Moving On From Genshin Impact Lore

- It's time to open new doors to more opportunities. Genshin Impact (and the lore community) has been a blast and thank you for supporting me through the years. But I think it's time to finally to expand my horizons and start expanding into more games.
So what changes?
Well, I'll be posting about Genshin Impact less unless it's a topic that I really, really love. Or it's a project that I'm in collaboration with, of course. I'm also going to post more about other games that I'm passionate about or just didn't have the opportunity to since I was scared that it would compromise my channel or something wild like that.
But after careful thinking and also just what I want to do as a creator (and what I think would be for the best for my channel), I'm going to move on from being a Genshin Lore Content Creator and become a Variety Video Essayist. I don't know where that will take me, I don't know what will happen, but I'm excited.
Don't worry about me completely leaving Genshin, I don't intend to do that nuh uh im seeing the AQs til the end. I'm too deep into the main Quest and nothing will stop me.
Just moving on from being a "genshin lore content creator" (100%-ish Genshin), but rather being more of a variety essayist - covering other games or stuff that I find generally interesting story-wise. For July-August, I most likely will post the scripts I have cooking (Like my Wanderer and Dain Video) alongside the new content I want to make (Dissecting the X character and a short video on the Beginner's Guide)
But let's see where the wind leads.
So it turns out there's some validity to Genshin lore theory based on ignoring everything but the AQs and Dainsleif stuff. As if MiHoyo made sure it makes sense, but almost like a different story, but obviously not an entirely different one. At least I get the impression it's valid but it's so hard to try and ignore a bunch of stuff that you "know" such that I'm not sure. I'll just throw that out there. If it is valid then it's bit of a niche. Of course you'd get a bunch of people saying "oh but what about X from blah blah" to which you'd have to remind them that if it's not in an AQ you're not addressing it, as if it didn't exist.

I will never ever fault a content creator for moving on, diversifying, or slowing down. As much i love creating and sharing my interests, content creation is so hard that anyone who chooses to do it will always have my respect. Always follow your passion and others will follow. ❤❤❤

Doing what your passion leads you to is truly one of the good-old fashioned values of content creation. I’ve completely left genshin, play HSR casually, and are looking far more towards areas outside of gaming. People change as time goes on, just keep on going with the flow Aster. Good luck!

I think its a good idea! Diversifying your content is good for your chanel. And I agree that Genshin is a bit overwhelming sometimes, especially the lore. And I love your explanations so cant wait for the other stuff!

Contrary to the handful of toxic comments you are bound to receive, you owe us nothing. You provided content, and we chose to consume it. That’s all it was, there is no further obligation.
Unfortunately, it is likely your views and revenue will take a hit, but if you are okay with that, then absolutely go through with it. I personally can’t guarantee I’ll watch everything you put out, but so long as there’s something that interests me, I imagine I’ll stick around, even without Genshin. Genshin may have brought me to your channel, but it certainly is not why I stayed: I stayed because your ability to research topics in such depth is genuinely amazing (and I was a philosophy major in college). Honestly, your survey analysis videos might be some of your best content to date, particularly because of that ability. On top of that, your personality is just fun to listen to. With that in mind, I look forward to whatever you do next.
PS: I hope you at least play through Clorinde’s Story Quest though. Not for lore, but knowing what I do about you, that quest would be an absolute treat for you. You don’t need to stream or record it if you don’t want to (though I would love to watch your reaction to it) but you absolutely should play it yourself in your own time.

Cant wait for your stanley parable playthrough. Its such an amazing game and such a joy to watch especially from an audience perspective. What intrigues me the most is how every player chooses different things and go about the choices it gives. Am going to miss the theory videos but nontheless exciting what content you'll come out with.

Idk how you do it, but the fact that you managed the time to play Genshin meticulously to immerse yourself in the lore AND THEN make RUclips content out of said lore, all while studying in a university simultaneously, is very inspiring. I can understand your reasoning to tone it down and I look forward to seeing how you transform your content.
I have to be honest with myself that this was probably inevitable though yes as a viewer who first came to your channel mainly for the Genshin content all those years ago, specifically about lore and theories and other things related so in that perspective this news bums me out quite a bit but I understand why this is something that will happen, I won't promise to continue watching your videos as already I have begun to feel the burnout of Genshin especially with the amount of content that to me at least is just coming out constantly and now that summer has ended and I am almost to College myself and with Mihoyo seems to me almost uploading new content that in of it self has become too overwhelming- Whatever path you decide to choose for yourself, ultimately be proud of it and I am sure there will be people who will like it
As long as you're happy with yourself and your work as a content creator, I'm fine! This channel has helped me a lot in a lot of ways and I'll continue to support you anyway, regardless of anything, so don't worry and I can't wait to see what's to come, even if it may take some time~

Genshin lore videos sell insanely well. You might see a decrease in viewership. As a creator, I totally know what happens when you try to upload something else other than your usual bread and butter. My suggestion would be to check out some horror stuff. Analog/digital horror, ARGs, obscure horror games, horror movies, creepypastas, myths and legends, and all things disturbing, they sell like hotcakes. I found a RUclipsr by the name of Flawed Peacock, he talked about a horror game for 7 hours and it was one of the most fun watch ever. Maybe you can try something similar!
I saw your Beginner's Guide video and it made me believe that you can make it outside of the Genshin scene. Excited for your next videos!
Genshin Impact is a good game, but as my mom used to say: "Too much of a good thing is a bad thing". Just go and play other games, you'll have more fun that way. Not only that, but you'll be enjoying GI even more when you return. I would know, that's exactly what happened to me lol

Have you considered outsourcing the writing and / or video editing for your Genshin lore content and just narrating? You have a lovely voice and narration style. You are familiar enough with the lore (to agree or disagree if outsourced lore theory makes sense), could still direct what topics you want covered / supporting major points, while hopefully lightening your workload. Only concern would be that even with outsourcing, the workload could remain higher than what you would like. Regardless, no one should blame you for doing what is best for you. I've been watching your videos pretty much since you started making them, and i feel like you've often said you're going to branch out and then dont. If that's really what you want to do, then go for it!
I myself have been drifting away from genshin. When i first started playing, i was mentally unwell and pretty much stayed in my room playing the game all day. But now i realize the real world is a much more fulfilling place to be. So while i enjoy genshin, i cant help but feel like its unhealthy for me. All the tactics that they use to take advantage of people and make them spend too much of their precious time and money.. its disturbing.
So its a good thing that youre stepping away, theres certainly much better games than genshin.
A game thats caught my attention recently is Hades. Tbh, i havent played it and dont know much about it but looks really cool! It might be your thing with the greek mythology themeing and characters, idk it just looks cool.

It has been amazing to watch your growth! I've been around since the 10k days and I am happy that your bodacious (I've recently learned the meaning of "bodacious" and have been waiting for the perfect place to use it LOL) content has reached a wider audience.
I totally understand you and sympasize with the burnout; Genshin is exhausting and repetitive- I can't imagine spending the amount of time you did sifting through the lore, let alone on top of studies! I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you Aster. For the past 6 months I have been stuck at home due to an illness. I didn't feel well enough to attend school or even leave the house. It felt like the lockdown all over again except I had little to-no interaction; it felt like the world was spinning without me on it. After awhile, my began to feel that it consisted upon the sole, never ending cycle of trying a new medication, moving to a new diet, starting to feel worse, figuring out the hudge changes that much money and time was invested to was all for nothing, trying another medication and so on. It was a very sorrowful period of my life. However, light was broght to my day with everyone of your uploads. It was my daily dose of "human interaction". Your thought provoking theroy videos rinsed away the negative thoughts and replaced it with ones such as AHH DAMN YOU HOYOVERSE WHY WON'T YOU JUST FILL X PLOT HOLE!!! In all seriousness, your soft voice has become a voice of comfort and reassurance, one that guided me through the dark times. Once again, I want to thank you. Thank you for always being there. And thank you to all of those commentors leaving and replying comments that make me laugh. ♥️♥️♥️

branching out is good! I relate to a lot of what you said here about the infinite marathon that is chasing a live service game's updates. a 6 week update cycle is nuts for anyone to keep up on if they have even a remote amount of responsibilities to attend to in real life.

Ahh, it's been a while huh? I don't even remember when I started watching your videos. It was probably the 6th or 7th video you posted. Your lore videos helped me to understand the lore better. At first, I didn't even quite grasp monstadt archon quest, it was your videos that helped me to get more enthusiastic about genshin lore, and now I can't stop talking about it. Yeah sure, people will think that I'm a weirdo but who cares? It's a little sad hearing my no.1 lore creator is moving on from lore videos, I can't get enough of your voice and how well you explain things. But unchanging is boring right? Do whatever you want, a lot of people will be supporting you, and of course that includes me too.
I'm here once again to say: Aster, you should play the Xenoblade games. Now that I said that, I completely support your decisions.
Ooof the title really made me sweat. But knowing that it's actually about branching out and not entirely stopping to cover Genshin reassured me a ton ^^. Even getting one Genshin video every other month, or even just every three to four months is totally fine by me. I'll be excited for it in any case xD Hopefully the new content will also include HSR and ZZZ, but I am looking forward to checking out any other stuff too and maybe find new interesting games to play through it!
Honestly, I know how time consuming Genshin is, as much as I still love it. I'm a student as well, and there's so much new content that I haven't found the time or motivation to play. Keeping up is rather impossible. I cannot fathom the pressure a (Genshin) content creator is under, having to keep up with the lore and pumping out videos regularly to satisfy their viewers...

The title threw me off a bit, was worded as if you're no longer doing Genshin lore *at all*. The initial perception was a shock, since I do watch your videos.
But do, by all means, branch out into other things. There's only so much you can cover about a singular thing before it's like beating a dead horse.
Im glad you're diversifying, but... Didn't you already make this video a year or two ago? You already told your audience that you were diversifying at the end of sumeru, i believe.
I've only watched some of your videos, but I liked and enjoyed all of them. Also, if you're looking for other games to cover, I suggest Reverse: 1999. It's my favourite gacha game, and it has really interesting lore, worldbuilding and characters. It's nowhere near as popular as Genshin, but imo deserves at least as much attention.
This may sound blunt or harsh, but... To me, this sounds like fantastic news. I've been playing Genshin since 1.0 and I had been watching your lore videos since the beginning, up until about a year ago. To frame this correctly, just know that I am on the spectrum (autism); high-functioning, but particularly emotionally sensitive and quick to absorb the emotional states of others. For about the last year, I haven't been able to sit through your lore videos because there has been something akin tiredness, distress, and exasperation coming through, along with a kind of checked-out distance or, how do you say it... kind of like a disassociation from your own content... a little bit forced. And again, I am particularly sensitive so these things may be much more subtle or unconscious than I make them seem in text, or my mind could have been misreading altogether and I could be completely wrong... But for me, i absorb those things and they make me feel sad, distressed, and uncomfortable, because my brain wants everyone to be happy or at least to enjoy what they are doing, and it started to feel like you weren't / didn't anymore in relation to your lore videos. However, I've continued to watch your research / poll / player analysis videos because they have still been filled with that energy and joy and genuine interest that I'm sure drew many more like me to your channel in the first place. I don't know if it's just due to my sensitivity or not, but to me, there has seriously been such a stark contrast between those two types of videos in this regard.
So I guess what I want to say is, I hope you won't feel too overwhelmed with pressure to continue making specific types of content even when your heart isn't in it. I'm sure most of us will just feel happy knowing that you're focusing on your own interests and making the content that you enjoy making, even if it's for games that we don't play. Genshin may have given a lot of creators their start, and a lot of your viewers may have found you because of Genshin, but remember that your returning viewers are here because they enjoy your style, presentation, vibe, energy, and the effort you put into your content, NOT because of the game you cover. All the value lies in your own efforts and work, and that will shine through whatever content you choose to cover.

Just do what you want to do. There is no need to cater to some fans. Not everyone only focuses on one game. I play both Genshin Impact and Wuwa. Sometimes I play LOL with my friends on weekends, but now I play more casual games. I am also looking forward to the release of ZZZ soon. I will also download and try it. Maybe you can create some experience videos of different games.
I find it great for a person, not just a cc, to broaden him/her horizons and observe a game for more than the story. I've always read up on genshin lore and theories but recently I've started looking at game design and dev, so the market side of things explains a lot of decisions many companies make. So it seems to me (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) that you're taking the same route as me, and I sure feel glad that you as an amazing cc I've always recommended to other people may be open to those kinds of discussions!

Hello aster, I am an old fan of your content. I would like to say that I support you for this change, but you must know that with this change you will lose a large portion of your audience and you will have to build it again. I am not trying to frustrate you or scare you, but you must understand this well
but this doesn't mean that this will be entirely negative because the new audience will watch you for your personality, and I believe that you can do it because I believe that you have the qualities of a good content creator
but you must make some changes if you want to succeed, such as trying to use vtuber model, etc.

I'm actually really interested where the direction is going, though I got 2 questions, 1. Given for the fact you have interest in League of Legends are we going to be expecting more of League of Legends lore as apart of the variety you have in store? And 2. Besides covering League of Legends, WuWa, and reverse 1999, are you going to be covering other games that also has lore like for example the Destiny series, Warframe, fortnite and the original save the world mode story, the arc system works games(Blazblue and Guilty Gear), and the God Eater universe(the God Eater games and Code:Vain)?

I'd love lore about more games! Your style is good regardless of the game you cover and while genshin will always have more stuff for you to hit on in the future, it doesn't have to be your only content if you feel like you can research and spend more time with other games also!

Doing more variety with things you like will eventually gather people who like not only genshin but those other things and even interest those who don't know them. We all have times where our interests go to and from and that's normal, God forbid the amount of times I've changed my mind on what I wanna do for the future 😂
It's because that lore has become vast right now, and reading the texts will not necessarily hasten the conclusion of the lore. And since the world Teyvat expands, so do the lore stories, and these lore stories sometimes are not easily accessible, you have to explore and dive for more, and not everyone can do it, so the community has a low chance to understand one another because they cannot always relate to what is being said. For example if I say "Amoria", no one can relate, because they haven't read the texts in Remuria.
I see. If you want to move on. That's your right. If you aren't feeling it. That's fine. It would start to show in the work. And on a personal level. I'm moving on from genshin too. Gatcha games are tiring. And predatory. I just don't like it anymore.

It really takes a lot of time and effort trying to catch up on the lore while having your own stuff going on irl. I'm going to miss listening to your lore discussions and analyses but I'm glad you're doing what makes you feel at ease despite your chanel consisting of many subscribers from genshin instead of making yourself do what burns you out. That's actually a great idea, don't worry we'll be here to support your channel just for the fact that you offerd a lot for the lore community, diversity is always cool when done right so why not trying out.
