There is only one reason the Habs would not entertain this: Marner's salary / future contract.
Best thing that can happen to Marner play outside his hometown market.
Those saying Marner sucks or he's too small really need a reality check.
Hughes said it multiple times he would not sacrifice the future to bring somebody in. Toronto would ask for a critical component of what he does not want to sacrifice in return. I also do not see him signing under the Hughes administration salary structure. And finally Montreal knows Marner very well and are not sold on his playoff involvement

If it happens, the Habs will get to the playoffs finally and the Leafs will likely be out of the playoffs. That would be funny. But he is not going to be traded.
No chance. Only way Mtl would entertain this would be if Toronto retained a signification portion of his salary, and Marner agrees to a lower number on his next contract or he walks as a UFA, but that is not Kent’s style. Since neither of those things will happen, neither will this trade. Nice way to collect views though. 🙄

Zero chance on this. Leafs are looking to offload Marner. It is very much buyer beware with this guy. The attitude is suspect and his interfering father is a lunatic. He will be on the Leafs this season and a project for Berube. Marner seems to be aware he needs to redeem himself and rehabilitate that attitude to either 1) be offered an extension in Toronto or 2) get a huge offer as a UFA. I don't think he gets a Leaf extension no matter what he does this season. I think this ends in a divorce and he walks as a UFA.

I've thought for a long time that Montreal might be the hardest Canadian market to play in. The passion, the history of Stanley Cup wins, bilingual market and media, the legacy of so many great players...it can be a shark frenzy or a banquet. I was at Skydome about 10 years ago to watch the Alouettes play my Argos. About 200-300 Alouettes fans made the trip to Toronto to cheer on their team. They had one particular section filled near the corner of the end zone. I was so impressed with how loudly and strongly they cheered on their team for the whole game! I think Montreal can be a tough market to play in...but... from a business pov as a team that is quickly progressing towards being more competitive, Mitch Marner could add a lot to the Canadiens Offence. And i like some of the pieces my Leafs could possibly get in return from the Habs...A 1st Rd pick, a top prospect and a player(some good options to choose from imo)...maybe contingent on a minimum of a 1-3 year extension sign and trade, if MM agreed. I believe it's an unlikely happening. MM would have to agree to it. And i strongly believe Kent Hughes has his ship headed in the right direction at the right speed and will not make an rash moves, but would be interested naturally in hastening Montréals progress if he considers a trade to be a solid building block for his team. Playing at the Bell Centre for an Original Six team with such rabid fans and a great history of winning(more in the past i guess but still...)...that's exciting from my perspective! A trade could work for both teams(which is the best situation to desire)...but...i think unlikely, especially since it's within the division. Fun to think about tho

The one factor the Leafs have in their favor is Marner's greed in that to obtain the maximum amount of dollars he needs the 8 year offer, not a 7 year.
