob knows that one…
I've been watching this for 4 days now.....bro I love the Jesus walks reaction I think your dad was just as amazed as I was when I heard this back in the days ....ima keep watching 👀 I love you guys
Keep it up guys! Love these videos and the dynamic between you two, it reminds me of me and my father. Also, you guys definitely bring light into my days. Best to you both!
Thanks so much Matt! Appreciate you watching 🤞🏼
The guy cutting down the tree ( his soul imo) is using that to make the cross. Essentially creating his own cross to bare. Later we see him as the klansman, and he burns the cross (his hate) , his cross topples over and he tries to save it and his own hate engulfs him. Just my take.
As a minister, I appreciate your take.
Very poignant observation..
Yes
Maybe you can show your dad the video from Kanye's album 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'. It's listed under 'Runaway (full-length film)'. Definitly one of my favorite albums from him with a very good video. I enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work...
Edit: Also a song that i think your dad appreciates is 'Nas ft. Damian Marley - Patience'
This is why Kanye West will always be my favorite artist. I love this man I love his work, people get tripped up on his discretion but she cannot deny his contribution to society in music and fashion and everything.
Them 👞 🗑.
He didn't even write this single
@@PoetPariahMusic but he was bold enough to do it...
@@andreajackson5293 bold enough to perform a song he didn't write
@@PoetPariahMusic umm then you would need to not listen to music because many have writers...
I made it to the live chat! Lol yay. Love your reactions guys. Thank you.
It’s crazy because I was gonna suggest you show your dad some of the music videos from the 90s and 2000s because they really told a story back then. Maybe that could be something you do on your channel too. Loving the content ❤️
Great video! sorry if you have already, but have you both watched This Is America? I fell like that's a song that NEEDS the visuals to fully make sense and would be great to see Dad react to!
I don't care what anyone says or what anyone thinks of Kanye West, he is brilliant, and although I haven't necessarily agreed with the direction of some of his albums stylistically, NO ONE will ever take away how healing, inspirational, and brilliant The College Dropout was.
Agree. Love this song.
What talent
@@chrissutton6034Lol chris id like to know what you think talent is
This is the first video of yours that I've watched the whole way through. You and your dad really seems to respect each other. It's amazing that you guys can do this. Amazing. ❤
God this brings back memories....thank you for these!!!! Awesome song and video.....love your dad! 🤘
OMG you guys did this justice.. you guys even caught small details that I hadn't.. well done
Pops gotta see the POWER video!
Love you both. Blessings eternal
Great review! The guy that chopped down the tree built that cross, that eventually set him on fire, tumbling down the hill.
Right
Thanks for that. It all makes perfect sense now! - Kai’s dad
*chopped ❤️
Another cool video. I think you've got a really good balance between full album reactions and single track reactions.
You and your dad are like me and my dad. Love the relationship mane!
These videos are amazing, although I’m slightly envious of your Dad, I’d love to be able to listen to some of these iconic songs for the first time again.
If you guys are on a Kanye beat right now, I'd recommend Diamonds Are Forever, and the short but awesome Power.
The OG music video of "Jesus Walks" is amazing also! Loved this video!!
This is an awesome channel I love the the genuine reactions
I was really hoping you would show your pops this video!!!
Great guys, keep doing more classic Rap Songs.. like LUPE - kick push part 2 it’s incredible..
You guys are the best I love your channel 💪🏽💯
Oooh we're getting into videos yay!
Kai, papa Kai is a treasure, your guys's relationship is a treasure. Cherish him dearly. Papa Kai you are raising an incredible young man. Peace and love to you guys always🙏🏼💜
🙏🏼💜
I’ve actually never watched this video before and i bought this album the day it came out. Great reaction.
great video keep em coming!
I love this channel and you guys❤💯 you're awesome. I've always loved that video, it's very deep. Ya'll are 🔥🔥👍😃
I believe the man cutting the tree down is him making a cross. Which he wears a hood at the end. There’s multiple interpretations you can go with this i think. Racism being the main focal point obviously but the fact that the cross symbolizes the ultimate sacrifice and love. Something racism has no part in. That’s why it’s engulfs the man in flames. Obviously open to interpretation.
Yayyy😃 a video, I’m glad dad got to see a great music video.
Hi guys again another amazing video👍👍I always look forward to what next will be presented....thanks guys. Oh by the way Kai
niceee shirt😊😊😊😊😉😉
Can you guys do Stan by Eminem . Id love to see your dad's take on that song . Also definitely should listen to Graduation to its my favorite kanye album.
Absolutely. Stan was insane. Needs a reaction.
College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation Kanye was the best Kanye imo.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Omg yes! That video would be awesome to react to
Dad needs to hear Yeezus sometime
Haha your dad looked excited to see the video before you pressed play 😂 great reaction. I remember this coming out.. heard nothing like it!
Would love to see you and your dad do Twista - Hope or P Diddy - Missing you.
Also love the way you can hold your dad when he is moving through his emotions in some of the other vids. Big props and love to you both
Perfect timing 🤗
Dope reaction!!!
Another great video
In my opinion the chopping of the tree represents how people can unknowingly participate in their own destruction, because they dont see the significance of the simple things around them, that embody life, such as trees/roots/nature. Everything in life has some degree of significance.
Great video. 😊
The video is amazing on its own and once the audio comes in ... it completes the entire video and takes it just over the moon.
One of my favorite songs 🔥🔥🔥
Heartless 💔 - Ye
havent seen or heard this song in years, gave me chills again
Been so long since I've heard this one!
Please do Kayne runaway reaction, the full video, with your dad. Classic song!
💙 Great Review. *First Time Viewer.* #BeBlessed. 🙏🏿
i forgot how much i loved this song. i would listen to this song like 10x a day.
I tried looking into it, but all I found was someone else's thoughts "A man is seen cutting down a tree now. I believe this to be a figurative reference to his cutting down of his own spiritual and learning growth." which I thought was an interesting take.
I know this is about you showing your dad your music but I would love to show you both some of the UK Rap and Hip-Hop scene and get your reaction I think it would be very interesting from an outsiders perspective
I remember this song, he used to write such good music. First group of albums 👍🏻
Song and video are a masterpiece
Gangstarr is great as well. Check out the song "Work" or "Betrayal"
I'm a new fan from South Africa. I love these reactions. The Dad is just awesome.
May I suggest one or two songs that your Dad might like:
1. PdotO - Dear God
2. Shane Eagle - Julia
3. A-Reece - Dichotomy
4. A-Reece - Mark 15:35
5. PdotO - Soaked in Bleach
Love this
One of my favorite rap songs
You guys have to watch the Netflix documentary (obviously off camera) just to get a bit more insight and fill in the gaps, especially seeing as you and your dad seem to enjoy Kanye a lot. Good job as usual!
Awesome thanks
iconic period ✨
I would enjoy a reaction to Runaway. The song first and later the extended video.
I like these because you can tell he hasn’t already heard these like most reaction videos
Next do “Diamonds from Sierra Leone” video 🙌🏿
hope the college dropout was the beginning of your journey into kanye discography. great video btw!! :)
You should show him Brenda's got a baby music video. 👍👍👍
Never noticed the Halo as well.Crazy!
Show your dad the other 2 versions .. the one he directs is my favorite
7:31 The burly guy chopping the tree was building the cross that burned at the end
great vid as always! I recommend you guys react to a tribe called quest, especially their album the low end theory. Its the best jazz rap album and I think you would enjoy it
This was my first Kanye experience and I really enjoyed it.
The way the end of the song starts to fade into Never let me down leaves me longing to hear it
I love this Song from kanye West, It's already so old but won't be boring
Your dad is very perceptive, I have watched it so many times and have never noticed the flicking 😇 halo
WE LOVE YOU KANYE ♥️
Another amazing video, would love to see more video reactions. Childish Gambo 'this is America' would be a great reaction video
I remember him shooting 2 videos for this song
I was hoping for a reaction of the music video
Power is another one of Kanyes visually stunning videos
Do more videos reviews after hearing the song!!!
"All falls down" is his 1st release...you guys should do it for a review....the video is awesome!! ( The song WON'T disappoint )
Makes me remember when my dad finally listened/respected some of my music years later after simply calling it rap crap when I was a kid..
The movie "Jarhead" made me love this song.
The tree represents.....The powers that be cutting down the lives which is death.... Tree's of life... love Dad's reactions to especially rap music 🎶🎵
