When we reject the law God gave to Moses then the result is a void that man (false teachers and false prophets) will quickly come in to fill with their own man made laws.
Long hair in the first century was determined by pulling your hair back behind the head.... anything that hung over the fist was cut off. It wasn’t a sin but it was a matter of being proper. We know it wasn’t a sin because we know that a Nazarite would where it long. God will not contradict himself. But in matters of proper... there were ordinances, customs, traditions and social norms that needed to be addressed among the Israelites and in the assemblies (ie Corinthian church).
We must go back to the first century to understand lots of what has been lost and misunderstood in scripture. What we see with regards to woman having their heads covered merely meant that woman would have her hair up in a bun or pony tail, etc. Long flowing hair was sexually inviting and meant you were single. Virgins wore their hair down. Woman with shaven hair was usually normative of a woman in mourning or even the punishment of her caught in adultery. Woman with hair up meant they were married (hence they had a physical covering with man and wife under the authority of YHVH). It was conservative even back then. How many times do we see a nerdy looking girl in a movie that takes the glasses off and puts her hair down... only to find her sexually attractive? Same idea.
See my playlist labeled “Beards” for more videos on this. Mainstream Christianity is for the most part disconnected from the 1st century and the Jewish context of scripture and therefore even the Tanak (Old Testament). Shalom

Nature says it's wrong because Paul was referencing Hippocrates, who believed that hair was related to the reproduce organs. Since women received sperm from men, their hair was seen as semen storage. This was based on a crude understanding of the lymphatic system and thinking that lymphatic fluid was semen.

Having long hair is not a sin, To say nothing about how length of hair is subjective.
Having long hair as a man for the purpose of looking like a woman, or embodying feminine characteristics is the sin. Having short hair as a woman for the purpose of promoting masculinity or denying femininity is just as much a sin for a woman.

God designed our world so that everything would exist in perfect harmony. He made humankind in His image, so that we had the capacity to worship Him and walk with Him. Because God created you, He loves you. You exist to glorify Him in a real relationship.Mankind has rebelled against God, choosing to live for ourselves instead of for Him. This rebellion, called sin, has come between us and God. This sin brings about brokenness in our personal lives, our relationships, and also our world. Not only has it separated us from Him and His perfect design, it also brings judgment and death.Because God loves us, He sent His only son Jesus to rescue us from our sins. The Bible says that “God shows his love for us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross as payment for our sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead. His resurrection proves that God has accepted Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins. Believe in Him and the Holy Spirit will come in and lead you to go to Jesus in faith and trust in Him and trust in Him for salvation and repent of your sins and He will hear from Heaven and forgive you of your sins and cleanse you by His precious blood and the Holy Spirit will make you born again and you'll be saved from all sin and from death and from the enemy and from the wrath of God that's against sin. (Romans 5,6,7,8, John 3:16, 1 John 1:9). I'll be praying for you to come to know the true God of all and experience His true love and Holy Spirit and salvation and i pray you'll go to Him and get saved Amen in Jesus name

I appreciate John Pipers teaching overall and really do respect him. I think it’s possible this isn’t correct though. If we compare ourselves to the culture in order to gauge what is right in God’s eyes, we will get it wrong every time. If culture tells me it’s okay for a man to wear makeup, dresses, and heels (which culture is saying this is acceptable) we have to stand firm on God’s word. So if culture says it’s okay for men to have long hair, but the Bible in 1 Corinthians 11 says it’s not natural, we should follow scripture. The Bible does specifically say how long a women’s hair should be or how short a mans hair should be, so we need to seek God’s guidance on this. This whole topic of hair length and headcovering reminds me of Satan when he said “did God really say...” God created men and women for distinct roles, and this is a great thing! If we are honest with the state of our culture, gender roles are completely out the window and it’s very very rare to see a woman submitting to her husband, and a husband loving and leading his wife. Let’s be honest in searching the scriptures ourselves and being willing to follow the Holy Spirit wherever he leads, even if we don’t want to. I didn’t want to cover my head, but it came down to obedience. After obeying, God revealed so much more to me about this regarding biblical manhood and womanhood. If we follow our culture, we can be deceived into many wrong ideas. Let’s honestly follow God. When we justread and obey the Bible it makes more sense than coming up with modern ideas why we don’t have to.
FYI: Christian women have covered their heads for 1900 years, and stopped when the feminist movement began. Surgeon, Tyndale, Calvin, Luther and R.C. Sproul among others taught women headcover and men to uncover their heads in prayer and prophesy. Also, the fact that Paul says women should cover because of the angels should completely throw the cultural argument out the window...because Angels weren’t just in Corinth. They are everywhere both then and now. Lastly, it wasn’t cultural for Corinthian women to cover their heads, and it wasn’t cultural for Jewish men to uncover their heads.

Hello Heather. I appreciate your thoughtful reply and would encourage you to follow your convictions as that is how we are led. However Pastor John isn't saying we should rely upon culture to help us determine what the truth is, he is saying that throughout the world there are thousands of cultures. Each one has their social norms and definitions of what a man is and isn't. For instance, I am from Tennessee, I cannot expect a man from Papua New Guinea to look exactly what I expect to be normal because our cultures are absolutely different. For me to feel the right to determine their cultural norm based off of my ideas would make me a Pharisee of the highest degree. What is to say that I shouldn't conform to their definition of normal? Just as you believe in having to cover your glory (hair), I do not believe that and I believe it is adding chains to the liberty by which we were set free, but I'm not going to try to convince you to change because it doesn't necessarily advance the Kingdom of God, but instead it would cause division within the body. Lord bless!

He’s been up to amazing things and I’m so glad I obeyed the scriptures. May God bless you.

@@soldieroftruth77 This is more along my line of thinking. It doesn't make sense to me that we have to add to something in order for it to be made right. Always more restrictions, never able to simply trust in the liberty of the Spirit.

Did you listen to the episode? This was very clearly covered - the short version is that Piper is arguing that the key is what would be considered dressing or styling yourself using gender-associated dress or hairstyle IN YOUR CULTURE. So if in your culture a shorter hairstyle is perfectly appropriate and associated with women, then I don't think he'd have a problem with it. For example, he said if he wore a dress in Minnesota that would be inappropriate as a man, but wearing a kilt in Scotland would be perfectly fine as in that culture that style of dress is associated with maleness.

My response I am preparing for Godly Men Have Short Hair-ism had priorly been less thought out on the basis of what Paul was actually meaning to discuss with Corinthians 11:14, and the entire passage for that matter. How scholarly to actually bring another part of scripture by the same author as well to further delve into what he was trying to get across, and this approach makes a lot sense when you put into context the fact that the church of Corinth had some real problems with sexual sin. This also ought to put into further context today as far as judging someone's character rather than simply the length of their hair.

I would love to hear this argument from an ethnographic view point. I read in the comments folks are arguing which length is just for a male (which seems a little absurd). I think it’s a little vague to just say if your culture says x hair style is feminine, don’t do it. What if that individual moves to another culture?
All that to say, I do not think it is sinful or righteous to wear your hair a certain way. You have the choice. Your soul is measured by belief Christ is Lord, he raised from the dead, and he has forgiven all your sins. Not from the length of your hair.

You misunderstood his explanation but dont blame John either. I will explain the jist of what he said. Whatever attributes our culture relates to femininity, womanhood, is what Paul says that we as God-created males are naturally opposed to. Meaning this: If in your culture females are known to have short hair, and you wear short hair, Paul then would say that this is shameful. it's not about being mistaken as a woman but really about honoring God-given gender roles over whatever the world might be doing that is against God. That's my takeaway from it, i hope that helps you understand it. Im a male with long hair as well and in modern American culture it's hard to tell if long hair is even really naturally a feminine trait anymore, lol. Also it's worth noting that Paul forms this belief based off of scripture, not his own opinions

No. God always had exceptions in the Bible. Jael assassinated an enemy king by nailing a peg through his head while he was sleeping, Debra was used to encourage Barak to fight (even though she was no military leader), your example of Samson having long hair (really symbolized his 'faith'), Rahab, Ruth, Namaan the Leper, King Nebuchadnezzer (all being saved and were Gentiles). God always provided exceptions, BUT THEY ARE NOT THE RULE. Jesus had short hair like a man. Because Satan wanted to deceive the nations, he had painters paint him 'taboo' looking, with long hair to differentiate him from the rest. Jesus was masculine and had short hair. If he had long hair and you looked at his backside while entering a the market place, you'd think its a woman. And God doesn't deceive anyone. Only Satan does.

"long hair" is just the boundary line during Paul's time.
The point is that a male should not self-decorate and behave as a female, and vice versa. Especially when congregating as a body of believers before God. Not gonna debate about sharp dichotomies and spectra and whatnot, everyone in his or her heart knows if he or she truly wants to be obedient to God, and this includes accepting exegesis about scripture on the simplest of matters that Paul wrote about.
If this verse is a stumbling block to you, then all the more you need to confess to Jesus that you need His grace and help.

Throughout the world both ancient and modern hair has been connected to spirituality.
The Russian orthodox grow long hair and beards in a country where it is frowned upon way more than the U.S. Hindu yogis and Sikhs grow long hair and beards, Native Americans did and the ones more connected to their ancestry still do and in different parts of the old testament when some Israelites had failed they were told to cut their hair and their beards. With the nazarite vow you couldnt cut your hair and samson a nazarite his (intuitive) strength was in his hair and was made a slave when cut, the modern Jews with their side locks and long beards is a modern remnant of these things.
When Ganghis khan invaded ancient China he made the Chinese cut their hair to make them more docile.
The samurai had their long hair kept up in a top knot and many ancient Chinese emporers had long hair.
The Scots and Vikings had long hair and were not known as spiritual but very rebellious and were more manly then most buzz cuts today and they wore skirts I mean kilts.
Short hair makes you less independent and more controllable and is a main reason for it in the military besides practical reasons. A spiritual example would be Buddhist monks with shaven heads who seek the absence of self and are very uniform in their attire and actions like a spiritual military.
Men who dress like women and happen grow their hair long as well to finish the look is against 'nature' in general and that of the natural man.
I also believe long hair is a big reason why women tend to be more spiritual and have more intuition then men in a lot of ways is because they tend to be the one with long hair.
A more likely conspiracy then that of all long hair Jesus pictures being false would be that king James a questionable man personally and a king/government putting out an official government issue bible left it confusing for a reason.
And who made scissors, and who made hair?

Jesus did not have long hair as apostle Paul said in. A.Corinthians 11:14-15
14 Does not even nature itself teach you, that if a man have long hair, it is an insult to him? 15 But if a woman have long hair, it is to her glory. for his hair is given to him for a covering:
Why do we grow old and die?
GOD did not want humans to die. Our first parents, Adam and Eve, were created with a perfect mind and body. They could still be alive today. This is clear from what God said to Adam about a tree growing in the garden of Eden.
God said to Adam: “The day you eat [from the tree] you will surely die.” - Genesis 2:17. This command would have been meaningless if Adam had been created to grow old and die. Adam knew that if he did not eat from that tree, he would not die.
GOD'S PURPOSE WAS NOT THAT PEOPLE DIE.
God said to Adam: "Eat your bread with the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground from where you were taken. for you were dust and you will become dust. ”- Genesis 3: 17-19. As a result, “all the days of Adam's life were nine hundred and thirty years and he died.” - Genesis 5: 5. Adam did not go to heaven or hell. Or live in a spiritual realm.
    What is the Resurrection?
    The Bible's answer
In the Bible, the Greek word translated "resurrection" means "to stand" or "to restore." The resurrected person is resurrected from the dead and is the same person who was before. - 1 Corinthians 15:12, 13.
It is true that the word "resurrection" is not found in the Hebrew Scriptures, which are known as the Old Testament, but the promise of resurrection is there. For example, through the prophet Hosea, God promised: “I will rescue them from the hand of the grave, and I will rescue them from death.” - Hosea 13:14; Job 14: 13-15; Isaiah 26:19; Daniel 12: 2, 13.
Where will people be resurrected? Some people will be resurrected to live in heaven. There they will reign with Jesus Christ. - 2 Corinthians 5: 1; Revelation 5: 9, 10. The Bible calls this resurrection "the first resurrection" and the word "first" makes it clear that there will be another resurrection. - Revelation 20: 6. That other resurrection will be for the living on earth, and most of the dead will be resurrected in this way. - Psalm 37:29.
How are the dead raised? God gave Jesus the power to resurrect the dead. - John 11:25. Jesus will bring to life “all those in the memorial tombs,” each with his own personality, attributes, and memories. - John 5:28, 29. Some will be resurrected to live in heaven, while others will be resurrected to live on earth with perfect and healthy bodies. - Isaiah 33:24; 35: 5, 6. 1 Corinthians 15: 42-44, 50
They multiply priests and saints with sad faces pile up, perform miracles, cast out demons. But Jesus said, The tree is known by its fruit.
    THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW
    7: 21-23:
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and did many miracles in your name?' 23 Then i will tell them plainly that I did not know you at all. Get away from me, you workers of iniquity.
    Matthew 7: 15-20
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 By their fruits ye shall know them. Do they gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles? 17 So every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; and an evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Ye shall know them by their fruits.
    B. LETTER TO CORINTHIANS (Paul)
    11: 13-15:
13 For such are the apostles, liars, deceitful workers, impersonating the apostles of Christ. 14 And it is not surprising. because Satan also takes the form of a bright angel. 15 Wherefore, it is not a great thing that his ministers should be likened unto the ministers of righteousness. Their end will be in proportion to their deeds.
4: 4. In whom is the god of this world?
(Satan) blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the light of the glory of the gospel of Christ might not shine upon them, which is the image of God.
Eternal life is a free gift from God. The eternal punishment is not righteousness because how many years can a person live at most? Here, eternal punishment means eternal death. God is Love!
    Bible answers
    Ecclesiastes 3:19,20
19 for there is an outcome for humans and an outcome for animals, they all have the same outcome. As the one dies, so the other dies, and they all have but one life. So man has no superiority over animals, for everything is futile. 20 All are going to the same place. They all come from the dust, and they all are returning to the dust.
    John 3:13
13 Moreover, no man has ascended into heaven, but the one who descended from heaven, the Son of man.
    John 5:28,29
28 Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.
    Psalm 37:29
29 The righteous will possess the earth, And they will live forever on it!
    it's clear
    A. LETTER TO TIMOTHY 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men,the man Christ Jesus!
    Mattew 24:36
36 “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.
    Mattew 23:8-10
8 But be not ye called teachers. for one is your Teacher, even Christ. 9 You are all brothers. And call no man father (Spiritual all leader etc.)upon the earth. for one is Father, which is in heaven.10 And be not ye called masters. for one is your Master, even Christ...

It’s not a sin… I think John has the wrong interpretation.
Men have had long hair for thousands of years. Some cultures (like some Middle Eastern cultures) find long hair to be a sign of maturity, strength, courage, etc..
Look at Samson. He must of had long long long hair. Think about the prophets of Israel. I like to think that they had long because they were old wise men. I assume John the Baptist, some of the disciples and maybe even Jesus himself had long hair because they were constantly on the move.
They said something about long hair isn’t natural… I’m sorry what!? Should we look at different cultures for the past thousands of years. The men all grew long hair…

It’s weird. I don’t believe in Jesus, or that interpretation of god. In my culture, which is basically Native American culture. We always have had great hair genes, my hair would grow around 5 inches in 3 months. A lot of us are like this, we don’t go bald or our hair rarely falls out. I think it was natural for us to just grow it out. But catholic people saw it was a heresy to the lord Jesus Christ. When my grandpa went to residential school they cut his hair off. Now, though my grandpa was pissed off every time I would cut mine, he told me our hair is our identity our strength, our power. And our oppressors hated that about us, so they cut out hair to take that identity away.
Honestly. I think long hair is superior. It’s beautiful and it shows. But I’ve been growing my hair too 😅

I really believe Jesus Cares more about your heart.. than your HairDo. this seems extremely petty to me. What did Jesus call it? "Straining at gnats..and swallowing camels." if you are really? Going to think yourself better and more righteous than someone with long hair? You have serious problem. and I can not imagine why anyone would think they needed this clowns opinion?!

The Bible doesn't say Jesus had long hair, as a matter of fact, he probably didn't. The reason we have depictions of Him with long hair today are because of the confusion between the words Nazarene and Nazarite. The Bible says that men should not cover their head, or they disgrace their head, and earlier in the chapter it says that the head of every man is Christ. If a man has long hair, it dishonors Jesus. Bottom line. That's what the Bible says.

How does this argument address the Nazarite issues. Samson had long hair. Was this dishonoring? Also, there were others who would take a Nazarite vow: not cutting their hair. Also, in your opinion, how long is long?

Why would Paul even bother to bring up women's hair and men's hair if it were not something he was seeing in the body of Christ?
I think you are misunderstanding that quote. God's commands should definitely be taken seriously. And I could be wrong, but I do not think Paul said he speaks for himself on the issue of the hair. God looks at the heart and what your intent is. Are you trying to wear and carry yourself in way similar to men or not. No one is taking out a ruler and making sure your hair is over so many inches as a woman or no more than so many inches as a man.
But we do live in and age were men wear earrings, even in the church or preaching from the pulpit. Men carry purses and wear high heels. And would God not find this offensive also, or is this one of those gnats we are straining at? What about women in men's white tea shirts, fully decked out in men's clothes including sagging jeans showing their underwear? Not that men should wear sagging pants either. But we do live in and age were men present themselves as women and women present themselves as men. And so how in the world is this discussion not relevant to Christians today?

Do you not remember in the bible who God would no longer accept the sacrifices of the Jews?
He told them all those are .his anyways and he has no need of them. What he wanted was their obedience to his commandments.
Do you think you can feed a few poor people and then be free to make up your own rule book? If what you are doing matches up with what the world would like that is a strong indication it might be against what God wants. History has shown the world tends to hate the ways of God.
Do you think it impossible for those poor people you are trying to feed and clothe God could not do so himself? As he blessed you could he not make you poor and bless them with what you now have? And it would be they who would then be feeding and clothing you? Realize all we have is God's already and we should take no pride in the fact we are sharing what is not even ours from the outset. We feed and clothe the poor because God commands it, and we obey for the same reason.

Paul's epistles are difficult; and clearly people use them to tempt others to riches of this lifetime.
