I really appreciated the distinction too. I used to primarily have sentimental friendships. Now, I have mostly active friendships… but find myself really having to stay on top of keeping up with everyone.

Hi Shan! I have read your book “The Game of Desire.” It’s an amazing read, and I’ve learned a lot about myself as I’ve trucked through it as if I was one of the girls in your experiment. However, I am still struggling to meet my forever guy. Somehow, I always attract practical bums on dating apps, married men at bars, and a whole lot of men who text me to death but lead to nothing of any significance. My dream guy would be a blue collar or higher man who has stability, a good work ethic, and would be a provider. Someone who even at our age (I’m 38) still likes to go out and have fun, and would enjoy traveling and things with me. Would you have any suggestions of places I could go to meet men like this? ITS ALL MENTAL. i live in nj now and its no different than living in Toronto. Ive grown to see most of my fellow americans as relatively naive, canadians relatively stupid but I digress. You can make it if you have a plan and the the energies to go for it. Right now, im thinking of going for my phd. I might stick it out in the northeast or return to toronto for that. but its always good to get out of your comfort zone. but i ve to admit i still cant get over the over judgement and owl stares when im back home in toronto. its weird and nauseating...
If you’re talking about things like PhD yeah you should be fine in either country lol but if we’re talking about stuff like the entertainment business, being in the states is 100% a better choice.
I never knew your origin story. I moved to Kits in Vancouver July 31, 2014 but live in victoria since 2015. We swapped! I’m about to hit 10 years so this video interests me. I miss LA as a born and raised Cali Girl. There are many things I regret about coming to Canada, but I’m a citizen now with a kid, so I’m making the most of it. But; since I’m almost 22 years in my music career, I definitely have missed the opportunities I left behind in LA. I love seeing the real life view of your set. You look so beautiful and vibrant on camera. But then you see your "set" is just one chair tucked in a corner shoes on the floor. I think it just shows aspiring content creators that A. Not everything is as it appears. And B. You don't need some big lavish high budget set to create content. I mean obviously your equipment now is expensive and high quality but you didn't start off that way. Thank you for being an example and inspiration to me and others! ❤❤❤
@shanboody For women in particular when we are not in the active phase of a friendship we categorize the friendship as having ended. I wish there was more mainstream awareness of the sentimental friendship category. That seems to align with a growth mindset because it means that you’ve come to the understanding in life that things will fluctuate and relationships-especially friendships-will too. Going from active to sentimental doesn’t necessarily equate to not caring anymore. Also the montage of your life at the end was so nice. I’m genuinely so happy for you. Literally started from the bottom and you’re there. I love the versatility of all the hats you wear and how you always honor your journey by including old footage from the past and reflecting with enriching convos from the present. You’re so well rounded, ugh! This may be the push to get out from my hometown that I need. I travel all the time but I think setting roots somewhere else- even if I end up returning- helps with self development. Also, your kids are adorbs!!

I was hoping that moving to a “smaller city” in relation to LA or NYC would help me to flourish in my music career but as the years go by I see that this area is not for me. I would move back home as the benefit of moving to DC has increased my financial opportunity but I can’t take the cold weather anymore. I’ve always wanted to move to LA even as a kid, not for Hollywood but for the weather, culture and much like NYC, opportunity. I’ve decided to take the leap finally and move LA. Your video/reflection really helped confirm my choice and that with everything you must try. I always have a good feeling whenever I go to LA. I look forward to being a part of and building great networks/communities when set roots out there 🫶🏾
As a Canadian content creator (part Time) and my partner is a full time creative we did wonder if we had better opportunities if we move to the states we have seen many Canadians RUclipsrs move from Ottawa and Toronto (stromedy, the anazala family , the rush fam etc) to many parts of the states ....so while I get how it's not necessarily- is the case .. unfortunately monetization here is really restricted. Unless Canada laxes its laws . There will be more creatives from Canada migrating to the states ...we always wondered if we got big would that means we have to move to the states... anyway...thank you for this transparency Shan. It really helped.
