Dude!! I can't thank you enough. I've wanted to learn this song for years but it's not very tab-friendly. I've just had the most enjoyable evening learning this. My fingers hurt but I'm so chuffed. A great little lockdown project. Thank you. :)
I have just started playing guitar after 5 years and learning finger-picking properly this time. I didn't think i'd ever be able to play a song like this but due to the way you break things down and explain every note at the perfect pace I have learned part 1 tonight. Albeit very slowly but that'll improve as i improve. Part 2 and onwards tomorrow. Thank you!
Thanks, Kevin. That is wonderful to hear. Don`t worry about it being slow, it`s infinitely better to be accurate and slow than rushed with wrong notes or forgetting the piece. Speed will naturally come, so well done for doing so well in just one night! Dan
great lesson always wanted to learn this song, picked up my guitar again while in lockdown and really starting to enjoy playing again, this is me favourite lesson so far. Simon and Garfunkel tunes are always a worthwhile challenge, they sound so great when you eventually nail them. thanks again
Thank you, your style of teaching this song was extremely easy and your way of breaking down the different parts was very helpful. I picked up the song pretty quick, under a half an hour. I think that was more your teaching style than my ability. Thank you again. A beautiful song.
Dude! I scour youtube to find tutorials of my favorite songs. I'm an oldster who can't play well, but loves to play the guitar. Thank you very much for this excellent lesson. I'm excited to learn this beautiful tune. It's in my skill range, and is such a first-rate song. And, absolutely, Paul Simon is a terrific and inventive guitar player, as well as brilliant lyricist.
Geez. My mum played Simon and Garfunkel (along with other quality records) all through my childhood. When I listen to songs like this I feel closer to her again. She was a very kind and caring woman and I miss her greatly. Sometimes it's quite hard listening to certain songs. You know? But thanks to you I'm going to learn to play this, and ... well. Thank you. Where did you get your love of music from and from whom? Have a good day mate.
Thanks for all the kind and lovely words, everyone. Don`t forget, you can get some great freebies on my site including - the video and tab guide - "Learn the 3 most common fingerpicking patterns... that will allow you to play 1000`s of songs!" Get it here for FREE - guitardomination.net/
This was so immensely helpful. I just picked up the guitar again after 7 years or so and this song has been a mighty persistent earworm. So satisfying to finally scratch that ich! Thank you!!
That`s wonderful to hear, Maylin. It is such a classic and I can see why it has become one of my most popular RUclips tutorials lately. It`s so much fun to play!!
I've always wanted to play this song and thought it was too difficult. Listening to your video I learnt it in two sittings - so clear and simple. Of course I'm still working on the pace 😊 but thank you so much.
Thank you very much for an excellent tutorial. You did a great job making this song accessible for so many guitar players around the world. Keep it up, you are making a lot of fellow guitarists very happy!
Brilliant, thank you. The number of 'lessons' where they don't tell you the picking pattern properly is amazing. Names of the strings in order of play, perfect thanks
yo man this is a goated tutorial. Been wanting to play this song for a while but I could never find a good tab or video. thanks for tha quality content
I don't why (perhaps the way I learn) but this is by far the best guitar tutorial i've watched for any song. Cheers (and thanks for referencing the strings by their note not their number!)
I'm enjoying learning this, thanks😊 I've recently learned Kathy's song using another channel,so it's kinda difficult to get the picking pattern for this one although it is quite simular to Kathy's song, but I think that's what is making this difficult,if that makes any sense😂 maybe I should have chose a different second garfunkel song😂
Maybe what Daniel Chan told you was correct but I just decided to check this song out today , thinking about playing it myself ... I usually start to play a song not exactly correct just to get the idea , then if motivated will perfect it with the original artist , Paul Simon in this case ... thanks for the help getting started ...
Very good lessons, thanks a lot!!After a week i nearly got it,still have difficulty singing and picking. But,at 10.00 when you explain the verse,d string and g string are picked twice then the am7 pick. Seems you do not show it,but you play it. I looked it many times, please check if i am wrong. Andrea
Thanks for the tutorial, you are one of the best teachers I've found on youtube and will be checking out your other vids! One question, I have seen a few tabs around that suggest a capo on the 1st fret, which method would be more accurate to the original song?
Hi, thanks for the kind words - always lovely to hear. Capo on fret 1 is if you want to play it in the original key along with the recording. Have fun with it! Dan
Thanks, Derek. It`s a subtle difference, a lot of beginners would struggle with that though but if you can play it, great! You have a keen ear for sure! 😀
Hey doesnt paul simon use a capo for this song? It sounds like this is lower in pitch than when he plays it. Im not trying to diminish any of your tutorial because i think you have a great video.
@@krijndenhertog91 Actually on the studio recording the capo is on the first fret, he has played it on the third fret live at times. But orignally capo on the First
Sure thing, great suggestion, and has been requested a few times. It is on the list of songs to do. It will either be in my membership programme or here, maybe both, but will have to film it first before I decide! :)

Best tutorial for this song out there
Your tutorials are fantastic, perfect pacing and clear instructions. You are helping me maintain sanity during shelter in place lol
awesome man! took me two days to get it down and my girlfriend is gonna be thrilled when i play it for her
Is your girlfriend name April, June, August, or September?
You are a brave man :-) I think the song is about a woman leaving her man.
@@JasonGrantProject I'll just sing the months in reverse then 😏
@@shawnlow573 clever way to go about it! your girlfriend's a very lucky person (to have this sung to her)
Lucky. My girlfriend rolled her eyes after I spent a month learning shape of my heart by sting
Great video! I'm on a mission to learn as many fingerpicking songs as I can while we're all quarantined.
great lesson always wanted to learn this song, picked up my guitar again while in lockdown and really starting to enjoy playing again, this is me favourite lesson so far. Simon and Garfunkel tunes are always a worthwhile challenge, they sound so great when you eventually nail them. thanks again
This is one of my favourite songs, sounds hard but actually isn't when you split it into smaller parts. Thank you!
Best guide I've seen on RUclips. I don't usually leave comments but this can't go without some appreciation. Thanks Mr. Guitar Domination

Well that’s the next few days sorted! As others have mentioned always wanted to play this but never found a good lesson. Thank you

Nice tutorial! I don't hear an Fmaj7 in that part but rather an Am/F (10221x) playing the F bass note with your thumb

Hi... Can you do a lesson on Don't think twice by Bob Dylan... Thanks
Sure thing, great suggestion, and has been requested a few times.
It is on the list of songs to do. It will either be in my membership programme or here, maybe both, but will have to film it first before I decide! :)
Thx.
Are you in standard tuning
Yep. :)
Are you from the west midlands?
Yep. Is it the accent? :)
I have the same watch as you
Haha, great watch, but I dropped it the other day. Ooops
Ok... here we go.
I play an Fmaj7 instead of F
of course it HAS to be there. the maj7 chord really makes the song so beautiful. how can it be missed..?
