- Hey everyone! In this vlog, I look back on the year since I had double incision top surgery with Dr. Nicholas Kim at the University of Minnesota in July of 2019. I also show what my chest looks like now! Follow me on Instagram @__themensroom__ for more frequent updates.
FAQ: I'm non-binary and transgender, I use they/them pronouns, and I was not on HRT at the time of this video.
As a cis woman who chose to 'go flat' post double mastectomy i owe so much of my postive outlook to the the trans (ftm) and non-binary community. Thank you for sharing your journey so I had a postive post-op process to heal along side... almost all female centred content has a lot of reconstruction talk or depression over the loss of feminity with going flat.
I'm 5 days out from my surgery and they did not give me the 'good' pain meds
I'm glad this was helpful! Good luck with the rest of your recovery!!
Did you pay out of pocket and can you share how much it was? Did it take you a long time to save for it? Thanks
@@t.terrell7037 I have a brca1 genetic mutation - which gives a huge boost to the likelihood of ‘female’ cancers overall. As part of a prevention plan my mastectomy and hysterectomy are covered by the NHS. - sorry that doesn’t really help.
I am non binary/trans masculine and I really need top surgery but don’t want to go on testosterone. I have been having some doubts/feelings of invalidation around my identity, but videos like yours have been helping a lot.Your results are amazing.
Thank you! I'm so glad this is helpful. I definitely have had times of feeling invalid in my identity as well. The good news is, as I'm sure you know, you don't need HRT to get top surgery! Do whatever feels right to you and screw what other people think.
I th I ughti was the only one thinking this exact thought
I know one trans man who don’t wanna have testosterone he’s German and his name is Luca Finn check him out he’s cool
You're voice is amazing. So calming and hella androgynous.
did you do voice therapy?
AHHH!! Over this quarantine I've come out to myself as non-binary but I know I have wanted top surgery for years. The other night I watched your original video and as I was binge watching some more top surgery videos today this one came up.
Your results look so great and it's amazing to see how happy you are.
It makes me excited too see that what I want is possible too 😊🙆♀️🥳
Yay! Happy coming out to yourself!! Best of luck on your journey.

@@thequeernerd6733so how were you able to get it covered if it wasn’t trans top surgery? Aren’t you required to do therapy and be on T?
I've been wanting top surgery for years now but I have an unsupportive family so I have to wait till I'm an adult. Your videos help me learn more about myself and I need to say, you look great!
I'm really sorry to hear that. You will get it someday! Until then, stay strong and find joy where you can. Thank you
how are you doing nowww- if ur an adult yet have you been able to do anything about ur dysphoria
I'm one of those curious people. And I have to say it's so wonderful to see someone so happy. The more happy people in the world, the more happiness for us all.
I really appreciate you making this video, I saved a picture of your chest to show the doctor when my time comes. Thank you for sharing all this information w us!
Yay, I'm so glad it helps! Good luck with your journey!
Wow! I've been binge-watching top surgery and yours is by far the best result. Pretty impressed. Thank you for taking the time to explain things and giving information on how to recover. It is great seeing how your mom and family support you and also you glow with happiness.
heyy Im nonbinary and been thinking about a top surgery, Im really comfortable with my body but my chest is the only thing that gets me disphoria and this video helped me alot ! Everything you said really sounds like me and my family is also pretty supportive I would say. The only thing is Im 15. I already saw some good surgeons I just dont know if the fact that im still.. well a minor will sit right with everyone
hey! I'm a trans dude in MN, looking into Dr. Kim for my surgery, and this and your first surgery video was really helpful :-) thanks for your documentation!
I got my letter for top surgery today! Super excited. Thanks for making this video!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm questioning basically everything about my identity at the moment and all the info in this is so helpful. It can't be easy putting it all out there but I'm so grateful you have!
Dude...... your chest came out so sick! So happy for you! Healed really nice! I am in process of my letters so surgery will be covered. If not I have been saving. I have my consult in 2 weeks! sucks being obsessed with something cuz time goes by so slow. Hope life is treating you well. Politics must be really interesting for you at the present time. All I can do is smh at a lot of the current situation. Bring Aaron back, you 2 are hilarious!!! r best life😊❤️
Thank you! Good luck with your process! I told Aaron about your comment and he was happy :) maybe I'll have him back on soon but the pandemic and our work schedules are making that difficult.
The Queer Nerd yeah these times are crazy! Yay to Aaron being a guest on your channel haha!
I'm nonbinary, not on T, and hopefully getting top surgery in january, and I just wanted to say that this video and your initial surgery vlog were super informative and also encouraging, so thank you for making them! also, your results look great! how long after surgery was it before you were able to start working out? I've heard some pretty varying numbers on that front (on month? several months?) so I'm curious as to what your experience was.
Hey Maia! Yay! I don't remember specifically but I don't think I started working out my chest for at least three months after surgery. I started biking regularly 1-2 months out. It just depends how you feel I think, because I went super easy on myself and tried not to push it.
Your results are so freaking good!! Holy crap it looks fantastic!
Thank you!
oh my god i randomly clicked on this video. i live in mn and have been looking for a surgeon but havent be able to see results. i feel blessed to see this video it will help me so much
So glad to have helped! I was in your exact position a couple years ago.
I had to watch this agin because your info is so good! I am putting in my phone “questions day of surgery”..... the surgeon I am seeing is out of NH but he does the surgery in Maine! Funny just because you vacation there sometimes🙃😎
Awesome, I love Maine :)
Yes! Please do a video about scar care!!
Can't find your IG.. but nice video!

I would love a scar care video!
Cool cool! I can get to work on it :)
Bruv, your smile is making me smile😆😆
Yes please to the scar care video if you’re still down to do it!
thank you for sharing your experience
Damn your results are perfect
Your results are really good.
Your results are so amazing!! How much did it cost?
Thank you! About $3000 with insurance.
Hi I just found you're channel and as a fellow Non Binary person I have 2 questions, how much did the surgery cost you? And how would be the best way to tell people like parents thet you are non binary?
My comment got screwed up at the end. It was supposed to say Continue living your best life!
Did you do some voice training? Your voice sounds really deep!
Not formally, but I definitely have some control over my voice that I've developed over the years.
That's awesome!!! Also cool to see a fellow non binary person from MN!😊
I would like to get top surgery without going on T but sadly Italy does not recognize non binary people :( do u (or anyone else in the comments!) have any advice on where in europe it would be best for NB people to transition safely?
I don't have any information- anyone else have ideas? Good luck
It in Europe but Thailand is amazing I’ve heard.
Great video. I'm a new subscriber watching from London UK.
Any advice for someone who is struggling to decide on top surgery? (Any pronouns ok) I'm non binary and still like my femme side but hate my chest, I don't want lower surgery cuz I want kids I'm so torn what to do
I can’t wait till one day I get top surgery. For now I’d probably use bandages and just rap them around until I get a binder since I’m not out to my mom yet
hey dude, fyi it can be super damaging to your ribs and chest tissue to bind with bandages, so if you're unable to get a proper binder right now, I'd suggest trying to find some good tight sports bras instead. I hope that you can be safely out soon!
Hey, I agree with Maia - sports bras are way safer even though they suck sometimes. Bandages are pretty dangerous and also way less comfortable. Someday you will be able to get the care you need! Until then, stay strong and good luck.
How did you talk to family about this? Did you get approval/blessing from parents? Not that we need it, or that it would be a deciding factor necessarily, but it would be nice to have parents and family on board and I'm wondering how other folx approach those conversations. I would imagine even supportive cis family might have concerns/hang ups. Wondering how best to communicate the need and quell some of the concern.
My family has been very supportive! At the very beginning, they didn't know anything about non-binary people so it took a lot of educating. But I was very lucky that they were always open to learn and loved me along the way. The whole process of me coming out, changing my name, having top surgery, and eventually taking testosterone unfolded over 5+ years and we had many conversations along the way about what I needed and why. Now my parents in particular have become great allies, even talking to people at their workplaces about trans inclusion. So my biggest piece of advice would be to be patient with family, though it can be really hard sometimes!
Sorry, I just heard you already know about the patches. Careful of sunburn!
Looks beautiful
Loves to you!
This is late, but congratulations!
Guess I can't be Adriyen anymore, it's okay that. I'm still struggling to find my name and being called Adriyen feels not right.
waiiiiiiit you're not on T in this video?!
Nope! Zero T
Pls listen to chloe cole.
I really don’t know if I should have top surgery or just stay on baggy clothes and an uncomfortable sports bra. Life is great 🤣✨😎🎉✨💥😹✋
Update: I still dont know but I‘m trying to focus on other good things in my life but I‘m still frustrated about this
