Honestly, Kent Hughes is arguably already the best (smartest) GM in the league

See where they end up in the standings. But you have to think GM of the year for this year with the summer he has had

Kent Hughes pulled off a masterpiece this off season. Between the draft and signing Patrick Laine it is a masterpiece. MSL is the perfect coach too help rekindle Laine's career. I honestly give Huges off season an A+. There really isn't much more to do. Yes can maybe shore up the goaltending but with Jacob Fowler coming up soon I think we can go a season with Monty and Primeau.

If they stay healthy and Anderson has a bounce back year as well Armia plays like he did the 2nd half of the year they will be a strong team but they need to tighten up the defensive zone play

Hugues creates win/win situations for other gms. Hugues calculate his odds of success and GMs appreciate trading with him.
Bergevin did good trades, but they were more fishing and moving assets than what Hugues is doing.

I don't think it would happen but we can imagine ;) Let's say if the habs made the playoff this year and the Leafs don't !
The hugeness of the pile of beep beep that will fell upon the Maple Leafs Sports Entertainment organisation in Toronto.

It's more likely that the Habs squeak in and somehow win a playoff round and the Leafs collapse in the first against another team. Habs could finish as the 2nd wildcard at best but the Leafs surely won't finish 1st in the conference despite making the playoffs. If that's the case, depending how the Predators perform and other teams do in-season/after trade deadline, it's conceivable that Hughes gets nominated for the Jack Adams trophy but I still don't think he'll win it. Coming from an optimistic yet realistic Habs fan. I can see Hughes packaging Habs picks to improve 1st round draft position next summer. Future looking bright, this is another positive (and low risk) step forward.

Even if Montreal falls low in the standings, we have a ridiculous amount of picks next draft. So I wouldn't mind a final bottom feeding season.
