    This guy has the absolute best deminore for these types of videos. Hes chill hes knowledgeable descriptive and gets technical on a level that everyone can understand and hes not over the top but supplies and demonstrates the perfect amount of energy! I would love to pick this guys brain with questions I have on my build. So many many varieties of parts out there this dude seems to know details about them more then the average person on a huge variety of parts to where I get a bit lost. I've learned so much already from him but it's not enough.

    In the mid 80's I bought a Futaba FP3-PG system. It was their top of the line Tx for surface vehicles. It had a lot of rotary knobs and switches, for it's day. And it had a swivel head so that lefties could use it. It was about as sophisticated as a rock, compared to this 10PX. lol...

    • @sonicstep

      As it was with the 7PX, that is their premium/flagship radio system. They have other models that don't require such deep pockets to purchase.
      Those cheaper models are most likely more desirable to use, due to fewer unnecessary features and associated complications.
      Fewer complications = easier racing = more fun.

    I use Futaba radios for all my models, but I don't get the 10PX. Can 10 channels really be used for a surface vehicle, especially given that most are just on/off switches? It seems that this is just cover to raise the price more. The real tech here is the F4G protocol and the color touchscreen. Otherwise this is just a 4PM (which I have). I really don't like how Futaba segments features like this - for example, telemetry for 3rd-channel applications (like Castle ESCs) is not enabled on the 4PM despite it technically being capable of it.

      Nothing against Futaba and granted their QC is much more consistent than FlySky but when a competitor can offer many of the same features of the 7PXR at a greatly reduced price point… They should be concerned.

    here's a question, can u assign 2 switches to one channel?, at the moment I'm using the PD1 and PD2 on separate channels and mixing them, i lose one channel doing this, PD1 is for 50% of servo movement from center, PD2 uses the other half.
    Channel 5 and 6 are used, but channel 5 is sacrificed. channel 6 gives me that servo functionality, used for a gearbox shifter

    I'm waiting for a version that omits the screen and puts a cell phone dock in its place. It'd be a smart move in my opinion. Offer a higher caliber radio for less and have less supply chain to worry about for producing units. And let's be real, the nicest transmitter display on the market would pale in comparison to even a midrange phone display these days.

      @alimaleki217 2 года назад +2

      @@aegixxer1 That’s why I said “kind of”! Maybe one day but it I’m not sure the market for such a product is big enough for Futaba and others to make the investment. Plus, I can’t imagine too many people are willing to pay $800 for a transmitter that doesn’t have a screen!

    • @aegixxer1
      @aegixxer1 2 года назад

      @@alimaleki217 I know its nothing we'll see anytime soon, or possibly ever, but one of my arguments is that they could actually make the transmitter more affordable by not having to source a screen. Battery life could be improved as well since the phone or tablet would have its own battery to power the screen, taking a pretty significant load off the transmitter battery.

    [Laughs in FlySky]
    No but in all seriousness, my NB4 can run a 12-channel receiver and BUS to even more like the 10PX.
    Futaba make great products but… their name isn’t really holding people. Many longtime Futaba devotees are slowly moving away to cheaper transmitters like the NB4 because they offer many of the same features at a lower price point.
    What doesn’t help matters is how you are insisted to use ONLY Futaba products to get the “full Futaba experience” which to many is too cost prohibitive, especially when building a competition drift chassis.
    Nothing against Futaba but I’m much happier owning the NB4 than I would’ve owning a similarly spec’d 3PV.
    Futaba should look into making a competitor to the NB4 that’s similarly priced with many of the same features. Maybe then perhaps they could recapture the RC market like they had in the past.

    I can't stand the product segmentation and tier stacking that Futaba does with their Radios. Their Fast Response modes are only on their upper end transmitters, and require specific receivers to actually access the functionality, and then require the use of Futaba specific servos to be activated and work. Futaba doesn't make junk, and the stuff works, but that is a lot of hoops, and more specifically, a LOT of money to get a faster response time.
    Meanwhile, SSR works on every Sanwa radio baring their lowest end offering. SXR works on a mid grade radio, that is arguably just as good as their top end radio, and they all use the same receivers. No feature segmentation, no special halo model receivers that cost three times as much, and any SSR/SXR compatible servo works with it. Not JUST Sanwa servos.
    That said, Sanwa just launched their newest protocol, and we will see if that trend continues. But, their first offering in the new protocol is in the upper mid range, not their top tier. And it doesn't cost $800. And, I would argue, it still feels faster than Futabas best offering in terms of response speed.
    I started RC 30 years ago with a Futaba, and when I came back to the hobby a few years ago, it didn't take much aide by side comparison before my first new radio purchase was a Sanwa. And it would seem Futaba wants to continue to make sure I don't buy their products, by doubling down.

      4pm supports TFHSS SR rx (sbs model), so the entry level can do what the top model can do, at least before this new 10px that introduces f4g. The servos for SSR is a technical requirement, need a narrow center pulse to actually work. Any servo with the same center pulse will also work -- it doesn't need to be Futaba. That said, SR mode with an SR servo is almost 800fps (vs Sanwa 384fps) pretty "direct"! But then many racers turn their stuff down so it drives like a traxxas-level latency anyways 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @@malATX Yes, that is a fair point on the 4PM. But that still does look at the bigger picture. That one receiver on that radio that supports that feature. There are a multitude of Sanwa receivers support SSR, multiple that support SXR, and a couple that support SUR. And all of those SSR receivers are compatible with all but their budget tier radios. You arent limited on running a faster servo response mode by virtue of radio and receiver tier to the extreme level that Futaba does.
      As far as the Servos go, i run ProPerformanceRC servos in all my cars, i can run either Futaba SR or Sanwa SSR/SXR, without issue. So thats moot for me. But in general, there are multiple SSR compatible Servos out there, from several manufacturers of varying size and torque specs. As of yet, outside of ProPerformance, i know of no third party Servos advertised as being Futaba SR compatible. And to that end, even ProPerformance doesnt come right out and say it will work.
      Also, i think it is worth pointing out (not that anyone will ever read our comments, ROFL!) that there is a dramatic difference between resolution, and response time. All the resolution in the world wont helps if there is significant signal path delay in getting it there. I also believe there is a difference in the way that Futaba and Sanwa calculate their frequency response. Where Futaba counts each rise and fall of the signal as a frame, where as Sanwa only counts a single full cycle. So if it were apples to apples it would be 800 to 768, or 400 to 384.
      As for response speed, no one turns down the response time, or increase latency as you say. What they do is turn down the transit speed of the servo to calm it down and help remove jitters. So if you happen to lose grip on your wheel, the car doesnt slam back and forth, as the servo tracks the wheel shake on the return spring. The response time of the servo stays as fast. It is just reducing the transit speed. Some people also do this with dual rate, but you end up with some funky ass curves. So if you want more linearity, you reduce the speed. Usually it is a fast outbound speed, with a slower return to center speed. And you tune that parameter based upon the track layout. Like adding more return for a switch back. If you use a Sanwa Servo, and utilize SSL, you can actually do range of motion tuning on the servo itself through the entire sweep range.
      At the end of the day, this is why we have choice to get what we want in terms of feel. And Spektrum is there to remind us of how good we have it. LOL!

      @@bigbuckoramma cycle time definitely matters -- it defines the longest possible delay. If your input is right after a frame, it has to wait until the next frame. This causes a lot of jitter. The higher the frame rate, the lower the max jitter.
      As for latency, both futaba and sanwa have excellent latency. But, humans are great at adapting to latency, but not great at dealing with jitter. You can see this easily in e sports. I'm sure you can't go wrong either way!
      Regarding all that out/return speed stuff, I just use my fingers🤷🏻‍♂️

    too many useless features with too many switches, dials and buttons that many will never used. Also it look outdated already. The screen quality is poor compare to cell phone screen from 10 years ago. at $799 its a waste of money. should at least have a build it camera for pictures and videos.

    futaba is garbage. the hardware is all the same between tiers and models. You pay more for the software that they lock out of lower priced transmitters and unlock for the higher priced ones. the protocol is garbage. opentx and edgetx using lorawan is far superior used in fpv radios for 1/3 price of futabat. look at their aircraft radios. Its very similar the way the pricing is structured. low tier $200, mid tier $400 and top tier around under a grand. There is no way that their top surface radio is $700 when their best aircraft radio is only $1000. how can the surface radio compare in channels, mixes, latency to come that close in price? It can't. They had to make is 7 channels to make you feel like you're getting more when nobody needs more than 3 channels for surface. They have had the same price structure since 1990 milking the sport. Hopefully more companies like flysky and radiomaster will keep chipping away at their market. If Frsky makes a surface radio Futaba changes their price tiers tomorrow guaranteed
