i love how some guy in the beginning asks "what are you shooting the video for?" he had no idea a hundred thousand people are gonna watch this footage in the next 30 years.
i am not in the demographic, but listening to truly pained music like Molina (also discovered late) goes well with Greg Cartwright and Reigning Sound who emerged from my beloved garage punk scene and bypassed the hipsters that drove poor fellas like this insane. if youre hitting your lifes nadir, i recommend Reigning Sound (start at the beginning) and the recent Cheater Slicks albums. i feel this guys fans helped push him over the edge. And drove Molina to drink himself away, because those guys, along with Cartwright, are real deal contemporary anti-hipsters. but pressure....they were under a lot

I’ve become the type of listener who just wishes artists would play their songs as they are ordered on the cd or lp. You put them in that order for a specific reason, didn’t you?
Can I just confess my favorite part of every neutral milk hotel live recording is the like 10 minutes of banter we get at the beginning? Its so rare we get good footage of them so seeing them in their prime doing their thing is just so nice.
Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone always gets me, especially that little trumpet break in the middle. What a beautiful song. Also, Jeremy is just beating the fuck out of those drums!
I’m glad I get to reaffirm how great this band was. I saw a lot of this in the 90’s and glad to count all these people as my friends. What a magical time….
I used to have this exact live performance burned onto a CD (which was shaped with grooves to resemble an old vinyl LP) and listened to it in the car all the time. I was desperate for new NMH content and would scour the internet for them. This one is probably one of their best sets ever.
That! That is the most passionate, powerful performance of Two-Headed Boy I’ve ever seen. Jeff really knows how to phrase guitar harmonic form and write a compelling melody.
I just discovered them like 6 months ago too and it makes me mad because I was 20 when ITAOTS came out. Why didn't I know about them in 1998? That's so irritating.
There is apparently something coming from NMH in 2023. Most likely release of some old demos or something low-key like that, but we hold out hope for a tour…
its cool hearing the dialogue between the guy filming and some other dude at the start. wonder if he would of thought that thousands of people would watch his recordings haha
mine too! i heard this before the box set came out too and when i saw there was a bonus disc that had that song on it? i flipped my lid! i was so happy!
Two Headed Boy has been my favorite song for nearly two decades now. I just watched this video for the first time, and balled my eyes out during that encore w/ scott. Jeff truly harnesses something in his voice and music. If you're watching this, you understand.
Was lucky to be able to see Jeff play his solo tour and at the best venue, ACL Live in Austin in 2012. Got even luckier to see NMH at the same venue in 2013. Both front row. I still can't beleive it. Both my biddy and I agreed that the vocals were even better than the album. PLEASE COME BACK JEFF and NMH!!
he seems to either have a closet full he's wearing it in 2014 shows, other shows on this tour....in other states. so, what Motel do you think they stay at on tour?
1:24:36 That guy that requests Bucket... For reference, that song was only ever on demo tapes and the one compilation cd ("Periscope (Another Yoyo Compilation)" from 1994) that the hifi version comes from, hence Jeff's surprise at it being requested.
