    The thing is, even if Laine doesn't work out in Montreal, they basically got a 2nd round pick for Harris, which is probably is more than his trade value. In 2 years they either resign him, trade him or let him walk. And that cap space? it's not like Montreal desperately need it for the next two years.

    • @snoodge27
      @snoodge27 23 дня назад +1

      They gave a second round pick only because Montreal takes the full contract. Had the CBJ retained half the salary, Laine would have been the only player in the trade for Harris

    Great trade for habs. Big winger, can score, Fit for 2yrs, get a pick, trade an extra D, they have the cash, if it doesn’t work you got that pick, and have 5 less big contracts in 2yrs so you can sign someone else, or if it works, keep him

    Big win for both sides:
    Columbus gets Laine off the books with retaining anything, saving them 7.3 million in cap space when you add the Harris contract, Look for them to be trade brokers this deadline
    Montreal gets a great goal scorer, that if he returns to form will end up being a steal, especially if resigns. And if he doesn't, he is only on the book for 2 years.
    No losers in this trades, given Laine wanted out.

      ya i thought we were going to have to give up 2 prospects and a draft pick to get him, guess that's why Hughes didnt just jump on the offer rirght away, let them stew with it, and wonder what they're going to do, there is no guarantee he starts the year if he is still in Columbus, both teams did well, but Habs a little better, (well time will tell, im assuming the Habs did better!), they should. And if it doesnt work out, they are stuck with him for 2 years, by then we will be rid of the Gallagher contract, Price contract, Armia, a bunch of other bad contracts, plus we got the 2nd round pick, i like it. I hope MSL can work his magic with laine, and playing in a bigger market might get the best out of him!! let's hope!

    I hope that the Habs have not sold their soul for an unknown quantity. Hope that Patrik is not emotionally torn apart by the fickle fans in Montreal. Let us hope that Mr. Laine does not re-injure himself this year or next. He has to prove himself and he has to be good in the dressing room.

      At worst they gave up Harris, who isn't a top 4 atm, for a 2nd round pick, which is hardly selling their soul. The Habs are in the late stage of a rebuild, have a glut of young talent at D, and 2 years of a bad contract isn't that big of a deal, Molson can afford it.

    "is that point per game guy" Laine only had 1 point per game season in his whole career. 56 points in 56 games is not an 82 game season.
    "he gets 30 goals and 40 to 45 assists on the year" Laine has NEVER had 40 assists let alone 45 assists. Laine's top assists seasons 35, 30 and 30. "30 goals" He's only hit 30 goals 3 times. 44, 36, and 30.
    STILL A WIN FOR LAINE but get a grip LEGO.
